25.01.2022 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, I invite you to join in a Novena to Christ the King, commencing today (Friday, 16th October), and concluding on the eve of the Solemnity of Christ the King: http://www.catholictradition.org/Christ/cking-feast4.htm... I propose as our principal intentions this year, the liberty and renewal of the Church, and our delivery from all forms of tyranny in both the State and the Church. On the Solemnity itself (Sunday, 25th October), we will renew the Dedication of the Human Race to Christ the King (I will send more information on this in a subsequent email). Yours in Christ our King & Mary our Queen, Fr Glen Tattersall PP

25.01.2022 22nd August, 2020.

24.01.2022 Dear Brethren, Archbishop Vigano has made another significant statement, which may be found here: https://catholicfamilynews.com//archbishop-vigano-speaks-/... Although focussed on the coming US Presidential elections, the principles of Catholic participation in the civil order highlighted by the Archbishop are just as applicable in the Australian political context. Also of interest is the causal connection that Archbishop Viganò draws between the confusion and ambiguities found within the Church during and following Vatican II, and the general crises of culture and civilisation. Next week, the traditional Latin liturgical calendar has three days of penance: the Ember Days of Wednesday, Friday and Saturday (23rd, 25th and 26th September). Although these are not currently canonically binding as days of penance, I encourage those who can to observe them by keeping the traditional custom of fasting and abstinence. We might offer the prayer and penance of those days, in union with Our Lady (whom we honour on Thursday 24th September under the title Our Lady of Ransom), for the freedom and renewal of the Church, and for a well-ordered liberty to be restored in civil society. in Domino et Domina, Fr Glen Tattersall PP

24.01.2022 Update on our seminarians **************************** Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,... This year, on account of the Wuhan influenza and the related international situation, the seminarians from the Newman Parish - Shawn Murphy (studying in France with the Institute of the Good Shepherd) and Anthony Ike (studying in the US with the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter) - were unable to return to Australia during their long summer vacation (our winter). Nevertheless, both men are well and, by God’s grace, flourishing. Anthony Ike is expected to receive the tonsure and cassock at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary this Saturday (24th October) in Denton, Nebraska. Shawn Murphy has received credits for his previous studies in philosophy and, having completing his introductory year with the Institute of the Good Shepherd, has been advanced to theology. Please keep Anthony and Shawn in your prayers. I know that they have been praying for us, especially during the difficult months that we have been enduring in Victoria. Thank you to those benefactors who have been supporting the seminarians from the beginning of their studies. I encourage parishioners who have not yet done so, to consider making either a one off or regular contribution to assist the seminarians with the costs of their formation, and associated expenses. Contributions should be deposited in the following dedicated account: Latin Mass (Melbourne) Trust A/c # 167 975 267 BSB: 633 108 Thank you for your consideration. Devotedly in Christ, Fr Glen Tattersall PP

23.01.2022 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, I draw to your attention the following podcast, providing important and disturbing information regarding the relations between the Vatican and Communist China: https://www.spectator.co.uk//the-vatican-s-sinister-deal-w ... Let us pray for the persecuted Faithful in China, for an end to the Communist regime, and the liberty of the Church. in Xto, Fr Glen Tattersall PP

23.01.2022 Reflection on the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary ********************************************************** Dear Brothers & Sisters in Jesus & Mary, ... I wish you a blessed feast of Our Lady’s Assumption. May I offer you the following reflection on the mystery we have celebrated today: https://drive.google.com//1fs8RPUCxYJ5O0FkUQxM0VmHQh/view I also invite you to pray St John Henry Newman’s Litany of the Immaculate Heart of Mary throughout the Octave of the Assumption. This will assist us to prepare for the renewal of the entrustment of the Newman Parish to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart next Saturday: https://servi.org/litany-of-the-immaculate-heart-of-mary-b/ This year, because of the circumstances in which we find ourselves, our focus will be on renewing our Consecration to the Immaculate Heart in the homes of the families and individual members of the Parish. I will be in touch with more details in coming days. With my blessing on this great feast, in Domino et Domina, Fr Glen Tattersall PP

