25.01.2022 MISO DRESSING . . Obsessed is an understatement when it comes to this delicious miso dressing I use it on top of salads, roast veg, with BBQ meat, everything! I always make douple as it goes pretty fast in our house .... Miso dressing: - 1 1/2 tbsp organic miso paste - 1 1/4 tbsp honey - 2 tbsp rice vinegar - 1 tbsp of sesame oil - 1 1/2 tbsp fresh lime juice - 1 small knob of grated ginger - 1 tbsp of water . Throw all ingredients into a jar & shake! Store in the fridge Hot tip - boil water and add the 1 tbsp of water to the honey to melt before adding to the jar for even distribution of honey throughout the dressing. . This dressing is delicious & much better than store bought sesame dressings which are usually full of added sugars, preservatives and additives. Enjoy! . . . . . #foodasmedicine #misodressing #tcm #acupuncture #herbalmedicine #avalon #newport #northernbeaches #healthlyeating See more

23.01.2022 PASSION FLOWER . I stumbled across this photo last night while looking back at our summer holiday & dreaming of warmer days We found so many native passion fruit vines while bush walking along the coast near Crescent Head . There are about 600 species of flowering passion fruit plants. ‘Passiflora’ the flower of the passion fruit plant has been used medicinally by many different cultures, including the Chinese & Native Americans, for its sedative effects. Passion flower i...s traditionally used for anxiety, insomnia, pain and menopausal symptoms to name a few. . Passion flower isn’t something I use a lot in my bespoke herbal formulas, as it’s not commonly used in TCM. But it is in a lot of pre-made supplements I use to help calm the mind, aid sleep and support the body during times of stress. . Isn’t she pretty?!?? . . . . . #passionflower #insomnia #stressrelief #herbalmedicine #tcm #acupuncture #chineseherbalmedicine #chineseherbs #avalon #crescenthead #newport @ Crescent Head, New South Wales See more

20.01.2022 PORRIDGE . This mornings porridge isn’t very visually appealing but it was oh so delicious! . I always feel my best when I start my day with a big bowl of warming porridge. Today I’m having cinnamon, banana & sultana porridge, topped with pepitas, sunflower seeds & a drizzle of honey ... . Oats are a great source of fibre & silica to keep your gut, skin & bones happy & healthy. If you have or are at risk of low bone density, oats are a great breakfast option. Oats are also known to reduce cholesterol and blood sugar levels. . From a Chinese medicine perspective, oats are warming, sweet and slightly bitter in nature. These properties help to strengthen the spleen-pancreas system and tonify qi production. These properties benefit digestion and ease abdominal bloating. Oat water has been traditionally used as an internal antiseptic to build immunity and to strengthen those who are weak and deficient. . . . . . . . . . . . #oats #porridge #breakfast #goodmorning #monday #food #tcm #chinesemedicine #traditionalchinesemdicine #herbalmedicine #foodasmedicine #acupuncture #acupuncturist #northernbeaches #avalon #newport See more

20.01.2022 HERBAL LINIMENTS . Herbal liniments are tinctures used topically to help temporarily ease aches & pains, increase blood flow and reduce inflammation . Woodlock is my go-to liniment for arthritis, chronic joint pain, sports injuries, muscular spasms, and sore & tired muscles. It really heats ups and gets the blood flow pumping !! Most of my patients being treated for pain relief will leave with the warming sensation of Woodlock over their problem areas to continue to trea...tment long after they have left the clinic . Woodlock consists of emu oil, which is a natural anti-inflammatory used for thousands of years by the Australian Aboriginals. It also has menthol, capsicum, camphor, methyl salicylate & turpentine oil . You can buy Woodlock from the Newport clinic . . . . . . . #herballiniments #emuoil #painrelief #jointpain #musclespasm #arthritis #massage #acupucture #tcm #chinesemedicine #traditionalchinesemedicine #backpain #newport #northernbeaches #sydney #avalon #naturalpainrelief See more

