23.01.2022 What is art play? It’s exactly what it sounds like. Simply playing with art materials and having fun in seeing what you create. When you take away all preconceived ideas, all the overthinking and worry over skill and technique when it comes to art, you can have a lot of fun and freedom and end up with some amazing spontaneous creations. And if you don’t end up with something marvellous? It doesn’t matter! Art play is all about letting your inhibitions go and giving your inner... child free reign for a while. Just between you and me though, some of the most evocative and striking pieces of art I’ve created were born, or at least begun, during a good art play session. I can also guarantee that during your art play, you will wind up learning a range of art techniques without even realising it. As well as being a lot of fun, art play can also be a fantastic outlet to direct any thoughts and feelings you may be struggling to express in more conventional ways. I am an introvert by nature and have expressed myself through art for as long as I can remember. For me, it’s a way to let the build-up of inner dialog and emotions out without the need to verbalise it aloud to anyone. Art can also be a fabulous outlet for extroverts and people with lots of energy and lots to say all of that energy can be honed and focused into the creation of something beautiful and it can be a very calming and quieting process. Ultimately, art play is for everyone, not just for children. I am passionate about bringing art play to adults because it’s something that many people leave behind in childhood. I hear so many adults tell me that they aren’t creative or artistic, that they can’t draw/paint etc. I want to change that way of thinking! I’m making it my personal quest to reintroduce the joy of playing with art to as many adults as I can. Watch this space for workshops coming soon!

06.01.2022 Working on some printed paper for a new project idea :)

04.01.2022 I recently started drawing again for the first time in around 10 years. I abandoned this form of art long ago in favor of working more freely in paint and mixed media and it feels really right to pick it up again, like reuniting with an old friend. I'm happy and surprised that my fingers still seem to know what to do. This one is an early work in progress for practice, I'll post the finished piece once I'm happy with it. :)
