22.01.2022 Hi all! Thanks, Alison, for this edition, no. 35! Annette ... Hello friends, How is your garden growing? Our cherry tree is laden with ripening fruit. And our first lilium bloomed yesterday. (1 bulb was dug up from my Grandma's garden at Glenmaggie many years ago, because it was struggling and looking sad. Good Drouin dirt was all it needed-now we have 12 flowering stems taller than Heidi!) Huge thanks to the committee and members who came along to the AGM on Saturday afternoon. It was lovely to see (and hear) so many happy voices and faces, and to reflect on the great work we did in 2019. Bring on 2021! We were notified last week that our application for a Latrobe City Operational Grant for $2,500 was successful. This is in response to community organizations not being able to do their normal fund raising activities this year. We are very grateful for Latrobe City's support and foresight in making these funds available. Make sure you thank a councilor! Our joke of the week is from a past student of mine: I recently took a pole and found out that 100% of the people in the tent were angry when it collapsed. No video this week, but Click Here to have a laugh at a pic from Tuba Kristian... https://m.facebook.com//a.8205042113702/3490060807747933/ Have a great week, stay well, and please stay in touch. We love hearing from you. And we will let you know as soon as possible about any restarting of our programs. Alison
21.01.2022 Hello friends, I hope you have all had a great week. I'm sure you are VERY interested in knowing what is going on... We have decided to hold our AGM ONLINE!! And, all members are invited to attend! ... Please refer to the full email of this edition, sent out earlier today. If you didn't get it, or have any questions, please contact to ask! 4pm Saturday 7th November on Zoom, from the comfort of your own home. Bring your own glass of something strong! After all that excitement, I am sure you want to know our joke of the week: What is a balloon's least favourite type of music? Pop. And our video comes from Ron in the flute section. A beautiful rendition of On the Sunny Side of the Street. Click here to watch. I needed to watch this today. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=10159074333914260 Next week we are looking forward to hearing what Janice in the flute section has been up to, and the new additions to the percussion section. Have a great week, and please stay in touch. We love hearing from you. Alison
18.01.2022 Yep, rehearsal is ON!! :) :) Yay! Hello wonderful friends, We are living in a very complicated world. We are 95% sure we can rehearse tomorrow night, but we waiting to hear back from Council for confirmation, which will happen tomorrow morning. So, please plan and be prepared to rock up tomorrow night at the LPAC (same as last week) at 6.45pm, wearing a mask and having signed in with the QR code or website listed. ... If things do change and we do need to cancel, we will put the update on this page. Please be reminded that if you have visited any of the exposure sites listed on the DHHS website, you must not come to rehearsal tomorrow night. Thank you for your ongoing patience while we negotiate making music in a Covid world. See you tomorrow night (hopefully.)
17.01.2022 Hi all! Sad to say, that due to resumption/change in Covid regulations, we are postponing tonights rehearsal! Hopefully next week will be our first rehearsal now, when the new regs are fully understood! We apologise for any inconveinience and look forward to seeing everyone next week! Cheers, Annetfe
16.01.2022 Hi all! Confirming that tonights rehearsal WILL go ahead! Hoping all players can attend, under same "covid" conditions as last week! :) cheers, Annette
12.01.2022 Hi All! Edition 29!! Here it is! .. Thanks Alison! :) Hello friends, Have you managed to get out in the sunshine this week? It has been beautiful down in West Gippsland, even though the weeds are going nuts. ... I had noticed that our windows out to the beautiful weather weren't looking so clean, so Heidi and I have been on a window cleaning mission this week. She loves the squeegee so much that she washed the same window for nearly 3 hours on 2 separate days! Is it cruelty to kids if I don't stop her? She seemed happy- humming and singing to herself, and making up songs. Our Funny for the week comes from Tracy, Cellist in the Beginner Strings. Thanks for the contribution! (It is a good one!) Click here to see. https://www.facebook.com//a.19155286086/3637120432979375/ And you better check out this young lady making some beautiful music on the harp. Thanks to Ron in the flute section for this one. Click to see. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2473478349391337 Our committee are meeting again this coming Saturday to discuss plans moving forward, so if you would like anything added to the agenda, please email [email protected] Have a great week, and please stay in touch. We love hearing from you. Alison
