22.01.2022 There are nine specialities of Psychology within Australia. The College of Educational and Developmental Psychologists apply their skills in many contexts, assisting individuals and organisations to foster cognitive, social and emotional learning, connectedness and social support, and individual and group development. You might find Educational and Developmental Psychologists in schools, early developmental services, assessment and treatment clinics for children, disability services, in research centres or universities, and in private practice to mention a few. In order to be an endorsed Educational and Developmental Psychologist you need 8 years of training and supervised practice. #CEDP #psychology #mentalhealth #disability #disabilitysupports #edpsych #learnwelllivewell #mentalhealthmatters #wellbeing

20.01.2022 Today, more than ever, it is important to check in on those around you. Your friends, family, neighbours, colleagues. It’s not always easy to keep the conversation going when someone says they’re not OK, but it could change a life. By starting a conversation and commenting on the changes you’ve noticed, you could help that family member, friend or workmate open up. If they say they are not ok, you can follow the conversation steps to show them they’re supported and help them find strategies to better manage the load. If they are ok, that person will know you’re someone who cares enough to ask. Show your support by asking those close to you today - R U OK? Visit www.ruok.org.au #theresmoretosay

12.01.2022 Just a little insight into the world of a psychologist...

11.01.2022 Not all communication is speech. Around 1.2 million Australians have communication disability. Though, communication disability is largely invisible. Unseen and out-of-sight. That’s why during Speech Pathology Week (23-29 August), we supported our Speech Pathologists to raise awareness of communication disability and the important work speech pathologists do to ensure every Australian is ‘communicating with confidence’.

10.01.2022 As Melbourne approaches the next stage of the new Covid normal, we encourage everyone to stay safe, maintain physical distancing, wash your hands and don't forget your face covering!

09.01.2022 With the announcement of further restrictions for Melbourne, staying apart to stay together has never been more important.

09.01.2022 Today is World Heart Day, a topic very close to our hearts. Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death in Australia Heart disease represents one in five of all deaths in Australia Cardiovascular disease accounts for one in four of all deaths in Australia Key risk factors that contribute to heart conditions are largely preventable, including high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Additionally, most people don’t associate these key risk factors with their h...eart health Two in three Australian adults are overweight or obese, which is among the leading risk factors for heart disease. #useheart to live your best life Use Heart is about using Your head To understand what it takes to live a heart healthy life and to act on that knowledge, changing your behaviour for a better quality of life now and in the future. Your influence As an individual to set an example for your loved ones. As a healthcare professional to help your patients make positive changes for their heart health. As an employer to invest in the heart health of your employees. As a government to implement policies and initiatives that will lead to better societal heart health, such as sugar taxes, smoking bans and reducing air pollution. Your compassion To look beyond the self and act in ways that support the most vulnerable in society; those with underlying heart-related conditions that may put them at greater risk in the time of COVID-19. https://www.world-heart-federation.org/world-heart-day

07.01.2022 HAPPY PSYCHOLOGY WEEK Welcome to our series 'What is Psychology?" to celebrate National Psychology Week. We will be sharing with you information available through the Australia Psychological Society website to help expand the knowledge and understanding of Psychologists and what they do in our community. Why Psychology?... The goal of psychology is not just to study human thinking and behaviour, but to put that knowledge into practice, to help people, communities, and society in general to solve day-to-day problems and improve quality of life. Psychology is therefore also a profession, devoted to helping people and the community find solutions to real life problems such as improving mental health and wellbeing, learning, performance, relationships, and societal cohesiveness. #psychology #mindset #mentalhealth #mindfulness #health #coaching #therapy #motivation #wellness #inspiration #happiness #anxiety #positivepsychology #awareness #NDIS #APS #psychologyweek

06.01.2022 So what does a Psychologist actually do? Psychologists no longer just sit you on a couch and ask you about your problems! Like everyone this year, psychologists have had to be creative to ensure the people they support are able to continue to access the services they need. The work of a psychologist is incredibly varied and the list is endless. Broadly speaking, most psychologists provide assessment and/or therapy to clients, help facilitate organisational or social change, ...conduct research, or administer psychological tests to individuals or groups. Anyone can access a Psychologist, and with Medicare rebates increasing to 20 sessions annually, there has never been a better time to access support through a psychologist. https://www.psychology.org.au//about-psychology/What-does- #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #selfcare #selflove #love #anxiety #motivation #depression #mentalhealthmatters #mindfulness #life #wellness #loveyourself #inspiration #healing #happiness #positivity #positivevibes #covid #quotes #therapy #mindset #meditation #mentalillness #instagood #happy #psychology #psychologist #health #psychotherapy #psychologyfacts #philosophy #quotes #wellness #psychologystudent #mind #counselling

Ahpra, or the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, works with 15 national boards to help protect the public by regulating Australia's registered health practitioners, including Psychologists and Occupational Therapists.
