17.01.2022 Update on restrictions COVID-19 30 April 2020 The NSW Government has announced an update on COVID-19 restrictions and how schools and retail outlets will operate in May 2010. ... Three key changes will take effect from Friday 1 May are: 1.Up to two adults and their dependent children will be allowed to visit another household. The two adults do not need to be related. 2. Classroom teaching will commence as a gradual return from 11 May. A full return to school will be considered soon afterwards. 3.There have never been restrictions in NSW on what people can and cannot buy, however there may be increased retail activity, with some businesses choosing to re-open. All shops are required to maintain social distancing and hygiene requirements. The relaxation on visits to households has been made to reduce social isolation and improve mental health. It extends the existing guidelines of being able to leave home for care or medical purposes. There is no limit on how far you can travel within NSW, but you must adhere to the rules. When visiting, meeting in an outdoor environment such as a home garden, backyard or verandah will help reduce risk. If you are visiting people aged over 70 or those with underlying health conditions be extra vigilant with social distancing and hygiene measures. Do not visit anyone if you or they are unwell, even if you have mild symptoms like fatigue or a scratchy throat. If you are concerned get tested. The two-person gathering limit still applies to public places. For further information on what you can and can't do under the new rules visit www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/what-you-can-and-cant-do-under-rule
15.01.2022 JobKeeper payment extension granted to assist with cash flow Businesses and have been given an extension to pay their employees under the JobKeeper program. Small businesses that had concerns about paying their staff the $1,500 fortnightly JobKeeper payment for the first month prior to payments flowing in early May, now have until 8 May 2020 to ensure those payments have been made to their eligible employees.... Family Enterprise Ombudsman Kate Carnell said this will come as a welcome relief for small businesses struggling with cash flow. Small businesses now have extra time to deal with cash flow pressures as a result of any delays with their financial arrangements. It’s especially critical now that those small businesses that had chosen not to apply for JobKeeper because they were worried they couldn’t pay their staff by April 30, do so now, said Ms Carnell. The big four banks have established JobKeeper help lines that are dedicated to ensuring small businesses have the funding they need to pay their staff. They are promising to fast-track these applications. There are also some fintechs that have released products to help small businesses with cash flow. For those small businesses struggling to pay their rent, remember you are only covered by the Mandatory Commercial Tenancy Code of Conduct if you are eligible for JobKeeper, so this could be essential to your business’ survival, explained Ms Carnell. Businesses have until 31 May 2020 to formally enrol to claim JobKeeper payments. However, the sooner an employer pays their staff for April and enrols, the sooner the ATO can reimburse them the JobKeeper payments. Further information can be found at: www.ato.gov.au/general/JobKeeper-Payment

07.01.2022 In my final post as NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner, I write to simply say thank you. Thank you to all NSW RFS members, past and present, both salaried and ...volunteer, for your unwavering perseverance, dedication and commitment to serving and protecting the people of NSW, as well as communities much further afield when called upon to do so. Thank you for your candour and passion in seeking improvement and betterment in all that we do and more importantly, your generosity, support and care when colleagues are truly in need. Thank you for the support and care that I and my family have received when we’ve needed it over the years. Thank you to all our police and emergency services partners, government agencies, community organisations and media for the extraordinary commitment to coordinated fire fighting and fire management, community eduction and engagement, and of course public information and warnings. Thank you to the many communities across NSW who, throughout this last fire season, exercised extraordinary patience, understanding, resilience and took considered decisions to help save lives and livelihoods. Thank you too to all those that extended such generosity and care to those that needed it most. The worst we've experienced in mother nature resulted in the very best of humanity. I look forward to starting my new role tomorrow as Commissioner Resilience NSW and Deputy Secretary Emergency Management, where I am confident I will be able to be part of a wonderful team that continues to focus on supporting and protecting the people of NSW, particularly those so terribly impacted and affected by the recent drought, bush fires and current pandemic. It was lovely to have Lisa at Head Office today and for her to be a part of my ‘low key’ farewell, it really meant a lot. Thank you. Whilst it was odd not being able to shake hands or share a hug, I really appreciated the many conversations and very kind words. Thank you. Thank you again and farewell. I look forward to catching up with you all in the future.

04.01.2022 Dame Vera Lynn: We'll Meet Again singer dies aged 103 The much-loved musician behind hits such as The White Cliffs of Dover, I'll Be Missing You, There'll Always Be An England and the iconic We'll Meet Again was best known for boosting the morale of soldiers with her trips to the front line during the Second World War. A statement released to media said: The family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of Britain’s best-loved entertainers at the age of 103.... Dame Vera Lynn, who lived in Ditchling, East Sussex, passed away earlier today, 18 June 2020, surrounded by her close family. Dame Vera was born in East Ham, east London, on March 20, 1917. She performed for troops during the war, often at great personal risk, in countries including Egypt, India and Burma, and her music helped to raise the British public's spirits during the Blitz. My songs reminded the boys of what they were really fighting for, she once said. Precious, personal things, rather than ideologies and theories. Dame Vera, who later had her own television show and toured the world, remained an outspoken supporter of military veterans throughout her life and recently urged the public to "remember the brave boys and what they sacrificed for us" to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day. We'll Meet Again became a source of comfort to many Brits during the coronavirus pandemic, with the Queen memorably echoing the song's lyrics in her address to the nation in April. In May this year, Dame Vera became the oldest artist to score a top 40 album in the UK. The 103-year-old saw her greatest hits album 100 re-enter the chart at number 30, boosted by commemorations for the 75th anniversary of VE day on May 8. AAP
