25.01.2022 Great scenes from opposite sides of the LUFT!

24.01.2022 Adapt and overcome! The LUFT goes through several trails in the Kate Reed Reserve...unless it is closed due to a global pandemic. The LUFT has temporarily re-routed to the east of Kate Reed Reserve, departing the LUFT at Kings Meadows Link and reconnects with the LUFT at the Westbury Road/Meander Valley Road intersection.

24.01.2022 The dam at Lake Trevallyn is undergoing maintenance. The inlet at Blackstone Park doesnt often look like this!

24.01.2022 While we wake up to a slightly different world every morning, its great we can participate still in the simple things. A walk along the LUFT is certainly something we enjoy. :-)

23.01.2022 The Levee Trail alongside the Kings Wharf, which forms part of the Launceston Urban Fringe Trail, has had a small but not insignificant upgrade . The installation of an accessibility ramp into the kerbside will make this section of trail more accessible to wheels of all kinds. Thank you City of Launceston Official for this valuable infrastructure upgrade which improves the accessibility of this path.

22.01.2022 As John Ralph from Ascent Fitness just completed the LUFT this weekend, the map of the LUFT, downloable as a gpx, is on Strava. The original three files have been combined into one Strava activity. #justsayin

22.01.2022 Now this looked like a peach of a day to be out on the LUFT!

22.01.2022 Thank you to all who supported the bid for funding to assist the LUFT at the Greater Regional Cities Challenge! Worthy local projects put a bid in for a slice of $100,000 and the LUFT came in 4th of the 12 projects to be funded! *happy dance*... The funds will assist the Rotary Club of Central Launceston with the clubs The Launceston Walking Festival which is currently due to be held on October 3 and 4 on the LUFT! That event will not only raise funds for a worthy charity, but registrants will also get a downloadable interactive LUFT Map! https://www.examiner.com.au//whitewater-surf-idea-one-of-1

21.01.2022 Always exciting to see more people completing the LUFT! Congrats to all the folks who did the Ascent Fitness guided LUFT walking program!

21.01.2022 Its a heck of a Winter were having! This lot headed out for a stroll into Blackstone Heights. Great to see water coming back in to Lake Trevallyn!

20.01.2022 Some great shots of Autumn here from the St Leonards to Youngtown section of the LUFT!

20.01.2022 Great pics from one of the many picturesque sections along the LUFT!

19.01.2022 Some pics in here of a re-routed section of the LUFT! With State Reserves closed at present, Kate Reed Reserve is off limits for now. But there are some lovely off-trail sections to explore instead while still staying on the urban fringe. A perfect interim solution!

17.01.2022 Wow! What a fantastic account of one walkers guided tour of the LUFT! Lauras blog is also full of great accounts of her walks that - just like the LUFT - are in everyday spaces in Launceston.... All going well, downloadable maps of the LUFT are on their way to Local Government websites. Until then a guided tour is on offer with Ascent Fitness with the next 10-session program (like Laura describes it) commencing on Saturday, May 23rd.

17.01.2022 The Ravenswood section of the LUFT put on a show this morning! Check out these lush green spaces in the east of the City.

17.01.2022 Lookie here! Got the story almost right. The LUFT hasnt been donated to a Rotary club. The Great Lonnie Stomp (an event that happens on the LUFT) has and has been reborn as part of the The Launceston Walking Festival. :-) But the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about, so well take it!

16.01.2022 No surprise to see this event deferred until later in the year. The LUFT will be there waiting!

16.01.2022 And its a happy third anniversary of the first formal completion of the LUFT! This intrepid bunch completed the 100km course across 10 sessions with Ascent Fitness and this remains an annual program. Although the course has changed since that pioneering first effort (check out the pics for whats changed!), the LUFT is settling in to being a great personal fitness challenge, is connecting communities and, with The Launceston Walking Festival scheduled for October, will see... more folks out there. Go LUFT!

15.01.2022 Ascent Fitness was out on the LUFT this morning in wet and chilly conditions. But a walk like this underscores one of the LUFTs key features: it can be used all year round, regardless of the weather. And, after all, theres no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes!

14.01.2022 Looks like a couple of folks got themselves a good stroll on the LUFT this morning from St Leonards to Relbia!

13.01.2022 Along the LUFT, there are easy, flat, urban bits and harder, rough hilly bits. By a quirk of geography, all the hardest rough bits are all in one continuous 10km section from Summerdale to Riverside! Check out these pics of what that section is like!

