22.01.2022 Great news to see the 2020 influenza numbers are at a record low! Let's hope the numbers stay down! We are still getting a significant number of inquiries for vaccines, especially from people requiring it for child care and aged care visits. We are therefore holding another round of drive-thru flu clinic this weekend. ... Bookings can be made via https://www.hotdoc.com.au//l/doctors/drive-in-flu-clinic-5

21.01.2022 Very important mail delivered today. Thank you Daisy for your super-kind words and for making us all smile PS Your handwriting is better than many of our doctors.

19.01.2022 5 years ago a baby-faced doctor joined Launceston Medical Centre as a registrar, embarking on a career in General Practice. In that time he has continued to cause havoc within the practice, never missing a moment to provoke his colleagues with his cheekiness! Outside of work he has been kept very busy, becoming a Dad to 3 beautiful princesses. ... His weekends have been filled with his love for AFL (playing with Old Scotch Football Club), Rogaining and of course many tea parties! What many don't know is that he has also been studying, pursing a career as an Occupational Medicine Physician. It is with great sadness that we let you know, he will be finishing up with regular sessions on February 21. He has promised he will help out with the occasional walk-in-clinic so we do hope to see him around! Farewell Dr White! We will miss you and your empty teacups! We wish you all the best for the next chapter. (He jokingly advises that leaving gifts can be left with reception )

13.01.2022 We thought we'd have a bit of fun to introduce the two awesome doctors who have joined the team. Both Dr Dan Lack and Dr Sean Daugherty have pursued their medical careers later in life, both with fascinating backgrounds. Can you guess...... 1. Who has previously worked as a climate change research scientist? 2. Who has previously worked as a sea kayaking guide on Tasmania’s East Coast, around Freycinet National Park? 3. Who has an interest in filmmaking and tech start-ups? 4. Who has worked as a rescue specialist continues to work with the Ben Lomond Ski Patrol?

13.01.2022 It was almost a year ago that Dr Maggie Smolinski shaved her head raising more than $2,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation. So we think it's especially fitting that she be nominated for Chilli 90.1fm's best healthcare provider! Fingers crossed for you Maggie! (But you'll always be #1 to us!)

09.01.2022 Were you unsure about whether to have a booster flu shot this year? This article might be helpful to explain.

08.01.2022 With the recent announcement of an additional 10 mental health sessions being available up until June 2021, we thought it would be a good time to provide a few answers to some frequently asked questions we get about mental health and Mental Health Care Plans (MHCP). What is a mental health care plan (MHCP)? A mental health care plan is a plan your doctor writes with you about treating a mental health condition. It helps you to access eligible allied health professionals lik...e psychologists, social workers or occupational therapists who can help you to get better and live well. Do I need to have depression to get a MHCP? No. A mental health care plan can be useful for people with minor mental health conditions or very serious conditions, short-term concerns or long-term illnesses. Can I see a professional such as a Psychologist without a MHCP? Yes. Many Psychologists, Mental Health Social Workers and other allied health providers are happy for you to book directly to see them, however a Medicare rebate will not apply. If a MHCP has been prepared by your GP, you may receive a Medicare Rebate. An out of pocket or gap payment may still apply. How do I get a mental health care plan? A mental health care plan needs to be created by your doctor. You can visit your regular GP, or if you don’t have a doctor you normally see, any GP can create a mental health care plan for you. Creating a plan can take a little longer than a normal appointment, so it can help to ask for a longer or double appointment when you make your booking. Tell your doctor what your concerns about your mental health are and that you are interested in creating a mental health care plan. Your doctor will need to diagnose you with a mental health condition to create the plan, so they will ask you questions about what’s been happening and how you’ve been feeling. They will ask you to fill out a form called a K10 form, which is a simple checklist that measures if and how you’ve been affected by anxiety or depression recently. I have used my initial 10 sessions for this calendar year. Do I need to do anything to access the additional 10? Yes. Your GP will need to do a review for you to be able to access the additional sessions. If you or someone you know need immediate assistance, phone support is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week. As list of these services can be found at; https://wellingtonstclinic.com.au/useful-links/

03.01.2022 WHY DO PATIENTS PAY A GAP TO SEE A GP? Here is just one example which may help to explain why. As of August 1st, GP's are no longer able to bill Medicare for interpretation and reporting of an ECG. ... The item number used (11700, which attracted a rebate of $27.45) is now obsolete. A new item number is now available which will allows for tracing only. The rebate is just $16.15. This is not only for the doctors involvement, but also allows for nursing time (typically 20 minutes), the cost of the machine itself and the medical consumables (eg ECG clips and the paper). An (Electrocardiogram) ECG is a safe and highly valuable test that is used to look at the heart's electrical function, for example when patients have experienced chest pain. It can be used to help diagnose irregular heart rhythm, coronary artery disease and identify structural problems with the heart chambers. In the last 12 months alone, Launceston Medical Centre has performed more than 800 ECGs.

02.01.2022 Launceston Health Hub extends a warm welcome to Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mr Roger Butorac, who has relocated from his Brisbane Street rooms.
