25.01.2022 Awesome work by Victoria in bringing Covid under control!! We are still required to maintain some Covid precautions, so please continue to be thoughtful and helpful, as the vast majority of our clients have been throughout this challenging period. - Numbers are still limited within businesses - so please continue with one person per pet as much as possible... - If you are at all unwell - please stay home and get tested. If your pet needs care at this time, please ring to discuss the options. - Please continue using masks and hand sanitiser. - Some of our vets are comfortable with taking clients into consult rooms, some have personal reasons for not doing this all the time. Please respect their individual choices. - If you are concerned about not being with your pet for examination and treatment, please discuss this with the staff when making your appointment. We will do our best to place you with a vet who is comfortable to include you. - Within consultation rooms, it is still very important to maintain social distance as much as possible. Please respect this. Thank you to all our clients for your co-operation & support.

18.01.2022 To keep our staff safe, we are returning to asking clients to remain out of our consultation rooms in most cases. We will be reviewing this continually over the next couple of weeks as we see whether this cluster develops or is controlled quickly. As always, we ask that you do not attend our clinics if you are at all unwell (stay home, get tested etc) - ring us if you have an urgent problem with your pets while in this situation. We thank you for your understanding. Victoria did it once - we can do this again!!

17.01.2022 Tomorrow will be a hotter day than we are used to - remember the precautions you need to take for your pets - shade, plenty, water, move the little ones (guinea pigs, rabbits etc) indoors perhaps. If you haven't already, start planning how you will deal with the super hot days of summer. Share some 'hot' tips if you have them.....

13.01.2022 Well Summer is certainly here!! How do you keep your pets cool on hot days? Here are some of our tips on keeping your pet cool on these warm days-... -make sure water is readily available all the times (in the heat it will quickly evaporate, it’s important to have more than one water dish/ container available at a time, in-case of spills!) A wading pool is great for bigger dogs, they have access for a drink, lay down or play in the water -Use a few ice blocks into their water bowls -Keep them in cool/shady areas, ideally inside if they can be. -Small animals, such as rabbits and guinea pigs are very susceptible to heat and ideally should be brought inside onto cool tiles, if not at all possible then placing a wet towel over part of the cage or placing a sturdy ice pack or frozen water bottle in the cage that they can lean against will also help. Make sure their cage is out of direct sunlight as much as possible. -Don’t walk dogs on hot pavement, if you are unsure if it is too hot to walk n, place your hand to the pavement for 5 seconds, if its too hot for you then its too hot for your pet. Walking on hot pavement can cause nasty burns. -NEVER leave your pet in a hot car, a pet can die within minutes when shut into a hot car. If your concerned about a pet you’ve seen shut in a hot car call 000. -Use sunscreen on pink noses/skin and white ears! Our clinic has pet safe sunscreen available to purchase. We would love to see how some of your pets are keeping cool in this weather! Post some photos in the comments below.

12.01.2022 Are you as excited for the weekend as Sadie?! Believe it or not this was her face after her vaccinations this week!

10.01.2022 Snakes are well and truly out and about and we have already treated a few cases at our clinic in the past couple of months, including one today! How can owners and pets reduce the risk of an encounter with a snake? Simple things like keeping the backyard tidy, keeping the lawn mowed nice and short will all make sure there are less places for them to hide around the house. Of course if you see a snake-leave it alone as it is likely just passing through. Otherwise call your l...ocal snake catcher. What are the signs I will notice if my Dog does get bitten by a snake? Snake bite signs can differ from every animal which can make it hard to diagnose. The amount of venom injected and the location of the bite can also influence how the animal is affected. Many animals will initially vomit after envenomation, then they will drool saliva excessively. Some then appear to recover for a short period. This will progress to ataxia (unsteady on feet), lethargy, depression, dilated pupils, collapse, production of dark red urine and if untreated, it can lead to death. How is a snake bite treated? First the snake bite is confirmed by some specific in clinic blood testing. Then anti-venom, IV fluids and intensive care is administered. Often the animal will be in hospital on IV fluids for several days to help prevent long term kidney disease. If you suspect your animal has been bitten by a snake and/or is showing any of the above signs then bring them to a veterinary clinic for assessment immediately. Always ring to let the vets know you are coming, so they can be prepared to treat as quickly as possible.

05.01.2022 Fireworks and pets Does your pet stress during fireworks? Do you have a plan set for New Years? ... Here are some tips to help your pets be safe and settled around this time- - if possible take your dog for a long walk or a big day out to help exhaust them so they have less energy to get excited or stressed during the fireworks - if you are able to, leave your pet inside during the fireworks time be sure to leave a radio or tv on to help block out the noise - close curtains and blinds and if possible leave lights on to make the flashing lights outside less obvious -try not to make a big fuss over your pet close to the time, instead using a normal routine and manner can help - during the time you can try playing your pets favorite game to help distract them and reward them for calm behavior - it’s important to make sure your pet cannot escape outside of your property during fireworks, many pets get frightened and take off, causing them to be lost and run in front of cars etc. If you know your pet is scared of fireworks or you are unsure, it’s best to keep them safe inside for the night. There are also natural products, medications, thundershirts etc that may aid your pet during thunderstorms/ fireworks etc. however it is recommended you trail these products prior to the event happening to find which one is right for your pet! Have a happy and safe New Years!! We look forward to seeing you and your pets in 2021
