You can find us at Site 412, on Fourth Avenue near the Site office/Central arena. We will be selling merchandise/souvenirs so pop in, learn something and meet our wonderful ...team. See you there!

24.01.2022 Our annual BBQ fundraiser @ Bunnings was a success - by the end of the day we'd sold out of sausages (45kg) and nearly all the drinks, tons of repeat customers - was a great day for all!! Thank you to all who attended :D

23.01.2022 As old as the Titanic, but look at it now! Hope to have it on it's new truck sometime this year, then wiring then it will be in limited service. Back on the rails after 60+ years :)

22.01.2022 You may have noticed Tram 29 running a lot more often over the past few weeks - we're in the middle of driver training, which is all about familiarisation, gaining experience and getting some hours up on the rails. There are no interruptions to the regular Tram timetable. Pop down and see us, experience what we have to offer :-)

21.01.2022 LTMS will be at the Models, Hobby & Collectables Expo @ Inveresk on the 26th October. Tram 29 will be running, with tickets available from our stall for a gold coin donation - see you there!

21.01.2022 ABOUT THE RIDE: Tram 29 does 7 trips per day (Wed-Sun) but will only run when there are passengers. The best time to visit is between 10:15am and 2:30pm, as the Tram will be ready. Each trip takes 25-30 minutes and departs the Tram Stop outside the Launceston Tramway Museum where Tram 29 sits during the day. Travelling North we head up to the old roundhouse/turntable for a photo-op then South back to the "train station" near Invermay Road. We then travel back past the museum ...where the trip repeats only this time with our "soundscape" playing - a step back to final year of the trams (1952) with audio from the popular movies and hit songs of the time, as well as the original radio broadcast from when the final tram was put away for the very last time, still absolutely loaded with passengers. ABOUT THE TRAM: Tram 29 was the last tram to be built (1930), and is the only surviving L.M.T. "double bogie" tram left in existence. After it's recovery many years were put in by a VERY dedicated group to restore Tram 29 to it's former glory, something they have since repeated with Tram 8 and continue on Tram 1.

21.01.2022 Our appearance at AGFEST was a huge success!! What an excellent opportunity it was to discuss our "Trams in the City" proposal, for the people young and old to meet our wonderful team and see firsthand the effort that goes into restoring a 100+ year old tram. We got plenty of support for the petition (Trams in the City) and the merchandise sales & donations will help us achieve our goal in providing an improved experience for our visitors. For those that took advantage of ou...r FREE TRAM RIDE offer don't forget to pop in and see us before September 30 to redeem your ticket. The LTMS team

19.01.2022 One of the wonderfully talented Graeme Quinn's trams, hand-built using the original plans.

17.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we were today informed that the world has lost another brilliant Launceston trammie - Andrew John Thollar, or "Andy" as he was affectionately known recently passed away, aged 85. It was nearly this time last year that we had the absolute pleasure of having Andy ride Tram 29 - something he hadn't done for more than 62 years. He was a man of many talents, had some great stories from his days on the trams, was a real wealth of information on all th...ings Launceston and an all-round great bloke. Deepest condolences to his family, our hearts go out to you. We will miss you mate. R.I.P. Andy Thollar - April 7th 1929 - March 13th 2014

10.01.2022 Tram 29 stopped at the "station" at the southern end of the track. Taken from the air :)

09.01.2022 Just finished our end of year BBQ, was a good chance for everyone to catch up before the holidays :)

08.01.2022 Popped in to see the Restoration crew today, who work Tuesdays and Saturdays. They've made tons of progress on their custom "truck" assembly which will soon end up under a tram to make another runner, likely Tram 8. BACKGROUND: When the trams were retired and sold off in 1952 nobody wanted the running gear (wheels and motors) so they were scrapped - none exist today, so there is only one option - adapt what we do have to suit what we need.... We were very lucky to have a Japanese tourist donate a heap of bogie assemblies, one of which has been dismantled and integrated into our "truck". BOGIES are are sets of four-wheels spaced 5 feet apart - a bogie tram requires two of these bogies, one each end. The problem is we only have one "bogie" tram (29). The other 3 trams being restored: Trams 1, 8 and 26, require "trucks". TRUCKS are sets of 4 wheels spaced 7 feet apart, which are mounted in the middle of the tram, one truck per tram (see pic).

07.01.2022 Good day to have the tram out testing the new generator :)

06.01.2022 One from the archives. Here's a great shot of the biggest Launceston Tram accident EVER, which occurred on Wednesday 12th March 1913. ==============... LAUNCESTON TRAM ACCIDENT. A sensational tram accident occurred tonight in High-street, Windmill Hill. At 9 o'clock a car, bound for the city, bolted from Adelaide-street, and, when coming down the incline approaching Elphin Road, left the rails, shot across the road, and crashed through the galvanised iron fence of Bifron's house. There were three passengers in the car, but they remained seated, and escaped injury. The conductor, however, who jumped out, was badly shaken. The cause of the bolting was due to the sand-box failing to act in conjunction with the brakes the line being rendored greasy by a few drops of rain which had fallen. ============== Tram 2 is safely in the hands of the QVMAG Inveresk, in original "as found" condition with no plans to restore at this time.

03.01.2022 Today we at the LTMS had the absolute pleasure of having retired Conductor/Motorman/Inspector Andy Thollar pop in for a visit. He clarified a bunch of technical questions we had, filled in some blanks and told us all a bunch of hilarious stories from his days on the Trams. After our chat we had Andy drive Tram 29 - something he hasn't done for 61 years - and to see him throw it back into coast while coming downhill from the turntable, it was just natural to him - he hadn't forgotten a thing! To all those onboard it was a great experience, with plenty of smiling faces all round. To see the look in his eyes, it was really something special to be a part of.

02.01.2022 Due to staff availability issues the museum will not be open on Fridays until the end of September. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at LTMS please get in touch.

02.01.2022 104 tram riders - what a day! So many new visitors to the museum, it was great to see so many people out & about enjoying the sun. Thank you all for making the Model Expo @ Aurora Stadium a success.... The LTMS team