22.01.2022 Dear Brethren, I commend to you this important petition to Premier Andrews to re-open our Churches and recognise our right to engage in public worship: https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/faith-equality... in Domino, Fr Glen Tattersall

20.01.2022 Dear Brethren, I came across this reflection this afternoon, and hope you will find it helpful. It breathes common sense, and expresses a very Catholic attitude:... https://catholicexchange.com/we-are-not-made-to-be-alone in Domino et Domina, Fr Glen Tattersall PP

16.01.2022 Dear Brethren, Please pray for young Christon Jeremiah, who is in the Royal Melbourne Children’s Hospital in a grave condition (the cause of which is still uncertain). 16.01.2022 Update: 13th November, 2020 ******************************* Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, ... I am delighted to be able to share with you a selection of photographs taken on the occasion of Anthony Ike’s reception of the cassock and tonsure on 24th October, at the Fraternity of St Peter’s seminary of Our Lady of Guadalupe, in Denton, Nebraska. https://drive.google.com//1evOxJNsJljZguAHXla0ChQlI-V1l8er For the benefit of parishioners who have joined the parish more recently, Anthony is originally from Nigeria, but spent several years living at Maryvale while he studied for his Doctorate in chemical engineering. He was the Parish sacristan during his residency with us. While Anthony is now well into his second year of seminary with the FSSP, Shawn Murphy continues his studies with the Institute of the Good Shepherd, in France. Shawn has received credits for his previous studies in philosophy, and is now in the Theology programme at the Institute’s Seminary of St Vincent de Paul, in Courtalain (near Chartres). On behalf of Anthony and Shawn, I thank those who have contributed to their financial support. I invite parishioners who have not yet contributed to the support of seminarians from our Parish, to do so. The traditional formation of future priests is simply essential for the continuance and growth of the traditional Mass and all that goes with it. Donations (either one off or regular) should be made to: The Latin Mass (Melbourne) Trust BSB: 633 108 Bendigo Bank A/c # 167975267 Thank you for your generosity. in Christ the Priest, Fr Glen Tattersall PP

13.01.2022 Some brief thoughts ********************* Beware of false prophets, who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. By their fruits, you shall know them.... Today's Mass (the 7th Sunday after Pentecost) recalls Our Lord’s warning, recorded in St Matthew’s Gospel, against false prophets. These abound in both Church and State, as we see from the bitter fruit produced by their lies and their evil works. Much of the hysteria that is being generated at present derives from the naturalist philosophy of vitalism, which is based on the lie that our only life is physical, and on this earth. But Catholics know that man possesses an immortal spiritual soul, and moreover that we are offered the supernatural life of grace, given by Faith and Baptism, that has as its end eternal life in the blessed vision of God. Sin is the greatest of evils because when it is grave it kills the life of grace. St Paul reminds his converts in the epistle to the Romans: What fruit had you then in those things, of which you are now ashamed? For the end of them is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, you have your fruit unto sanctification, and life everlasting. Last Tuesday, 14th July, was the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille, the flashpoint of the French Revolution, the poisonous fruits of which have entered into our civilisation, and corrupted many. We celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Mt Carmel on 16th July. The first Book of Kings relates the showdown between the prophet Elijah and the priests of Baal on Mt Carmel, and the triumph of the True God. We are reminded that only a small remnant of Israel refused to bow the knee to Baal. Nothing has changed. Elijah reminds us that we cannot limp along trying to serve both God and the world. The martyrs, especially, recall to us this truth in every age. The day after the feast of Our Lady of Mt Carmel, is the feast of the Carmelite Nuns of Compiègne, martyred on 17th July 1794, on the guillotine. The reign of terror ended one week later: https://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com//compiegne-to-poorest-da Poulenc honoured these extraordinary martyrs in his great Opera, Dialogues des Carmélites, in 1957. The finalé, in which the Nuns sing the Salve Regina as they mount the scaffold, is one of the most moving scenes in all Opera: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QbRpYJsqhpE May all the Holy Martyrs be with us in our present trials, to confirm us in the True Faith, and to help us bear faithful witness to the Lord, in life and in death. Not every one that saith to Me: ‘Lord, Lord’, shall enter the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father Who is in heaven, he shall enter the kingdom of heaven." Fr Glen Tattersall PP

