23.01.2022 Broccoli sprouts: an example of when food can outweigh the benefits of supplements. Broccoli sprouts happen to contain an incredible phytochemical known as sulforaphane, where extensive studies have demonstrated it to be anti-cancer, brain enhancing, anti-oxidant promoting and good for the heart, amongst a multitude of other benefits (full list below). The best bit? No expensive supplement is needed to reap these benefits. The multiple benefits of sulforaphane include: anti...-cancer: protects against breast, colon, prostate, skin, lung and stomach reduces the risk of Parkinson’s, dementia and Alzheimer’s protects against heart disease detoxes heavy metals promotes detoxification boosts brain function and concentration promotes weight loss enhances liver function reduces inflammation and pain reduces hair loss increases the function of the master antioxidant, glutathione (both in the brain and the plasma) It is incredible to know that Broccoli sprouts contain up to 100 times higher concentrations of sulforaphane than mature broccoli and other veggies! The most ideal time to consume broccoli sprouts is when they are 3-4 days old, when they exude a pleasant bitter and contain the highest levels of glucoraphanin (that converts to sulforaphane). A potent level of this phytochemical means a greater capacity to enhance the body’s immune system and detoxification. 23.01.2022 Still taking thyroid medication and you still feel like you felt before you started taking it? (Low energy, brain fog, weight not budging, sluggish digestion, feeling the cold), then it's obvious that it's NOT WORKING, despite your TSH being in the "optimal range". . If you want to start feeling better then you have to figure out why its not working - it could be nutrient deficiencies (to help make or convert inactive T4 to active T3), gut issues (inflammation/leaky gut maki...ng antibodies worse thereby exacerbating symptoms), adrenal stress (adrenal overload inhibits thyroid hormone conversion), exposure to environmental toxins (majority of them are endocrine disruptors), emotional neglect (not speaking your truth), impaired liver function (majority of inactive T4 gets converted into T3 in the liver) or perhaps even just that your dosage is wrong (that is between you and your doctor!) . It's becoming apparent that most women that come to me have some sort of thyroid issue going on and have been either not diagnosed, misdiagnosed or medically mismanaged for years. Often they are told that their thyroid results are fine and so it must be in their heads. . If you think you have a thyroid problem but can't get anyone to listen to you, if you know you have one and have been diagnosed but don't want medication or if you know you have one, have been diagnosed and are on medication but it's not working I CAN HELP YOU!!! . Unfortunately, thyroid issues do not "fix themselves". The longer you wait and do nothing, the more you may find yourself struggling to get out of bed, stressed to the max and walking around in a haze. . But it doesn't have to be this way. Imagine 12 months from now, how would you like to feel? Exhausted and overwhelmed or full of energy and vitality? It takes courage and a willingness to do the work, but it is entirely possible to eliminate these symptoms and not just live, but truly thrive. #thyroid #hypothyroid #naturopath #hashimotosdisease #thyroidhealing #holistichealth #naturalhealing #hypothyroid #autoimmunedisease #labtests # #thyroidsupport #endocrinology #healthandwellness #chronicillness #energy #fatigue #thyroidproblems #wellness #adrenalfatigue #sleep #chronicfatigue #stress #holistic

14.01.2022 Selenium is crucial nutrient for thyroid health, especially for converting inactive thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4) into its active form (T3). A deficiency of selenium can contribute to impaired conversion of T4 to T3, leading to hypothyroid symptoms. . Selenium is also vital for immune function, adequate metabolism and reducing oxidative stress. .... Selenium deficiency is common with those with digestive health issues causing poor absorption of nutrients, including Crohn's, Ulcerative colitis and chronic infections. . Great sources of selenium include: brazil nuts, crimini mushrooms, cod, tuna, sardines, salmon, scallops, chicken, eggs, shiitake mushrooms, lamb, and turkey. . . . . #thyroid #hypothyroid #naturopath #hashimotosdisease #thyroidhealing #holistichealth #naturalhealing #hypothyroid #autoimmunedisease #selenium #thyroidsupport #health #healthandwellness #nutrition #energy #diet #wellness #adrenalfatigue #stress #holistic

