23.01.2022 As Edmund Bourne says in "The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook", relaxation is more than unwinding in front of the TV...the type of relaxation that makes a difference with anxiety is the regular, daily practice of some form of deep relaxation...Progressive Muscle Relaxation is a systematic technique for achieving a deep state of relaxation."

21.01.2022 One thing I tell people is that you can be skinnier, weigh less, drop a dress size but at what cost? And, will this really, truly make you happy? We often compare ourselves to celebrities, athletes, actors and singers who are the thin ideal but what we do not see is the lengths they go to in order to obtain and sustain their body weight and size. Look after your body, and think about good healthy practices, no matter what your size.... #Psychology #healthybody #healthymindandbody #lookafteryourbody #behappy #dontcompare

19.01.2022 If we keep focusing on what we cannot do, we potentially will feel more and more depressed and deflated. Try to focus on what can do, to lower the risk of thinking and believing you are hopeless. You got this! #psychology ... #psychologist #focus #limitations #hopelessness See more

15.01.2022 Feeling frustrated, anxious or stressed? Try taking 10 deep abdominal breaths - slowly breathe in to your diaphragm muscle (deep down in the lower part of your belly) for 5 counts.....hold your breath for 5 counts.....then slowly breath out for 5 counts.

11.01.2022 If you are living with Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or Eating Disorder etc., you are not insane or crazy or stupid. You are living with a health condition , a mental health condition. Just like any physical health condition (Diabetes, high blood pressure etc) a mental health condition needs to be managed with care, respect, proper treatment and compassion.

03.01.2022 Many people may feel concerned about having a video session with a therapist, and will stop having therapy sessions as they feel it may not be the same. As a therapist I have felt honoured and appreciated that my clients have allowed me into their homes (via video), so I can continue to support them. And therapy has continued to be similar (to having sessions in the office), except you are in the comfort of your own home. It is important to look after one’s mental health, especially during these difficult times. So please consider continuing to have support from your psychologist and ask yourself ‘what am I worried about?’ It may be worthwhile talking about this with your therapist.

01.01.2022 One way of working on being motivated to make changes in your life and live a more meaningful life, is to listen to your Values and let them guide you. Dr Russ Harris (from the book ‘The Happiness Trap’), gives us an idea of how to get in touch with your values. Ask yourself these questions: Deep down inside, what is important to you? What do you want your life to be about? What sort of person do you want to be? ... What sort of relationships do you want to build? If you weren’t struggling with feelings, what would you be channelling your time and energy into doing? #psychology #psychologist #yourvalues #feelings #whatisimportant
