23.01.2022 At the height of the pandemic, diversification was key to a businesses’ success. Southern Wild Distillery was no different but was, fortunately, able to adapt its Dasher + Fisher Gin to a local hand sanitising product. Mr George Burgess, master distiller and joint owner of the Southern Wild Distillery, acknowledged that while sanitising is still key to Tasmania’s minimal COVID-19 cases, the time has come for Southern Wild Distillery to return to our core product - gin produc...tion. Devonport Mayor Annette Rockliff said, we can all recall how hard it was to purchase hand sanitiser last year during the COVID lockdown and it was great to see a Devonport business like Southern Wild Distillery produce their own product in their own backyard, being Providore Place. Latrobe Council Mayor Peter Freshney said, the hand sanitiser is a very generous and welcome donation, supporting community groups and events to meet the State’s COVID safety guidelines around ongoing hand sanitisation requirements. Kentish Council Deputy Mayor, Cr Don Thwaites added the the distribution of the Southern Wild Distillery sanitiser through local government recognises our close connection with the community, which will ensure the sanitiser is provided where there is the greatest need. Community groups throughout the North West wishing to access this supply of the Southern Wild Distillery sanitiser are advised to contact their local Council. Cr Rockliff added that this is such a generous donation and I applaud Southern Wild Distillery for giving back to their community, which in turn will help keep residents safe. See more

11.01.2022 An information board, sculptures and a selfie frame highlighting the significance of the land the Resort is on and the colonial artist - Louisa Anne Meredith, ...who lived there with her husband Charles who was Police Magistrate for the Port Sorell District in the 1840’s - were installed at Shearwater today as part of the 7 Day Makeover team’s work. Two curious visitors (boys from Ulverstone who were staying at the Shearwater Resort) quizzed me on the installation and they then went and got their Mum. I convinced her to pose with the boys, in the Selfie frame. I am so glad that the history of the land and the significance to Shearwater - is now there for our tourists and locals to see and learn about. Matt Clark of Clark Metal Fabrication (pictured) donated his labour and time to construct the frames and get them powder coated and then this morning had his staff install the frames and the information boards. 05.01.2022 Vale - Bernard King It is with sadness that Council acknowledges the recent passing of local resident and passionate community member, Bernard King. Bernard sadly passed away on November 17 following the loss of his wife Pat on November 16. Over a great number of years Bernard was an active member of his community including instigating the Port Sorell Neighbourhood Watch Committee, a main driver in getting a bus service to the Port Sorell area, a past member of the Rubicon Coast and Landcare Committee, a past member of the Port Sorell Advisory Committee and he freely provided assistance with the native garden roundabout in Bluewater Crescent. Bernard embodied a true community spirit and the Latrobe Community is indeed poorer for his passing. Council’s elected members and indeed the community pass on their condolences to the King family.

04.01.2022 Another winner! Congrats to Vos Construction & Joinery P/L who were recognised at the Master Builders Tasmania 2020 Awards this past weekend, for the Warrawee A...menities Block (Wild Mersey Mountain Bike Trails facilities) From the judging panel: "This delightfully simple, robust amenities building is very neatly finished, with an attention to detail that belies the limited nature of the project budget and scope. Each of the limited palette of materials has been used and finished appropriately and well, and the challenges overcome of working in a relatively remote area." We had a heap of fun working with the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service and Kentish Council on this project, and are really proud to see it receiving this recognition! 04.01.2022 ***BREAKING NEWS*** MERSEY COMMUNITY HOSPITAL EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT TO REOPEN 24/7 Council very much appreciates the work undertaken by the Minister for Health, the Honourable Sarah Courtney and Health Secretary, Kathryn Morgan-Wicks which will enable the reopening of the Mersey Community Hospital Emergency Department 24/7 from November 30.
