25.01.2022 The future of work is: - Remote-first - Inclusive - Equal pay ... - The gig economy (amiright @gigsuperau?!) - Flexible I’m so keen to talk about this topic in more depth in season 3 of @atableatthebackpodcast, but I also thought I’d talk about my approach to remote-first as a UX writer, freelancer, consultant and contractor. Stay tuned as I share some tips on working this way over the next couple of weeks (you guys were keen to know more when I did that insta poll!) * No, I don’t work from Cape Bruny lighthouse. . . . . . . #employeeexperience #futureofwork #designthinking #contentfirstdesign #humancentreddesign #hcd #ux #cx #userexperience #customerexperience #uxwriter #uxwriting #uxtips #copytips #uxcopy #ui #uicopy #productcontent #productcontentstrategy #productcontentstrategist #contentstrategist #podcast #podcasting
25.01.2022 I’m right where I need to be: ‘Long-form writing and UX writing require totally different skills. Long-form writing is about getting people to keep reading. UX writing is about getting out of the way.’- John Saito (he’s basically the grand-daddy of modern ux writing) (I took this on Saturday arvo bevs and footy with my fam @brickfactorybar)
22.01.2022 Oh heeeey! Long time, no intros or something like that. (and all the social media people say that every third one should be a business-focused thing Soz that’s just not me haha) Anywayyyyy... Laura Luck here lover of the alphabet and pursuer of great user experiences! It’s my job to help tech companies sound more human.... Because you know your business back-to-front and you’re pretty much a genius when it comes to the tech side of things But you need someone to talk with your customers, test the digital product and fill content gaps with customer-centric comms. I’m hi, that’s my thing! Your users and customers are here for a good time let’s make it a long time, too. (This little thang of my name was made my @adored.studio last year )
22.01.2022 It’s never just about one word or one button in isolation. If you’re working on (or creating!) a product, I recommend doing this to make the experience smoother for a user, using the content: - First, walk away. You’ve been staring at this screen for too long.... - Then put the whole customer/user flow up on a wall with post-its. - Ask the team to identify gaps (everyone will come at it with different priorities and you’ll see many different perspectives) - Step back and look at the whole story, the whole narrative and the whole flow. - Is it the story you want to tell? - Does it align with customer and business goals? What comes before and what come after? That’s the power of a UX writer. We are across the whole experience, we’re NOT just someone who writes microcopy. The words are the easy part Easy as pie image by Tyler Spangler See more
22.01.2022 Business owner. Mummy. Writer. Wife. Creative dreamer.... Friend. Podcaster. Pop-culture nerd. Book enthusiast. We can be all of these things and still deserve a place at the table. You shouldn’t need to hide your life when you work, and they don’t have to be mutually exclusive. . . . . . . #ux #cx #workingmum #worklifeflow #userexperience #ui #customerexperience #uicopy #inappcopy #lmbdw #womeninbusiness #startupcreative #startupaustralia #circlein See more
17.01.2022 hello! Happy new year. . My thoughts today are: I hope this rain we’re having in Aus sticks around and we can start the rebuild (of ecosystems, homes, businesses and the government). ... I, like many of you, am changing a lot of things about the way I consume, where I put my $$ and the types of leaders and businesses I want to support. I’m not perfect but I’m trying to be the good. . In my neck of the woods, my little business is ticking along really nicely, I’ve moved into a coworking space a few days a week and I want to start sharing more about #uxwriting again. . But heads up: I probably won’t be posting on here as much. You can find me on Twitter @_LauraLuck (I’m trying it out...) or sign up to my email list! . Let’s be better in 2020: better advocates for our customers / users and better humans for our planet. . . I hope you are well, insta friends Pic by @lucyjenn_
17.01.2022 Come Thursday, I’m putting these bad boys down for the rest of year! . Today and tomorrow I’m tying up client work and then having a break for a couple of weeks (during which I’ll probably be nailing down my focus for 2020... things are changing over here folks, stay tuned)! ... . Thanks so much for being here. This business has changed so much in 2019 and I’m so grateful for the friends I’ve made.
