25.01.2022 Exploration of natural light and cross ventilation; the key focus in this fun new concept.

25.01.2022 Concept Design #avalonbeachresidenceII @lauracook.com.au A substantial alterations and additions project nestled high up in the trees. This concept includes alterations to the existing residence including a first floor addition, a new pool and a new detached garage with studio over.... The site is beautiful - yet challenging - with a number of restrictions that will push us to further work through and refine the design. In particular, we need to work through site slopes vs maximum building heights, maximum building heights vs ceiling heights/junction details, building envelopes vs roof configurations and site setbacks vs easements. Each project presents itself with various limitations to set the boundaries for us as designers; and I am really excited to further develop this concept to see this exciting new project resolved @ Avalon, New South Wales, Australia

20.01.2022 ‘The details are not the details. They make the design’. Charles Eames A snap shot of all the lovely details which make up stage one of our warehouse conversion project Our clients moved into their new office space over the weekend; and we are moving forward to stage two of the build. I am looking forward to sharing more with you over the coming weeks

20.01.2022 Finishes selections. The simplistic pared-back approach to materiality and detailing was intentional to elevate our client’s vibrant and playful branding. We will be introducing a layer of hand painted signage, paint/polyurethane colours to joinery & doors, and artworks throughout to instill their brand into the neutral space.

20.01.2022 Polished concrete floors. When working with an existing concrete slab you can never really be sure of the outcome, but we couldn’t be happier with the result after grinding back and polishing the slab at our warehouse conversion project. The warm, earthy tones are beautiful

13.01.2022 A generous yet sympathetic addition to an original brick bungalow on Sydney’s North Shore. This concept explores the connection of the original house and garage to give our client a contemporary and expansive open plan living area; with minimal impact on the original structure (existing footprint highlighted in grey). @ Roseville, New South Wales, Australia

13.01.2022 Contours. Amidst the madness of putting together the final documentation for our Roseville project last night, I paused for a moment to admire the beauty in the sites locality contour. Isn’t nature beautiful?

08.01.2022 Our North Narrabeen project was lodged with the Private Certifier for Construction Certificate approval yesterday When I meet with new clients I am often asked how long the approval process will take. It’s a tricky one to answer as every project is different. I usually suggest (for a straight forward Alterations and Additions project) about 12 months from the day we meet to the day you have approval to start work on site. I first met my North Narrabeen clients 12 months ag...o (almost to the day!) and fingers and toes crossed we’ll be ready to start on site in only a few short weeks. Here is a brief outline of the project to give you an idea of the process: I first met my clients in May 2018. After receiving a full brief from the client I presented my Concept Design and together we worked through the Design Development process. The final design was DA approved through Northern Beaches Council as an Alterations and Additions to an existing single story residence. The property is in both a Flood Zone and a Bush Fire Zone. The following consultants were engaged during the approval process: Surveyor Landscape Architect Arborist Bush Fire Consultant Hydraulic Engineer Structural Engineer Private Certifier For further information on any of our services please get in touch with me at [email protected] I am looking forward to seeing, and sharing some progress photos of this one in the coming months

07.01.2022 Ensuite waterproofing complete #newportresidence @lauracook.com.au Regardless of size, the most common feedback from my clients during a build is how much they had underestimated the level of detail required by the builder during the construction phase. A builder will require a full set of documentation (drawings, schedules and specifications) to manage his trades on site. Changes to these details during the build can result in additional costs and a longer timeframe; and... whilst most clients have a fair idea on how they want their project to look, they haven’t considered critical information such as installation/labor costs, lead times, setouts, junction details, alignments and product specifications to name a few. And whilst most clients are afraid to spend the money on a designer upfront - I believe that it’s far better to spend the time resolving the details on paper than trying to resolve them on site! @ Newport, New South Wales, Australia

05.01.2022 Collaboration. - - - -... We believe that a collaborative approach is integral to any successful design solution. - We are currently working closely alongside our lovely clients on this alterations and additions project to further develop and refine our initial concept; using external elevations, sections and 3D modeling to assist in the planning process. This holistic approach ensures that no detail is left unresolved. - This is such an enjoyable project to be apart of and I am really excited to see how it evolves #northavalonresidenceIII by @lauracook.com.au @ Avalon, New South Wales, Australia See more

04.01.2022 Concept research for an upcoming alterations and additions project which will include the design of a beautiful new pool reaching out toward the treetops.

02.01.2022 DA documentation complete I have been flat out over the past few weeks juggling multiple projects and I am really looking forward to seeing a number of them begin on site in the new year! Swipe left for a detailed description of documents required for this approval through Council. Hopefully this will give some of you a better understanding of what is involved if you are looking at doing building work in the near future. @ Roseville, New South Wales, Australia

02.01.2022 Entry foyer concept. In addition to re-designing the kitchen, living, dining and master suite of this lovely interior project, our client wanted to simplify and resolve their existing entry foyer which currently links the outdoors with the indoors, the garage with the main residence and the main residence with the detached studio. By proposing a concealed pivot door into the garage, adjusting the current stair orientation and providing a continuation of colours and materials we have created a simplified entry foyer which celebrates the scale and direction of this active intersection. @ Avalon, New South Wales, Australia

01.01.2022 White on white Whilst we all know I love a bit of white; there are a number of things to consider before painting over absolutely everything! It is really important that people feel comfortable within a space. A warehouse conversion can run the risk of feeling cold and a little harsh, so in this instance I have specified a ‘warm’ white and applied it to walls with texture and direct access to soft natural lighting. I have also introduced a considerable amount of natural timber to break up the overall space and introduce a further sense of warmth I am looking forward to sharing the end result

01.01.2022 Looking forward to seeing this little project completed in the coming weeks #newportresidence @lauracook.com.au
