25.01.2022 We are delighted to announce the 2020 Peter Sculthorpe Alumnus Award recipient is Australian classical composer, Don Kay AM. His sterling career as an award-winning composer includes the composition of over 200 works publicly performed in Australia, the United Kingdom, United States of America, Switzerland and Italy from a symphony, to operas, orchestral and choral works to chamber and solo works.

24.01.2022 Our Grade 7/8 Boys and Girls football teams had a great afternoon at Scotch Oakburn Park. The boys team defeated Scotch Oakburn College 17.15.117 to 1.2.8. In the girls game, it was an even contest in the first half but our girls kicked away in the last quarter, winning 41 to 27.... Well done to all of our players and coaching staff and good luck against St Patricks College next Wednesday afternoon.

24.01.2022 Early Learning Frankcombe were visited by Mrs Kent, a nutritional scientist who taught them about the importance of eating food from across the colours of the rainbow. The students learnt that red food is good for their heart, yellow is good for their skin, orange is good for their eyes and blue/purple is good for their brain. Our students then created a visual representation of a rainbow using food. Thank you, Mrs Kent for this wonderful session, our students loved it.

21.01.2022 FRIDAY FLASHBACK 1999 was another fantastic year for the Music department topped off by the success of the annual music tour to Victoria, with 46 students participating. Highlights included performing to 300 students at Camberwell High School, rehearsing and workshopping with Ballarat High School and performing at the Robert Blackwood Hall at Monash University (pictured). Launceston Grammar students performed at an extremely high level with both the concert band and stage ban...ds receiving silver rewards in recognition of excellence. 20.01.2022 Congratulations to the Launceston Grammar students who competed in the recent St. Cecilia Productions Tasmania's performance Challenge. Over 700 performers participated across the three-day event, with around 70 Launceston Grammar students taking part. There were many wonderful performances from a variety of instruments including piano, voice, stringed instruments, bagpipes, flutes and more. Events such as this are so beneficial in helping students to build confidence and resilience as they share the wonderful joy of music with others!



19.01.2022 Our Grade 3 students enjoyed a delightful day trip adventure to Hagley Farm School where they learnt about years gone by at the Hagley Museum and in the Olde Classroom. They also explored healthy waterways and investigated organisms in a pond study activity.

19.01.2022 The U16 and Open Girl rowers ran 5km on Sunday in support of Cancer Council Tasmania Pink Run. Director of Rowing, Max Rowan, Dean Lalor, parents and siblings also ran or helped marshal. Well done to everyone involved.

19.01.2022 Soccer Boys Gr7/8 Premiers. Congratulations to our Grade 7/8 Boys Soccer team who were undefeated all season and drew 1-1 with St Patricks College in the final on Friday afternoon at Faulkner Park. With thanks to Coach Damien Rhind and Manager Paul Gray for all of your work with the team this Term.

18.01.2022 BIG FREEZE FOR CHARITY Our Grade 12s did a fantastic job today with their latest fundraising event for Fight MND. Our wonderful staff braved the icy water to raise funds for this years charity dressed admirably as pirates! Dr Cameron Rogers also played his part! Well done to everyone involved.

16.01.2022 Saturday Senior Sport Results. Our Senior Soccer and Netball teams had a very successful Saturday morning against Scotch Oakburn College. The Senior Girls Soccer team remain undefeated with a 1-0 win, the Senior Boys Soccer team had a 4-1 victory and our Firsts and Seconds Netball teams both had good wins at Scotch Oakburn College. Good luck to all of our teams that progress through to finals next week.

