25.01.2022 KNEE PAIN. Did You Know knee arthroscopy is rarely indicated for chronic knee pain, osteoarthritis, meniscal tears and other injuries in over 40 year-olds? Trial after trial and best evidence has found knee arthroscopy to be ineffective for osteoarthritis and degenerative meniscal tears, and some surgeons refuse to do it. The Australian Orthopaedic Association advises against arthroscopic debridement and/or lavage for osteoarthritis because the risks outweigh benefits. ht...tps://laserpaintherapy.com.au//further-evidence-against/ and here: https://laserpaintherapy.com.au//knee-surgery-for-osteoar/ LLLT is non-invasive, completely safe and carries no risk, while being highly effective in reducing pain and inflammation, thereby assisting the sufferer to successfully rehabilitate the affected knee. 20.01.2022 Here is our next post in our Did You Know? Series: Shoulder Pain. Did you know that increasing numbers of people develop shoulder tears with advancing age and 50% of people over 70 years of age have rotator cuff tears? They could therefore be considered part of the ageing process. Shoulder problems are amongst the more common conditions we treat. Findings of tendon tears on scans, especially of the supraspinatus tendon, are common in non-symptomatic people and don't necessarily correlate with the pain patients present with. Instead we focus on treating and managing inflammation from injury causing shoulder joint pain and dysfunction and re-setting the immune system’s own healing. More information can be found at https://laserpaintherapy.com.au/rotator-cuff/ or call us on 03 8529 2225.

18.01.2022 STOP ICING YOUR CHRONIC INJURIES! Dr Gabe Mirkin: https://www.drmirkin.com/fitne/why-ice-delays-recovery.html who coined the term RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) in his best-selling Sportsmedicine Book in 1978, concedes it now it appears that both Ice and complete Rest may delay healing, instead of helping. This has been picked up by media outlets this past week. See Putting ice on injuries could be doing more damage than good in The AGE (& SMH) and in the Was...hington Post. Aside from a few minutes of ice to avert bleeding into an acute injury, icing injured tissues beyond the first day impedes the body’s natural healing response. At our clinic we discourage the use of ice, which can be uncomfortable, on injured tendon and ligament tissue which is already devoid of oxygen and blood flow. Low Level Laser/Photobiomodulation therapy improves circulation, delivery of O2 and nutrients and also removal of waste products e.g lactic acid, enhancing the body’s own immune system’s healing. 17.01.2022 CORTISONE INJECTIONS for e.g ACHILLES. Cortisone injections for injured joints, bursitis or osteoarthritis pose a significant RISK of accelerating tissue damage. Cortisone injections are powerful anti-inflammatory drugs sometimes used for short-term pain relief but without the benefit of driving tissue healing. Relief can range from being ineffective, to lasting a few days to a few months, only for the unresolved underlying problem to rear its head again. With single or repet...itive use, cortisone can cause damaged ligaments, tendons, and cartilage to further weaken. With the ACHILLES TENDON, as an example, which needs to flex and retract whenever we walk, any weakening can cause the structure to rupture, sometimes completely. A serious injury that often requires surgery and lengthy rehabilitation. Low Level Laser Therapy is an effective, painless, non-invasive treatment option for non-ruptured Achilles injury. LLLT removes inflammatory obstacles to healing and stimulates the body’s own immune processes to promoting tissue recovery. See: https://laserpaintherapy.com.au/achilles-tendonitis/ and https://laserpaintherapy.com.au/low-level-laser-therapy-tr/ . Dr Parmar chaired and presented the 90-minute long workshop with the brief: User’s Group -Sett...ing up Successful PBM Clinical Practice, with the help of Dr Terry Baker, physician from Baltimore, Maryland, and current president of The North American Association for photobiomoduLation Therapy, NAALT. The topic was: Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT) in the Clinical Setting a Model for Success - a qualitative discussion on real world application of PBMT. This comprehensive workshop was presented to doctors, physios, researchers, instrument manufacturers, and other interested parties wanting to gain practical knowledge on the successful clinical application of PBMT in the real world on real patients. This falls into the realm of TRANSLATIONAL MEDICINE - translating decades of research from labs and clinical trials into a treatment program which results in meaningful clinical outcomes. Laser Pain Therapy Australia is a musculoskeletal clinic providing PBMT as the primary treatment at the centre of a holistic and comprehensive approach to assist recovery from chronic pain with the aim of restoring function and strength. 100 or more patient consultations are conducted every week. Dr Parmar presented her experience of delivering our unique and valuable treatment successfully, in an environment of competing yet failing drug, surgical and manual therapies, to help patients on their road to recovery, well beyond just pain management, to achieve freedom from drugs and poor health and return to meaningful service, leisure and normal life. With her depth of experience of literally thousands of patient encounters, Dr Parmar discussed what the challenges have been and how they have been negotiated. She qualitatively presented a clinical model that has maintained a track record of success and acceptability by patients and health providers alike in delivering positive outcomes that persist. 11.01.2022 KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS AND LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY https://laserpaintherapy.com.au/ Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) reduces knee osteoarthritis (KOA) pain and disability a just published STUDY has found. https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/9/10/e031142. Randomised controlled trials (RCT) are the most reliable prospective studies that measure the effectiveness of an intervention or treatment. The highly respected journal, the BMJ has just published a systematic review and meta-analysi...s of 22 RCT’s involving over 1000 participants with KOA which found pain as well as disability were significantly reduced by LLLT compared with placebo. The authors note no adverse events were reported,,,..indicating that LLLT is harmless. This is a result we have consistently observed at Laser Pain Therapy in patients we treat with mild to moderate KOA. LLLT safely reduces swelling and soft tissue inflammation created by worn or degenerative cartilage and meniscus tears, a significant cause of KOA pain. Such joints become weak and weakness contributes to the pain. By alleviating inflammation and promoting tissue repair, pain is reduced and the joint can then be rehabilitated and strength training can commence. This restores function and protects against further joint damage. To find out more visit https://laserpaintherapy.com.au/ or call us in Melbourne on 03 85292225. See more
04.01.2022 LOW BACK PAIN - your CORE isn’t weak, it’s actually INJURED. Injury underlies chronic back pain. Read how our treatment at https://laserpaintherapy.com.au/lower_back_treat/ can help REPAIR and THEN strengthen your core. Weak muscles don’t hurt, injured ones do. Chronic back pain which doesn’t respond to core strengthening is due to the tissues being in disrepair. Even strong, lean, fit individuals suffer low back pain due to disruption and micro-trauma of the core, with or wi...thout disc bulges which are common findings in non-symptomatic people. In the same way fractured bones need a period of rest to repair and start the healing process, the injury underlying low back pain is no different. Our protocol which includes proven Low Level Laser Therapy and rehab, painlessly and safely assists the body’s immune mechanisms to restore healing in chronically injured tissues in the back, liberating the sufferer from chronic pain and returning them to the independence, leisure and service.
