24.01.2022 Small fry Nicolas Gilham with one of two bluefin tuna he tagged and released off Port Fairy, Victoria yesterday. Nicolas will now patiently wait to here if his tuna are ever caught again with details of their location, time at liberty and size growth provided via NSW fisheries.

22.01.2022 This is looking good. Well done Canberra and Bermi bait and tackle.

22.01.2022 Great so see the Kamocean boys getting it done on the week-end. They tagged a Striped Marlin on Saturday along with a capture on Monday taking out the Heaviest Marlin in the Bluewater Classic. Loving the new rig too

21.01.2022 We’re all slowly making or have made our way back from Bermagui. A few winners from across the week-ends Alliance T & R and Bermagui Blue water Classic with a popular win from our Bunksey crew with skipper Scott Henning and crew of Anthony Adams and Ben Barnes (Alliance). The guys picked up the hotly contested champion boat (under 7.1m) edging out gun VGFC team Swoopa, with two Striped Marlin, one on 15kg line.... The were also a part of the Champion Team award with Relentless Pursuit and Dream Weaver, tagging and releasing 10 Striped marlin!! Bunksey has been threatening for a few years now and are deserving and modest winners!

20.01.2022 The Victorian Game Fishing Club regretfully announces that due to the current COVID 19 situation the Victorian Broadbill Swordfish Championship will not be held.... The VGFC along with the Gippsland Lakes Fishing Club agree that this is the best course of action given the circumstances. The VGFC is also advising members that the General Meeting for April has been cancelled and that decisions on future meetings and tournaments will be made as more information comes to hand. We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause and we look forward to providing more positive news in the future.

19.01.2022 Team Coopa Cat getting it done in pre-fish today with 2 from 2 on lures. Well done team and good luck for the week-end. Tournament briefing is 7pm tonight. For those who haven’t had a chance to pre-register, we will be at the Bermagui Big Game Anglers Club rooms from 6pm at the Country Club.

19.01.2022 Finalising our captures and tag and release tallies for 2019-2020 season. Thanks to Bermagui BBGAC for weighing some nice tuna for new members, Greg and Jake Buckland on Uncle Buck. Well done guys - look forward to seeing if you take out a capture category in the tuna division!

19.01.2022 Well it was another successful Alliance Tag and Release Tournament for the LVGFC, with 9 keen LVGFC club boats fronting up for the admittedly so-so weather forecast and making up half the field. Those that made the trip were rewarded with better than expected conditions, and Subhunter was on the board early with couple of quick Mahi Mahi to lock away the Small Fry win for young Nicholas Gilham. The sprightly crew then followed up with 3 marlin in quick succession that had al...l the comp boats pulling in lines and powering up to the kink to find a fish. Unfortunately the fishing from there tapered off and with a unassailable lead, Subhunter took the champion boat under 7.1m trophy home. Congratulations to Lachie O’Rielly for taking out day 1 champion angler, and Sam Cunningham for locking away champion Junior. By all reports although there were only 14 marlin caught for the weekend, there were plenty more bites and dropped fish and most boats had a chance or two. A great weekend of fishing and looking forward to backing it up again next year, hopefully with a better weather forecast!

18.01.2022 The Chairman’s trophy went to Archer Conway. What a legend this fella is. Fished sporting conditions over the two days on legendary Bermagui vessel ‘Reel Weapon’. Watched his mum hooked up to a marlin on day one and was unlucky not to have a chance at a fish himself.... Three cheers to you Archer and hope to see you tournament fishing again soon

17.01.2022 Well done to a number of crews getting into the snapper over the week-end. From Western Port and Welshpool through to Lakes Entrance. Good work lads! On a side note, we are looking to make our 2020 annual presentation via Facebook this year. We just need the sign off from President Arthur and it will be good to acknowledge some pretty good gamefishing achievements considering the obvious hurdles.

16.01.2022 Some pics from our club president Arthur Cunningham and Wil and Sam. They headed up our 7.1m plus category on their glamour vessel ‘Huntress’ with a marlin on each of Saturday and Sunday. Sam taking our champion junior angler for the second time in 3 years.... Well done captain and crew

16.01.2022 Congrats to the Jackson family on the ‘The Joker’ who tagged 5 Striped Marlin for the week-end fishing the Bermagui Bluewater Classic. Well done Ian, Ryan and Luke and also master crewman Dick Brown on a cracking week-end. The vessel these guys fish on

15.01.2022 We allowed to travel yet?

15.01.2022 Entry forms are now available for the 2021 Alliance Tag & Release Tournament. It would be greatly appreciated if boats wishing to fish the Tournament complete the entry form and submit to Christine at [email protected] Entry fees can be paid at any time up until the briefing on the Friday night of the Tournament.