A part of the Launceston Learning Festival, the Plastic Free Launceston Team will deliver amazing activities including AUSMAP Citizen Science looking at microplastics on beaches and how to detect and classify them, making beeswax wraps and looking at plastic free alternatives to everyday products. 12.01.2022 Our HPE Staff had professional development in the Fitness & High Performance Centre at the Senior Campus today, run by Nathan Pitchford who is an Exercise Physiologist and Health Science Lecturer at the University of Tasmania. The half-day workshop focused on strength and conditioning coaching principles for HPE staff to safely introduce basic resistance training exercise into the Grade 7 to 10 HPE programme. We are very fortunate to have built a strong connection with the University of Tasmania through our Strength & Conditioning coach Mr Theunis Pieters who is completing a PhD in athlete training load monitoring. We look forward to seeing the benefit that our students will have in utilising this facility and gaining knowledge from the HPE staff to enhance their lifelong fitness.

11.01.2022 KREATIVE KOALAS! At the Junior Campus our Grade 3/4 students are participating in the Picture You in Agriculture competition called Kreative Koalas. Our students are focusing on issues relating to sustainability and in particular the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as part of their unit of inquiry ‘Life on Earth is fragile’. Their learning is displayed on a life-size fiberglass koala. Picture You in Agriculture provides an innovative hands-on programme that sees students research a local agriculture related area of investigation and express their findings through multimedia and art. Our Grade 9 have a life-size fibreglass cow to work with.

07.01.2022 As part of an inquiry into communities our Early Learning classes were visited by farmer Sarah Cole and two lambs. It was such a joyful visit and students were able to feed the lambs a bottle and touch their wool. Thanks to Sarah for the visit.

07.01.2022 This week Grade 5 traveled to Queen Victoria Art Gallery at Royal Park and the Cataract Gorge for a day of learning connected to their unit of inquiry ‘Solutions come from cultures and communities working together’. They learnt about the early history of the Tamar River, Cataract Gorge and surrounds and visited the Gallery of the First Tasmanians exhibition. An informative guided tour and cultural experience in the Gorge was provided by Mr Geoff McLean from Wallaby Walkabout Tours.

06.01.2022 Enterprising entrepreneurs from Grade 8 to 12 vied for $500 in prize money in the first ever Entrepreneur Club Pitching Competition. Club members delivered their pitches to local entrepreneurs Martin Quinn and Errol Stewart, articulating their enterprise’s solution to a problem. Only one point separated the first-place winner, Peter Strong. Second place went to Reiley Hind, Alex Bennet and Thomas Foster. Congratulations to all of our enterprising Entrepreneur Club members.

Over the years they brought about many improvements. In front of the school building was an empty stone shield. At first two owls, signifying wisdom, were chosen, but Gillett wanted two busy bees. He preferred to see the School as a hive of industry rather than merely a seat of wisdom. 02.01.2022 Today 3/4 Coombe and 4 Youl walked to the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery Inveresk to visit the Planetarium and listen to a talk from Martin George and Chris Arkless. This fascinating talk about planets, the Solar System and our galaxies and stars linked to the Central Idea, Earth and Space are part of a Complex Universe. The students were praised for asking critical and thought-provoking questions and their overall engagement on the day.

02.01.2022 This week we launched our Leadership Lunch programme at the Senior Campus with Tasmanian Premier, Peter Gutwein as inaugural guest speaker. The programme is designed to inform students and staff about leadership in action with guest speakers providing details and advice around their own leadership journey to date.

01.01.2022 Todays Grade 11 v 12 Football fundraiser match for this years Walkathon charity had Grade 11s leading at half time. Grade 12s fought back in the second half but failed to kick a goal after the siren and lost by 4 points. With thanks to Dom Schiliro (2019) for umpiring.

01.01.2022 A SUCCESSFUL AFTERNOON IN SCHOOL SPORT! Our Firsts Girls soccer team are back-to-back NSATIS premiers after a 1-1 draw against Marist Regional College and will go on to play Fahan in the State SATIS Final. The Firsts boys had a nail-biting end to their final at St Patricks College, conceding a goal with 2 minutes left, going down 2-1. Our Seconds netball team fought hard against a strong St Patricks team in the NSATIS Final to finish off a great season of senior netball. ... The Grade 7/8 Boys football team won 69-13 and the 7/8 Girls won 96-14, showing great potential for the future of football at Launceston Grammar.