12.01.2022 Update on Christon Jeremiah ****************************** Dear Brethren, ... Thank you for your continued prayers for Christon Jeremiah, and also for his family. Christon is making a slow but steady recovery from heart surgery last week, and is now able to sit up, walk a little, and speak. We thank God for this, and continue our prayers for his recovery. God bless, Fr Glen Tattersall PP

11.01.2022 Proposed extension of State of Emergency ******************************************** Dear Brethren, ... I am sure most if not all of you are deeply concerned by the prospect of a year long extension of the State of Emergency in Victoria. This is the declared aim of Premier Andrews. In order to achieve it, he must recall Parliament and have legislation passed to provide for this. The State Opposition has declared it will oppose such legislation. I urge you, if you share my concern, to participate in the attached survey being conducted by the Opposition Leader, Michael O'Brien: https://www.michaelobrien.com.au/have-your-say-labors-stat/ Of course, it is vital that we pray in the lead up to the sitting of State Parliament next week. There will no doubt be various initiatives in coming days to oppose any extension to the State of Emergency, and I urge you to consider each of them and their merits carefully. You should also be alert to various scams taking advantage of people’s concerns. I advise you to scrutinise closely anything you are invited to support, especially if you are asked for money. Let us pray and work for the protection of our civil rights, and for the freedom of the Church. Sincerely in Christ, Fr Glen Tattersall PP

10.01.2022 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, Preparations continue for the renewal of the Consecration of the Newman Parish, and of all Parishioners, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. We will be privileged to have the pilgrim statue of Our Lady of Fatima visit St Aloysius’ Church, beginning tomorrow. This Saturday (22nd August), I will renew the Consecration of the Parish to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart, kneeling before this statue, after 10 am Mass. ... I attach the Act of Consecration to this message, so that you can join with me in at home in renewing the entrustment this Saturday morning. http://newmanparish.org/Consecration-Immaculate-Heart.pdf in Domino et Domina, Fr Glen Tattersall PP

06.01.2022 Update: 13th September, 2020: Homily for the 15th Sunday after Pentecost. https://newmanparish.org/Homily-15th-Sunday-after%20Penteco

06.01.2022 Dear Brethren, There are some who are breathing a sigh of relief because of what is being portrayed as a backdown or compromise by Premier Andrews, concerning the proposed extension of the State of Emergency, since he has now declared he will seek a lesser extension of 3 or 6 months, instead of 12 months. Do not be fooled. It is an old political trick to stake a larger claim than what you expect to be able to secure. Andrews now seeks to portray himself as a leader who is pr...epared to listen and compromise. This is nonsense. The arguments against a 12 month extension of the State of Emergency are equally cogent against a lesser extension. The truth is, there is no reason to have either a State of Emergency or a State of Disaster operative in Victoria. If we were being properly governed, the government would consider only those measures that are truly essential for public health - such as quarantine arrangements, and protection of the vulnerable, especially those in institutional care. It may well be that most necessary measures can be covered by existing legislation, but if this is inadequate surely special legislation (with a sunset clause) could be passed to deal with those precise matters. The broad powers connected with a State of Emergency are excessive and unnecessary, and in fact distract attention and divert resources from where these are truly needed: it is like using a wrecking ball to swat a fly! A vital question that should be put to Premier Andrews is whether many of the deaths due to the Corona virus, which are mostly now in aged homes, are preventable. Can we be sure that the elderly who are infected are receiving fully adequate treatment? What scrutiny is there when even family cannot gain access to their relatives in care? It is important to ask this, especially given Andrews’ wholehearted support of euthanasia. It has now emerged that the British government issued a do not resuscitate" order in relation to the elderly in care - can we be assured that the same is not happening here, either formally or informally? Read the British story here: https://www.wnd.com//british-government-issued-blanket-dn/ Issues of transparency and accountability are not of course confined to the actions of the Victorian government. Henry Ergas’ article in today’s Australian brilliantly details very real concerns about the Federal government’s decision to restrict the ability of Australian citizens to leave the country. I have copied Ergas' article below for your study (please consider subscribing if you have not done so already). https://newmanparish.org/ergus-28-8-2020.pdf In addition to prayer, I urge you to make your concerns known to your elected representatives at State and Federal level. Now is not the time to be complacent. Let us commit ourselves with even greater resolve to demand the full restoration of our civil rights, and the freedom of the Church. Sincerely in Christ, Fr Glen Tattersall PP

