Anything heavier than a 0.15 for a classic set can be damaging, cause breakage and poor retention. ... This is important to know because your client’s lash health should be a priority to you Here are a few tips to help you elevate your lash sets without using heavy lengths to create a full lash set: - Lash every layer! Don’t... ask me If I know this street in Ranui blah blah because I wasn’t even allowed outside my gate Growing up I had the best role models and my parents worked really hard to make sure we had a roof over our heads and food on the table. Unfortunately I didn’t do too well in high school (Kelston) wagged a lot and got bored a lot lol I was lucky enough to have family who were high achievers (too high) and always encouraged me to excel in whatever I chose to do. I left school working in retail and hated it but I was actually really good at it! Give me anything and I’ll sell it to you This definitely came in handy when I started my lash business. I started my lash business at home in 2014 like every lash artist does and had heaps of fun doing it. It was like I was playing shop as a young child again I do your lashes, you give me the money then goodbye haha Actually it was fun maybe a year in because I had major anxiety hoping and praying clients I never knew would like them and return. My first ever client was probably traumatised she never returned Fast forward 4 years I made a name for myself in a country where I had no friends and only 3 cousins who were also traumatised from me using them as my guinea pigs I got so busy I begged my parents to permanently move to Melbourne to help me look after my kids and build my business. 2 years later and two more kids later I was running a full on lash business in my home salon, I’m sure the neighbors thought we were drug dealers with the amount of people coming in and out all hours of the day lol I then got bored again and had a crazy idea to rent a commercial space in one of Melbourne’s most affluent suburbs Port Melbourne. I called my sister who was in Auckland already doing my social media and marketing and said if I sign this lease you have to come to Melbourne and help me . So she agreed then when she arrived we became the only brown faces in the area. My biggest turning point was opening a salon in an area where people had no idea who we were or where Samoa was on the map We ended up creating amazing relationships with our clients. They raved about our lashes in the area and especially the vibe and the culture in our salon. This year would’ve been our 2nd year at the shop but due to covid we made the hard decision not to renew our lease because we had no idea how long the lockdown was going to go on for. I’m so glad we did because the beauty industry was forced to close for almost 7 months. During covid we decided to open up an online store, selling brow products, lash serums, strip lashes/falsies and our favourite product, a hydrating chocolate face mask. This chocolate mask is special to us because it’s made out of pure koko samoa and was created by our friends at living koko whose mission is to help create & generate the economy in the pacific Starting the online shop was such a risk, we had no idea what we were doing or if anyone would buy our products - nek minit we were at the post office almost everyday making friends with the post ladies Before covid hit we were being harassed in the DMs & in our email inbox for years to start Lash training, so we did! We traveled to our homeland Samoa for lash training in 2019 and in Jan & March 2020 we booked out three Auckland classes. These were such humbling moments for myself, going back to Auckland felt like I had come around 360, training those girls wasn’t just about lashes, it was offering them a new stream of income, an opportunity for them to create a lifestyle they want for themselves and their family. Being from Auckland myself I knew the struggles they were experiencing because that was the exact reason why I started my business. We are not in the business of ‘doing lashes’ we are in the business of changing lives We are now out of lockdown and making plans for our 2021 Return of the Mack Look out Auckland, Wellington, Brisbane, Sydney ... basically anywhere that will take us, we are coming for you My biggest advice would be to DREAM BIG with the right mindset and surround yourself with the right people! ‘Everything you imagine you can do.