15.01.2022 We had this pic come through from Jason Madex. Jason went out from Bermagui on Luna Seas on Thursday. It was his first trip out trying for swords and pulls one of the better NSW swords caught using the day time deep drop method. Plenty of experience crewing by the looks with Dicky Brown and Dennis on board. These guys have been putting in the hard yards since the 70’s and 80’s. Admin remembers back in the day when ‘Deniz’ home base used to call on the radio prior to the repea...ter signal. Stuff of legend! Well done Jason, captain and crew.

14.01.2022 Was a big pre-fish day yesterday leading into the Alliance Tag and Release Tournament. Big congrats to Debbie Barnes on her first marlin fishing on ‘Knucklehead’. A very strong presence of LVGFC crews will be giving it a good crack this week-end. As a part of the organising committee we are very appreciative of the efforts being made by all crews in coming up.... Good luck to all fishing.

13.01.2022 Congratulations to club member Daniel Schmidt ,Pete Schmidt ,Adam Adam Jinks fishing aboard On Strike II with Captain Josh winning the 2020 Gamex in Exmouth. Champion Boat T/R 22 Billfish , Champion Male angler Daniel with 10 Billfish . Stella effort Boys considering Gamex is one of the Country’s premier game fishing events and competing over six days with arguably some of the best crews in the game.

13.01.2022 Ben Barnes and Anthony Davis did the local thing launching out of Port Welshpool on Wednesday. The boys found the mother load of biting tuna and put together a nice bag and releasing a few others. Good to hear Dan Vardy and crew on ‘Wet Knickers’ also got into them as well!

13.01.2022 And with that we are off! Allowed to get back on the water as of midnight last night, who’s keen to get out there for a fish! I’m sure there will be a few swords out there waiting for a freshly presented bait, while already this morning there are barrels being caught at Portland

13.01.2022 Great to see Wil Cunningham out in the deep blue catching some premium table fish in the Tasmanian Trumpeter. Might be worth catching up with Wil afternoons at Get Wet Outdoors, Traralgon, for the latest.

12.01.2022 Everyone needs a bit of marlin in their day. Looking to email an update on fishing results so far for the annual awards. A bit of an up and down season again but hopefully some good fishing opportunities present over the coming weeks.

11.01.2022 Bunksey has found them early on their first day of pre-fish leading up to next week-ends Bermagui Tag and Release tournament. Looks to be quite a few crews making the trip up.

10.01.2022 It’s been a couple of years since a club boat has caught a swordfish. Here some video of Jack Crutchfield hooked up on ‘Happy Hour’, last week-end. Well done Jason Tyquin and Wil Cunningham getting the job done.

09.01.2022 Shout out to Captain Scotty and his good mate James with his first marlin today off Lakes Entrance. Another Victorian marlin for Bunksey!

08.01.2022 Long time fishing journalist view ATM. See you on the water!

04.01.2022 Just a little update that we are looking to organise an afternoon of wood fired pizzas and for Sunday 6th December in Traralgon. The venue is seeking clarification on easing restrictions this Sunday from government before confirmation. There were some 50+ fish tagged and released and a couple of captures for the season. Be good to catch and present trophy winners.

04.01.2022 A little shout out to the Warragul and District Fishing club dream team of Neil, Daniel and Shane on ‘Coopa Cat’. They put their LVGFC guerseys on for the Alliance Tag and Release Tournament and went 1 from 8 on Saturday. The boys set the pace in pre-fish fishing in ‘sporty’ conditions to say the least.... Be good to see this crew together again next year and see what they can do.

04.01.2022 Last but not least was Nicolas Gilham who hung in there to fish both days over the week-end. Nicolas took out champion small fry angler for the third year running in the Alliance T & R tournament and was also recognised by the Bluewater Classic. The dolphin fish took a live slimy mackerel whilst trolling for marlin.... Well done Nicolas.

03.01.2022 Little shout out to Paul Irvine, Recorder for GFAV for sending a batch of tuna tags out. Thank you. If any members are planning tuna trips over coming weeks, please get in touch. We are counting down to the end of fishing year and some categories are still wide open. Contact Scott or Christine for pick up in Traralgon or mail out.

01.01.2022 Secretary Scott says it’s time to party. We’d like to invite members to Green Olive, Princes Hwy Traralgon. Kicking off 3pm Sunday 6th December, finishing when the bar is dry.... All afternoon wood fired pizzas and Trophy presentation and the yearly send off. Email invites will be forwarded to members. Be great to catch up!