15.01.2022 If you don’t assign your brand a personality, then people will assign it for you. Have control, get clear on values, mission, pitch, messaging, tone and voice. ... This is part of almost every single project I work on. A non-negotiable for my clients. And honestly, it’s usually the most valuable thing I work on for them, too. . . . . . . #podcast #auspodcast #australianpodcast #podcaster #ux #uxwriter #uxwriting #cx #cxwriter #userexperience #customerexperience #designthinking #humancentreddesign #humancentredcontent #contentstrategy #contentdesign #uxdesign #ui #uicopy #uxcopywriter #productowner #founder #startupaustralia #startupcreative #startupstrong #ladystartups #ladystartup See more
14.01.2022 Isn’t this how you storyboard? On the outside of a random 1800s brick house?
11.01.2022 Iconic. (Minus the ciggie )
10.01.2022 This is a very philosophical image but I’m gonna see if I can apply it to the way I write customer comms... 1. Do the research. Listen to calls. Read the emails. Talk to humans. Gather data. 2. Take a seccy to let it all soak in.... 3. Write the first draft from the customer’s perspective and then flip it around to solve their problem it’s kind of a backwards way to get there, but it works. Beautiful image by @morganharpernichols
10.01.2022 I’ve always associated colours with people... When I thought of certain family members or tried to visualise their name in my mind, I would instead see vivid sea green, whereas others might be earthy oranges or reds. Before you think I’m super weird (jokes I am still weird)... ... I brought this up with my therapist recently, and she told me it’s an actual thing for some people. It’s called Synesthesia and it’s basically a crossed-wiring of the senses in the brain (the cerebral cortex to be exact). For some (like me), it’s a linking of colours with people or words, for others it’s smells with touch, or seeing film reels when listening to music (legit, I think I have that one too).I actually think this has played a huge part in me choosing this career path UX is such a mix of words and design and perceptions and collaboration and empathy. It’s not just wireframes and strings and programs. Anyway, thanks for coming on this journey of self-discovery with me haha do you have any quirks like this? Please tell me I’m not alone here
09.01.2022 Thank you everyone for such a wonderful year! I’ve really enjoyed connecting with you, making new friends and sharing this space on the internet talking about the work I love. I’m ending it on a high with some new groovy logos and icons (by new fave @lucyjenn_ ). Things are going to be quite different next year (I may have mentioned that already haha but it’s in a real good way). I’m going on holiday mode as of right now so I won’t be on here for the next few weeks. Happy holidays friends! @ Hobart, Tasmania
09.01.2022 No I’m not releasing my first album but I am planning on kicking *these* goals right into the posts this year: - Read ~50 books (4 down!) - Do a screenwriting course (bucket list kinda thing) - Start drawing / painting again (go to classes)... - Explore someplace new each month - Travel home to see family and friends at least once every 8 weeks - Try to reduce my impact on the planet a new way each month - Spend more uninterrupted time with my girl - Have more date nights with my husband! What are yours?
08.01.2022 If any @nathanwpylestrangeplanet spoke to me on a cellular level, it would be this one. #remotework . Very excited to release Season 3 of @atableatthebackpodcast early 2020 where we’ll be speaking about all things remote work, #employeeexperience and #ethicsindesign watch this space.
04.01.2022 No one: Absolutely no one: Me: You guys have been asking about my UX / CX research process so we covered it in the latest episode of @atableatthebackpodcast! ... HAHA OHH THE IRONY: But really, you should be asking your customers about their pains, desires and objections on the reg. Interview them to tap into their voice and then use it in your comms it’s one of the best ways to connect with your audience. In the latest episode of the poddy, we chat about my real-life research process and why it’s the tits to talk to your customers and then actually do something with the data you collect. 03.01.2022 Tools down Well, in 1.5 weeks, anyway. This little fam is going on vacay. Yay! (Holy shit all that rhymed, I’m impressed with myself.) Just thought I’d give everyone the heads up in case you wanna book something in a couple new services might be popping up soon too! But better be quick, I’ve just gone and booked up October...
03.01.2022 Oh my gosh, this speaks to me on a cellular level. I never remember passwords and rely on my saved passwords with the facial recognition thing on my iPhone MICROCOPY TIP: if you’re creating a product, you need to think of the little error messages for forgotten passwords. ... Don’t make them patronising (I’ll show you an email later this week of this ) and make sure the bright red message isn’t showing up until the user actually finishes typing the password out.