06.01.2022 What I’m reading in mid-July Reclaiming our Roman Catholic Birthright: The Genius & Timeliness of the Traditional Latin Mass Peter Kwasniewski... As I started reading this book I soon realised that it was even more timely than the title implied, especially for those people in Melbourne who are currently deprived of attendance at Mass. After only a few chapters I felt like I was participating in a virtual retreat, concentrating on the spirituality of the Mass. Even those chapters with strongly apologetic titles such as ‘A new (old) Perspective on Active Participation’ take you on a trip deep into the liturgy, and give you a multitude of concepts for meditation, along with instruction so beautifully expressed that it is not like a lesson at all. Take this passage on the classical liturgy: ‘It offers shelter to the pilgrim and hospitality to the beggar, a gleaming of facets to the artistic, an intricate mesh of symbols to the intellectual, a starry vault to the dreamy. To the working man it offers graced repose, to the simple man an immediate contact with the divine, to the cultured a colourful tapestry for contemplation, to the God-fearing an endless series of provocations and illuminations, to the contrite repeated opportunities to stir up and express repentance’ (from the chapter, ‘The Mass that Demands More, Delivers More, p 89). Or this one: ‘Although the classical rite is the most complex and highly structured work of art known to man, its architectural spaciousness offers innumerable points of entry, its creviced solidity provides countless handholds to grip on to, and its reliable solidity permits a calm continuous relationship with it as one progresses in the spiritual life’ (from the chapter, ‘The Dire Need for a New Habit of Mind’, p 99). Dr Kwasniewski has a particular knack for choosing the perfect metaphor to express difficult concepts, and he knows so much about the different aspects of the liturgy that you can be sure you will learn something worthwhile from everything he writes. Can’t wait to read the next chapter #peterkwasniewski #catholicliturgy #romancatholicmass #classicalrite #liturgicaltheology #catholicspirituality

I invite you to take part in a Novena of Preparation for the feast of Our Lady’s Assumption. Today (6th August) is Day 1 of the Novena: ... http://smvparish.org/documents/Novena%20Day.pdf May I suggest that you add to the daily Novena prayer, the Litany of Our Lady: https://d2y1pz2y630308.cloudfront.net//Litany%20of%20Loret In addition to our personal and private requests in this Novena, let us entrust to Our Lady the following intentions: an end to the threat of the Wuhan virus, a return to good government and accountability in the State of Victoria and respect for our civil rights, and the freedom and true renewal of the Church. I hope to send additional updates to you in the near future. Yours devotedly in Jesus & Mary, Fr Glen Tattersall PP

04.01.2022 Update on Christon Jeremiah ******************************* Dear Brethren,... Christon Jeremiah remains in a very serious condition, and will undergo open heart surgery tomorrow, Thursday 20th August. Please keep him in your prayers. I will update you as I can. God Bless, Fr Glen Tattersall PP

