25.01.2022 He will always get in the water, whatever chance he gets. I snapped this photo in the last minute of shooting with @moniquemahaliaphotography the other day after he spent 5 minutes jumping in all the puddles up to the lookout , the second photo is from April of 2019... how time has flown! This little guy is driving me nuts today, I’m pretty sure I’ve aged a year or two from today’s shenanigans... trying hard to focus on the fact that I love his adventurous spirit (I really really do!) and the fact that I get to skip the bedtime routine tonight () while I go photograph a beautiful maternity session in a new location... would you like me to share some bts footage from tonight?

25.01.2022 Feeling so very grateful tonight as I feed Frida to sleep what a beautiful, chaotic, tiring, wondrous time of life; this season of our lives with little kids at home. Doing my best to soak up every minute of every day (even the days that feel about 100 hours long), because I know these are the golden years and I don’t want to miss out on one little thing

24.01.2022 What a dreamy shoot from last night... couldn’t choose just one photo to share... such a magical session, with the most insane sunset at the end. 23.01.2022 Fingers crossed this rain holds out so I can finally get out and photograph some families this weekend the last three weekends I’ve had to reschedule my sessions due to the rain and I’m missing my family shoots! So many beautiful families are booked in to be photographed over the next two months, I’m so very grateful for those who have entrusted me to document this chapter of their life

23.01.2022 May I always remember these slow, relaxed days with my kids. The ones where we get in the car and explore somewhere new, we eat hot chips for lunch, bicker over who gets to eat which piece of watermelon, make castles, swing on the swings, jump on the trampoline, and I get to watch the kids play make believe. They say the days are slow and the years are fast, and boy are they right. Two-ish weeks left until our first baby starts school and I’m lapping up every last moment of having her home with me everyday of the week : @moniquemahaliaphotography edited by me.

10.01.2022 Poppy Got back from holidays late last night and are heading to Frozen the musical tonight! To say Isla is excited is a bit of an understatement... I feel like she’s been waiting for this moment her whole life. She’s currently in her Elsa costume, listening to frozen music, painting a frozen figurine in preparation for tonight Now to go and unpack a weeks worth of dirty laundry and finally get around to organising all their Christmas presents... wish me luck!

09.01.2022 Sunset with the fam On a very real note I had some very specific plans I wanted out of our trip to the beach yesterday. Yes, I wanted to spend time as a family, but I also wanted to experiment with some different ideas I’d had for a session (sorry kids for being my guinea pigs all the time ). But we got there, and the waves were big and thunderous, and the kids were terrified. There were tears, the kids did NOT want to go along with my plan, and Isla wasn’t keen on takin...g off her unicorn mask she’d just made, and Felix did NOT want to go anywhere near the water. But once I gave up on my plans and decided to just be led by them and what they wanted to do, the tears stopped and the kids had a ball. I tell all my families that my sessions are 100% kid led, and I am so passionate about this, as it will always end in a more enjoyable experience for all, and will create the best photos. Let go of your expectations, shake off the stresses of wanting the best photos, and just focus on having a beautiful time with your kids, and I guarantee you, it’ll be a beautiful session that will result in cherished memories and gorgeous images

09.01.2022 Feeling the pang of our kiddos growing up today. Our car had to be dropped off to be serviced, and so we all got up early, hopped in the car & dropped Isla off at her cousin’s to be taken to school. After dropping the car off, Dave, Felix, Frida and I went out for brekkie and as we sat there I just missed life a little when the kids were littler and we had less on. I got taken right back to our time in Michigan, where we arrived in Grand Rapids, the snow making our toes freez...e, and we sat in this cute little cafe where Felix was newly one and Isla was an adorable 3 year old. Life felt a little slower, and I took more time to take in the details, and record the laughter, the cute sentences, the funny drawings that were made. Sitting in the car while both kids sleep, reflecting on motherhood & that perhaps I’ll look back on this time poignantly too... I’ll wonder where the time went, and marvel at how little our kids were.

06.01.2022 I often arrive at a session not having met you before, and as we spend time together it’s my hope to capture just a small essence of who your family is just a snapshot in time for you to treasure for years to come. So grateful to all my families that trust me to document who you are in this season

06.01.2022 Our last few days have been spent out on these rocks, playing in the water, spending time with cousins... refreshing and healing for the soul. 04.01.2022 I heard about Aesop’s fable, the wind & the sun last night, where they have a competition to see who can remove a man’s coat. The wind blows hard on the man, which only makes the man hold onto his coat tighter. The sun then comes and gently coats him with warmth, warmth, and more warmth until the man takes off his coat. The moral of the story is that kindness, gentleness and persuasion win, where force fails. Dave & I looked at one another after hearing the fable and immediately brought it back to me parenting kindness, gentleness & persuasion over force, what a beautiful way to approach bringing up your kids (I’ve popped the fable in my stories for you to read, if you’re interested.)