09.01.2022 Hello everyone! Hope your week was good! Here is Alison's edition 33! Thanks again! Also, nice to see the Timpani Covers in place! (helped put them on tonight!.. Much better than the blankets that were "protecting" them! ) (Fingers are crossed that we can take them off to use SOON!! ) PS... Thanks Brett, for already offering to help with Bunning's BBQ!! ... Annette Hello friends, I hope your week has been good. Great virus news this week, hey? We've just started picking strawberries from the garden (before the birds get them), and the cherry tree is laden with ripening fruit (hopefully the birds don't get those.) Speaking of birds, did anyone else do the Backyard Bird count last weekend? We spotted a pair of Kookaburras and 60 Ibis fly in a V overhead our tiny suburban block in 20mins. Some exciting news in today from Bunnings- we are able to run BBQs there again, albeit in a Covid safe way. New rules mean we need at least 5 people on duty at all times. Would we have enough volunteers to run a BBQ before the end of the year? Please let me know if you are interested. They are a great fundraiser for us, capably organised by Annette and Janice. You may have noticed the new Gippsland Performing Arts Centre taking place next to the Traralgon Town Hall and Little Theatre. We have been given the opportunity to have a say on the following... - What would you like to see programmed in the new GPAC? - How do you think the opening should be celebrated? With whom? What could our involvement look like? If you have any ideas, please let us know and we can collate and pass them on. Our joke of the week: What do you call a paddock full of eye balls? An eye patch. And you will never have heard Bach's Toccata and Fugue played like this! Click here for the wine glass version. (Thanks Ron.) https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=10159127452154260 Don't forget our AGM is on Saturday 7th November at 4pm on Zoom. Link to be sent with Edition 34 next week. Hope to see you there. Have a great week, stay well, and please stay in touch. We love hearing from you. Alison
08.01.2022 Hi everyone! Here is Edition 34 of our weekly catch-up, from Alison! Thanks! ..Annette ... Hello friends, Can you believe we have a very long weekend for a 3 minute horse race? Anyway, a long weekend is a long weekend, so I will take it. We ended up paddling with 400 million other people down at the local river. It was a beautiful day to be out of the house. This Saturday 7th of November at 4pm is our much anticipated AGM! Woo Hoo!! I am going to bring Almonds, Grape juice and Mussels... what about you? Zoom Meeting details and password have been sent to members at their email address! Please get in touch via [email protected] if you didn't get that email,, subject Edition 34! The committee will meet briefly at 3.30pm, so please let us know if you are keen to help with a BBQ at Bunnings, have ideas about our involvement in the new Gippsland Performing Arts Centre, or have ideas on how we can safely make music together. Now, for the important stuff... Our joke of the week (I can't take the credit here... It's from Brad...) Why did the whale buy a violin? So he could join the orca-stra. Heidi has just discovered The Muppets. The Swedish Chef has her in hysterics. Enjoy this video (or maybe it is just my kitchen on any normal night...) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7UmUX68KtE&feature=youtu.be Have a great week, stay well, and please stay in touch. We love hearing from you. And contributions are always welcome! Alison
05.01.2022 Hi all! Here is Edition 31, from Alison! Really,,, 31!!! .. how many more,, much as I enjoy them! ?? ;) Thanks Alison! Well done Janice!.. sounds great!!... -- Annette Hello friends, How magnificent was last weekend? I wrangled a pole saw and mutilated some pesky vines that are taking over the in-laws farm. Alison =1. Pesky vines= 0. And after watching the Phillip Island Penguin Parade online for 3 weeks straight, then learning and crafting about penguins for another 3 week, Heidi was beyond excited to visit the penguins 'for real life' on Sunday. Their poo-shooting antics certainly won her over. If you need to get out of the house, I recommend a visit- only a handful of people were there! Earlier in the year, we were lucky enough to receive a grant of $1,800 from the Latrobe City Community Arts Fund. Last week, we took delivery of a magnificent Yamaha Glockenspiel and stand, 3 Adams drop covers for our beautiful new timpani (that have hardly been played), plus 2 sets of glock mallets, 2 timpani mallets and some new bass drum mallets. Heidi gives them the thumbs up! Massive thanks to Bryn at Future Music, plus the ongoing support from the Latrobe City Community Arts Fund. Our joke of the week: What's the definition of perfect pitch? When you throw a banjo in the bin and it lands on an accordion. Janice in the flute section has been involved in an online flute ensemble throughout this lockdown. She has learnt new repertoire, had to practise in time with a metronome, and then videoed herself performing. Click here to check out Janice in the virtual flute ensemble. Great effort, Janice! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QLe5ObfN2c&feature=youtu.be Don't forget our AGM is on Saturday 7th November at 4pm on Zoom. Link to be sent via email, to members, prior. I'm going to make Almond Gluten free Monster cookies for the occasion. What about you? Have a great week, and please stay in touch. We love hearing from you. Alison
04.01.2022 1st Rehearsal, at Town Hall in Traralgon. (corner of Grey and Breed streets!)
02.01.2022 Hi everyone! Here it is,, weekly edition 32! Thanks Alison! (Here's hoping things are on the mend at your place! )Annette Hello friends,... I hope you have had a good week. Ours has been... messy. 2 days back at daycare after a break since March, and Heidi brought home a ripper virus to share. We've all tested negative for Covid though. I think Heidi will have a very good immune system by the time she gets to school! Our joke of the week: What is the difference between a piano and a fish? You can't TUNA fish. And this very short video is hilarious. Click here to enjoy oboe accompanied by squeaky chicken toys. You'll thank me later. https://www.facebook.com/750718795/videos/10157998156868796/ Don't forget our AGM is on Saturday 7th November at 4pm on Zoom. Link to be sent prior. Hope to see you there. Have a great week, stay well, and please stay in touch. We love hearing from you. Alison