03.01.2022 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, I commend to your study two more important recent interventions by Archbishop Viganò. The first continues the debate regarding the status of Vatican Council II, and its responsibility for the present crisis in the Church: https://insidethevatican.com//letter-21-monday-august-10-/" ... The second piece is a reflection on the Kingship of Christ. Among other things, the Archbishop draws important connections between the present state of the Church, and the state of civil society as it degenerates into a dictatorship in many parts of the world (a movement in which the Andrews regime of Victoria is leading the way). The following excerpt well summarises what we are enduring: "We find ourselves not only besieged in the civil sphere, in which for centuries dark forces have refused the gentle yoke of Christ and imposed the hateful tyranny of apostasy and sin on the nations; but also in the religious sphere, in which the Authority demolishes itself and denies that the Divine King should also reign over the Church, her Pastors and her faithful. Also in this case, the sweet yoke of Christ is replaced by the hateful tyranny of the Innovators, who with an authoritarianism not dissimilar to that of their secular counterparts impose a new doctrine, a new morality, and a new liturgy in which the only mention of the Kingship of Our Lord is considered as an awkward legacy from another religion, another Church. As Saint Paul said: God is sending them a deceiving power so that they may believe the lie (2 Thess 2:11). To read the full article, visit: https://www.lifesitenews.com//ap-vigano-christ-the-king-ha In the present distress, let us look with hope towards Our Lady, whose glorious Assumption Body & Soul into Heaven, we are about to celebrate. in Domino et Domina, Fr Glen Tattersall PP

02.01.2022 9th October, 2020 - Update on the feast of St John Henry Newman Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, I wish you a blessed feast of St John Henry Newman, our Parish Patron. This morning, I offered my private Mass in honour of St John Henry for all the temporal and spiritual needs and intentions of our parishioners, and for the freedom of the Church. I am attaching to this message the sermon I preached in 2010, on the occasion of our Patron’s beatification by Pope Benedict XVI.... https://newmanparish.org/NewmanSermon26thSept2010.pdf We have celebrated another great feast this week: that of Our Lady of the Rosary (also celebrated as Our Lady of Victories), on 7th October, the anniversary of the great victory of the Holy League in the Naval battle of Lepanto in 1571. This year, that day was the occasion of another victory: some of the most objectionable provisions of the Omnibus Bill that was before the Legislative Council of Victoria, were withdrawn. Thanks be to God and to Our Lady, Help of Christians! But we must not allow ourselves to grow complacent. Even after these amendments, the Omnibus Bill still constitutes a significant threat to our just liberty, and must be rejected root and branch. So let us continue to pray and work for this. For your edification, I recommend you to the following reflection by Roberto de Mattei: https://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com//de-mattei-lepanto-octob Especially during this month of the Holy Rosary, let us be faithful to the daily recitation of the Rosary, especially in the family, adding the October prayer of St Joseph, and praying especially for the freedom of the Church. And may our glorious patron, St John Henry Newman, defend us, instruct us, and guide us. in Domino et Domina, Fr Glen Tattersall PP

01.01.2022 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, I ask for your urgent and persevering prayers for our dear friend and Father in Christ, Bishop Peter Elliott, who is in a life-threatening condition in hospital. Archbishop Comensoli’s letter, which I attach below, explains the situation. May Our Blessed Lady, St Joseph, and St John Henry Newman, come to Bishop Elliott’s aid and restore him to us, safe and sound.... in Domino et Domina, Fr Glen Tattersall PP > > > > Good afternoon Bishops, Fathers and Deacons, > > It is with sadness and deep concern I notify you that Bishop Peter Elliot is gravely ill. > > Yesterday, he had a heart turn and was admitted to hospital. Whilst there, he had further heart episodes and is currently in an induced coma in the ICU of St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Melbourne. His condition is life-threatening. > > Bishop Elliot’s family have requested that I let you know. As no visitors can be admitted to the ICU under COVID precautions, we must now take up our prayers for him. > > May Our blessed Mother hold him gently. > > +Peter
