21.01.2022 A fantastic article. Thank you to one of our amazing LYTE mums (Billie) for sharing with us. Because creativity - at its core - involves being courageous enough to use action to think differently. It's taking a step and seeing where it will take you without knowing the answer beforehand. It is the fundamental architecture of how we evolve humanely. How we act responsively and with agility. How we communicate with empathy and urgency. And how we feel alive.... We can’t wait to be back in the studio soon with our young artists; to be re-connecting and creating theatre that helps us see our world in a new way.

The production features beautiful performances from our ensemble, and will be a brilliant theatre experience for the whole family. We’d love to share our show with you. Your Name: Mieke Burch Your Age: 14... How long have you been a member of LYTE? This is my fourth year at LYTE. What is the character you play in your show? The Blue-Haired Fairy. Why do you love being involved in theatre? I love acting and figuring out who a character is. But I also love being on stage, it's really exciting and exhilarating because you only have one chance each show. I love seeing all the people there who are weird and quirky and fun. Each Tuesday, after having to get through school, I get to go to theatre and let all my stress go. What is your favourite story of all time? My favourite story... that's hard because there are so many books, movies and television series that I love. But one of the many would be the Lord of the Rings. I read the books and watched the movies and loved both. I love them because the characters so real and it makes me want to leave this world and disappear into a world of ents, elves, dwarves and hobbits. Why should people come and see your show? Because it's a well-known story but there are some twists and turns that make it so much more fun and interesting. You still have the same shape and ideas, but there's more humour and ideas to be played with. And finally, to play the characters, we've got a really great cast of wonderful people. I really think it's going to be a lot of fun. 11.01.2022 MEET THE ACTOR! Edie Burns is one of LYTE’s wonderful Junior Company actors, and is performing in our upcoming production of TWIST. The production features beautiful performances from our ensemble, and will be a brilliant theatre experience for the whole family. We’d love to share our show with you. Your Name: Edie Burns... Your Age: 12 How long have you been a member of LYTE? I have been a member of LYTE for three years. What character do you play in TWIST? I am playing the role of Fagin, in the twisted version of the classic tale Oliver Twist, TWIST. Why do you love being involved in theatre? I love that being involved in theatre gives you the chance to express yourself creatively. I also love being able to be myself without fear of being judged. This may seem strange seeming you’re playing a completely different person, but when you are given the chance to meet other quirky, slightly crazy and possibly creatively insane people, you feel truly at home! What is your favourite story of all time? That is an extremely difficult question. I love Harry Potter, but I always enjoyed Enid Blyton books such as ‘The Naughtiest Girl in the School’ and ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’. ‘The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe’ always enchanted me and the storey of Ballet Shoes has been read many times. Some of my favourites have been: ‘The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place’, series, The ‘Inconvenient Adventures of Bronte Mettlestone’ series and ‘The Secret Garden’. I always enjoy a good mystery, fantasy or adventure but I could never chose just one favourite as I love reading. Why should people come and see your show? TWIST is an excellent play full of scenes that are funny, sad, happy and thrilling! The notorious Bill Sikes will keep you on the edge of your seat. You will love kind hearted Nancy and the vendors, market sellers and dotty Mrs Grimwig will have you in stitches (I promise). The magical set and props will enchant you thanks to all the behind the scenes work. And there is lots of fun audience participation! Overall TWIST is an absolutely wonderful play! 11.01.2022 LYTE are proud to announce our next major theatre project; a collaboration with the remarkable Tasmanian writer Cameron Hindrum to create a new theatre work for our young artists. This play commission will see Cameron writing a brand new play for LYTE (to be performed in 2021). Our creative development process kicks off today, giving LYTE actors the unique opportunity to engage with a professional writer (throughout the development process) and to act as a driving force for ...the work. We need our kids to hear their own unique voices and see themselves in art; to give them the opportunity to reimagine our world and a new way forward. Through this project we hope to invigorate their craft and empower them as theatre makers of the future. This is an exciting chapter for LYTE; our previous original (mainstage) production was produced in 2011, premiering as part of Ten Days on the Island Festival before a subsequent tour to Canada. We’re excited for the possibilities and the creative journey ahead. And we look forward to sharing the stages of our project with you all.

11.01.2022 LYTE are thrilled to recommence our classes in Term 3, and enrolments are open for young people from Prep-grade 12 :) Our company now includes an exciting Pre-Junior Ensemble, specially created for children in Prep-Grade 2. Participation in theatre builds courage and confidence, and develops imagination, creative thinking, mindfulness, communication and social skills.... Over the past 22 years, LYTE has delivered meaningful theatre experiences to thousands of young Tasmanians. We’d love to have the opportunity to welcome you to LYTE. 10.01.2022 I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being. Oscar Wilde We love this quote. And we’d love to share our theatre with you. Please join us for one (or both!) of our end of year shows. TWIST ... Earl Arts Centre 2, 3 & 4 December at 6pm. 09.01.2022 I will be forever grateful for my mum enrolling me in LYTE; the best experience, the best environment. I learnt so, so much from the amazing teachers and mentors. The friendships I made I will have for a life time. Charlotte Edwards (18 years old) Charlotte started with LYTE as a 10 year old. It was an absolute joy to work with her, and it’s been an honour to watch her development as an incredible artist and human being. The company is a really inclusive community and we have a great time putting together a production. What is your favourite story of all time? It’s so hard to chose just one but I love stories of Greek and Roman Mythology. Why should people come and see the show? It’s a great classic story but this show has some different elements and the way we have put it together is really interesting and unique. Well worth coming to watch! 04.01.2022 CLASSES POSTPONED Due to the current public health situation, we have made the incredibly hard decision at LYTE to cancel classes for the foreseeable future. While schools remain open, and we are not affected by the Federal Government’s advice to cap indoor public gatherings to under 100, we believe the suspension of classes is in the best interests of our families, our staff and students, and the greater community.... We will regularly update you on the status of classes, as we all take this journey together. You are all precious; please take care and know that we are thinking of everyone in our beautiful community at this very tough time. LYTE is a place of meaning and joy for so many young people. We can’t wait to get back to what we love doing: making connections and making theatre. Jane and the LYTE creative team xxx