13.01.2022 My top 5 foods to help heal your thyroid xx

13.01.2022 With around 200 million people worldwide suffering from hypothyroidism, it has become one of the world's most prevalent chronic hormonal condition. Half of those may be struggling with this insidious condition without even knowing that they have, as their doctor may have only tested for TSH and if their labs came back "normal" then they may be told that the symptoms of fatigue, weight gain, depression and brain fog are all in their head. This is a serious problem in my opini...on. Normal lab ranges are determined by the statistical average of the population getting tests out of the lab, therefore not the healthiest segment of the population. When we look at optimal ranges, we want your results to to look like a bunch of healthy people who function optimally and feel great. Does your doctor test all of the above for you? TSH: Thyroid-stimulating hormone is released from your pituitary gland to communicate with your thyroid. If your TSH is high, it’s like your brain is shouting at your thyroid to work harder. Free T4: is mostly metabolically inactive in the body and has to be converted to T3 to be usable. Free T3: is the active thyroid hormone from the conversion of thyroxine Reverse T3: is the unusable form of T3 that becomes elevated due to chronic stress and high cortisol. TPO: High levels of thyroid antibodies show an autoimmune attack against the thyroid. Over 95% of people with Hashimoto's have detectable levels of TPO. TgAb: are produced by your body in response to the presence of thyroglobulin and are detected in over 80% of those with Hashimoto's. If you're looking for guidance to balance your thyroid you can check out the link in my bio. #thyroid #hypothyroid #naturopath #hashimotosdisease #thyroidhealing #holistichealth #naturalhealing #hypothyroid #autoimmunedisease #labtests # #thyroidsupport #healthandwellness #chronicillness #energy #fatigue #thyroidproblems #wellness #adrenalfatigue #sleep #chronicfatigue #stress #holistic

09.01.2022 Have you heard of the benefits of the Wim Hof method? . Wim Hof is the holder of 20 Guinness World Records for withstanding extreme temperatures. He has climbed Everest and Kilimanjaro in only shorts and shoes and stayed comfortably in ice baths for hours. . ... He has accomplished this by using a particular breathing technique that allows you to control the autonomous systems of the body. . Many of us are unconscious that we only take in small sips of air that enter just below the throat and we thus receive the same energy equal to that which we bring in. Hof understood that the more oxygen we can gather and hold in our bodies, the more powerful the body becomes. . Breathe properly and oxygen levels in the tissues surge and adrenaline floods the body, creating strength that we did not realise we had. Hof’s breathing technique helps pull in more oxygen than is usually needed, which stimulates the automatic nervous system. . Adrenaline increases strength, awareness, breathing rate, energy and body temperature. If you can control your adrenaline, as Hof claims, you can control your body. . Hof's method came under scientific scrutiny in 2012 when medical researchers in the Netherlands injected Hof with a toxin that normally causes an immune system response, including fever and sickness. Hof remained unaffected throughout the entire procedure and the researchers were astounded when the results showed the toxin had been cleared from his bloodstream. . He then taught 12 other subjects in Poland and had them go through the same procedure in 2014. . The results were the same; each patient was able to combat the toxin far more effectively than the ordinary person who had not learnt the breathing exercise. He has proved that anyone can learn and implement this method to reap the benefits. . 03.01.2022 Would you like to take the guesswork out what foods and household items are suitable for you, individually? Food Bio-compatibility Testing is a simple, non-invasive test that requires a small sample of hair to identify which foods and household products (over 500+) are suitable for your body and which ones are causing inflammation. I generally recommend this hair test for any new client that comes to see me as it allows us to get as close to the cause of the problem of dis...-ease, not just treating symptoms. This test is far more comprehensive than any other hair testing, as it covers over 500 items, as opposed to the usual 90 items offered by other hair tests. Who is it suitable for? Digestive issues: IBS, SIBO, Reflux, Indigestion Fatigue Weight loss Headaches and migraines Chronic allergies Arthritis, pain, and inflammation Skin problems, including psoriasis and eczema Children with behavioural issues and digestive issues Find out how to get started here: https://linktr.ee/laurajadenaturopathy #thyroid #hashimotos #womenshealth #naturopath #glutenfree #weightloss #SIBO #fatigue #perth #holisticmedicine #perthisok #naturalhealth #allergies #hormones #foodsensitivity #foodintolerance #IBS # asthma # foodtesting #foodismedicine #diet #nutrition #hypothyroidism #plantbased #health #foodguide #realfood #healthspo

01.01.2022 Iodine deficiency is the most common cause of hypothyroidism worldwide. But did you know that both too little and too much iodine can be harmful for your thyroid? Too little iodine can cause the thyroid to enlarge, leading to a goiter. As iodine is water-soluble, it works with the lymph, travels to every cell in the body, works as a disinfectant, balances the metabolism, and creates electrical balance in the body. Besides kelp and dulse, the foods that are high in iodine ...are asparagus, blueberries, Brussels sprouts, carrots, coconuts, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, kale, leaf lettuce, mustard greens, okra, oats, onions, potatoes, all the sea vegetables, spinach, strawberries, Swiss chard, tomatoes, and watermelon. Cool tip: Dulse flakes may be a better choice for supplying iodine than kelp because dulse has more manganese than kelp, and manganese is an important co-factor for the functioning of iodine in your body. But when can iodine become harmful? Excess iodine can block the activity of an enzyme called thyroid peroxidase (TPO), which is required for the adequate production of thyroid hormones. However this is most likely to occur in the case of concurrent selenium deficiency. That's why it is imperative to test for both iodine and selenium status to ensure that you are getting the right balance of nutrients for your thyroid. My top 3 ways to accurately test iodine include: 1. 24-hour urine iodine 2. Serum thyroglobulin (a high reading indicates iodine deficiency) 3. hair iodine (to monitor long term iodine status) I hope that clears up some of the confusion around Iodine.
