23.01.2022 NEW LCHS RESEARCH: HALF OF AUSTRALIANS WITH DISABILITY DON'T FEEL INCLUDED IN THEIR COMMUNITY. As an NDIS partner in the community, we're working towards a more inclusive and accessible Australia for all. After all, everyone deserves the same opportunities and experiences. We recently surveyed 600 people with disability and their carers, and found half don't have a positive experience in day-to-day activities like grocery shopping, taking the train or eating out. These quote...s from the people we surveyed describe why. We've put together a discussion paper that outlines how we can change these experiences. 22.01.2022 It is important to know how to correctly dispose of single-use face masks to keep ourselves, our environment, and our wildlife safe. Follow the simple steps below to do your part: Break the ear loops: By breaking the ear loops on your mask, you help to avoid a scenario where animals may become entangled in the loop accidentally if it was to end up in the environment. ... General waste, don't recycle: It’s also important not to put disposable masks in the recycling bin, as they can get caught in recycling equipment and become a potential biohazard to waste workers. Place any used face mask in a closed bin, ideally one that does not need to be touched so you can avoid the risk of spreading infection. Ditch single-use for reusable: Where possible, try to use reusable masks. These can be easily machine washed and do not need to be thrown away.

17.01.2022 When we think of Halloween the word 'healthy' doesn't come to mind. But there are lots of ways to make Halloween healthy! With the help of our dietitians, we've put together some awesome treats that also tick the healthy box. Here is how we made each one: Apple teeth: slice up some apples and spread with your favourite nut butter. We used macadamia nuts for the teeth, but you could use cashews or even raisins.... Banana ghosts: Halve a banana and dip in low-fat Greek yogurt. Stick on some dark chocolate chips to make the face and pop these in the freezer for a yummy icy treat. Witch broomsticks: Slice up some low-fat cheese and tie it around a pretzel stick. We secured them in place with some cooking string. Spider sandwiches: Use a cookie cutter or glass to cut circles from your favourite low GI bread. Fill your spider sandwiches with ham and cheese or nut butter, stick in some pretzel legs and you have a creepy-crawly sandwich. We added some dark chocolate chips for the eyes, but you could also use raisins or nuts. Get creative and have a go at turning your favourite Halloween treats into healthy snacks. The kids will love it!

Dylan Alcott and Angus O’Loughlin speak to people living with disability about their lives and ask them the questions you thought were off-limits in their podcast ListenABLE. https://www.podcastoneaustralia.com.au/podcasts/listenable 3. 09.01.2022 Getting your finances sorted can be stressful at the best of times. Budgets, bills, transfer fees and withdrawal limits - these are important conversations that help us keep our accounts in order. But trips to the bank can be even more stressful for people with hearing impairments, especially when there's a lot of background noise they can't cut out. The team at Bank of Melbourne is changing this experience. They've introduced portable hearing loops and trained staff in acces...sible communication, so people with hearing difficulties can do their banking with ease. We're really pleased to have helped the bank implement this initiative. Click on the link below to read more. If you'd like to learn how you can communicate clearly with people with hearing difficulties, get in touch. As your NDIS partner in the community, we're here to help. 1800 242 696 [email protected]

05.01.2022 If you know someone who lives with sensory sensitivities, you'll know how challenging going to the pool can be. Loud noises, bright lights, crowded change rooms and unfamiliar textures - these can be overwhelming and extremely uncomfortable for some of us. In fact, they can put people off from going to the pool altogether. Our friends at the Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre are changing that experience with dedicated quiet times. We're really proud to have helped the le...isure centre roll out this inclusive experience, and can't wait for the centre to reopen so more people can enjoy the pool. Have a read of what the centre got up to before COVID-19. If you'd like to learn how you can create a sensory-friendly environment, get in touch.