13.01.2022 And its great to see others singing the praises of the LUFT!

12.01.2022 Some spectacular scenes from the LUFT over the weekend! This stretch kicked off in Ravenswood and went through to St Leonards via Waverley Lake.

11.01.2022 A great account of the stretch of the LUFT from Mowbray to Newnham. Great to see the pedestrian refuge on the Mowbray Connector back in place!

11.01.2022 For the first day of Winter, the LUFT looked like it was on song! These pics from the most Northerly section of the LUFT through Newnham and Rocherlea.

10.01.2022 Plenty of folks getting their LUFT fix this weekend!

10.01.2022 Some great adaptation on the LUFT in these rare times in this session! With the LUFT being 100km and Greater Launceston being a dynamic area, temporary closures of parts of the LUFT from time to time is to be expected. At these times, we all do what keeps us safe. Rather follow the proclaimed LUFT path simply because it is on a map, follow any directions and reconnect with the LUFT when it is safe to do so.

09.01.2022 Fantastic scenes this morning as Ascent Fitness commences its annual series of walks around the LUFT! This session covered Tailrace Park to Invermay. A nice, flat section to start with!

09.01.2022 As the LUFT becomes more widely known. and seen as a great thing to be using, it means that more people will find themselves in parts of Greater Launceston they might not normally be in. The Rocherlea Old Rail Trail is a great piece of pedestrian and cycling infrastructure through nice bushland and some water features with great potential but, sadly, being on the urban fringe and with no lighting, can be a dumping ground. It is hoped that, in time, the increased visitation to less-used parts pf the LUFT will have a passive - but positive - effects on anti-social behaviour and crime (the studies say it does).

07.01.2022 Walking alongside Lake Trevallyn is usually a highlight on the LUFT, but with recent maintenance works on the Trevallyn Dam, the water levels had been low. It was great to see things returning to their normal appearances!

07.01.2022 And another group stepping off to start their own LUFT adventure! And one of them is 5 years old! Were you setting off on a 102km walk in 10km chunks at 5?!

06.01.2022 These peeps tore up a fair chunk of the LUFT today, striding it out from Kings Meadows to Blackstone Heights!

06.01.2022 Ok, LUFT fans. Its time to spend a few minutes (and we all have the time right now!) to support the nomination in the Great Regional City Challenge. Rotary Club of Central Launceston has put a bid in for a slice of $100,000 to go to upgrades on the LUFT. And thats where you come in! All you need do is 1) hit the link below, 2) find the LUFT project 3) vote for Option #19 and Option #16 (in that order). Job done!... https://launcestontogether.com.au//the-great-regional-city See more

05.01.2022 From these snaps, it looks like a short stroll through Blackstone Heights on the LUFT. A peach of a day for it, too!

05.01.2022 Need a challenge? There are now fastest walking times for non-stop (i.e. not leaving the course) completion of the 102km LUFT! Because of the topography, the times are likely to remain significantly different in each direction. Think you've got a quicker time? Let us know! In the direction of the LUFT waymarkers: 21 hours 34 minutes... Against the direction of the waymarkers: 19 hours 13 minutes See more

05.01.2022 Ascent Fitness is running a guided walking program around the LUFT, starting on May 23rd! See the link below for all the details.

04.01.2022 Not only great scenes from the LUFT but also a bit of re-routing as well! With the 102km LUFT being on roads, streets, parks and reserves, it is understandable that from time to time, parts of the official LUFT can be blocked temporarily. When it is, its a chance to explore new places as you find a safe way to move around the blockage and rejoin the LUFT on the other side!

04.01.2022 A great little write-up about the LUFT in The Examiner Newspaper, Launceston today! Great work by Rotary Club of Central Launceston for their support and good luck with their bid for upgrades to the LUFT in Greater Cities Regional Challenge and also for The Launceston Walking Festival that is sceduled on the LUFT on October 3 and 4. You can all help that by voting for the LUFT in the competition!... Thank you, Nic for sharing!

03.01.2022 Some serious path work happening along the LUFT in Newnham Reserve at the moment! The temporary path has been laid down to allow equipment access to the earthworks happening up the hill. The path will return to normal after the work is done. Pics by Laura

01.01.2022 Great stuff, you shiny diamonds! 500 followers of this little thing we call the LUFT!

01.01.2022 ANZAC Day is a good a day as any for a walk and a think along the LUFT. Nice to see signs out there that, even though ANZAC Day was very different this year, folks were taking the time to spend a moment and reflect. #anzacdayathome #lestweforget

01.01.2022 Anyone keen to join a group walk around the LUFT in 10 x 10km bits?