14.01.2022 ACUPUNCTURE FOR LABOUR PREPARATION . I often get full-term pregnant ladies booking in for their first time acupuncture appointment wanting to be ‘induced’. Unfortunately acupuncture doesn’t really work that way. . Acupuncture for labour preparation is most commonly weekly treatments starting from 36-37 weeks gestation until birth. Acupuncture doesn’t ‘induce’ labour, rather it is best described as preparing women’s bodies for childbirth & assisting women to go into sponta...neous labour. It is baby that decides when it’s the right time to come out by creating changes & hormonal ques. Luckily we have some amazing midwives out there spreading the word on acupuncture for labour preparation and encouraging their patients to seek acupuncture treatment from 36-37 weeks . My pre-birth treatments consist of massage over the lower-back, hips & glutes to soften pelvic muscles and create more space for Bub to descend into the pelvis. I then choose specific acupuncture points traditionally used to ripen the cervix, nourish qi & blood, calm the mind and encourage optimal foetal positioning. Depending on any symptoms that may be presenting, I may add in other acupuncture points, cupping and/or moxibustion. I send all my pregnant ladies home with an acupressure booklet on pain relief during childbirth with points to stimulate to continue treatment at home. . In this picture, a mum-to-be is enjoying some time on her front (for the first time in months!) while she receives a pre-birth treatment . . . . . . . #acupuncture #pregnancyacupuncture #prebirthacupuncture #acuounctureforlabourpreparation #maternityacupuncture #pregnancymassage #chinesemedicine #tcm #acupuncturist #womenshealth #northernbeaches #avalon #newport #monavale See more

13.01.2022 LUNG-7 (LU7) . . A very relevant acupuncture point as we come into cold & flu season. LU7 is the principle point for all conditions affecting the lungs, including cough, wheezing, shortness of breath & asthma. LU7 is also the confluence point for the Conception Vessel (CV). Use of this point therefore opens & regulates the The CV making it an important point for fertility & conception. .... I regularly use this point for patients trying to conceive & those with menstrual irregularities. It’s also my go to point for all acute & chronic respiratory conditions . . . . . . 02.01.2022 WINTER . According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) philosophy, winter is considered the full expression of ‘yin’. The yin principle emphasises one to become more receptive, introvert and storage-orientated. It is a time for slowing down, stillness and restoring energy. Although slow predominates the yin season, one must stay active enough to keep the joints and spine mobile and nourished with qi & blood circulation. . Winter, the season of the water element, involv...es the kidney & bladder organs as they control water metabolism. In TCM theory the concept of the kidney goes beyond the views of western physiology. The kidney, specifically kidney ‘jing’, is considered the root & foundation the the body. The kidney provides warmth, energy & sexuality, and governs the lower parts of the body, including the reproductive organs & function. . With shorter days and cooler temperatures, I encourage patients to pay extra attention & listen to their bodies. Draw warm baths more often and ensure you are getting adequate rest and internal nourishment through your diet. As the temperature drops externally it is important we pay close attention to warming ourselves internally. Winter is a time for eating slow cooked protein, root vegetables, hearty soups & whole grains. Ditch the cold breakfast smoothies & opt for warm cinnamon porridge or a bone and vegetable broth. . Bitter & salty foods are particularly appropriate in the cooler months as they provide a sinking & centering quality that encourages body warmth to delve deeper internally. Salty foods include miso, seaweed, soy sauce & barley, while bitter foods include turnip, celery, asparagus, quinoa, oats & citrus peels. Like anything, these flavours are best in moderation. Overeating salt can cause an over consumption of water & fluid retention placing added pressure on the kidney system. . So as the season transforms into winter where cold & darkness predominates, welcome your instinct to seek inner warmth, eat seasonally, rest & unwind... . . . . . #winter #eatseasonally #waterelement #acupuncture #tcm #herbalmedicine #kidney #bladder #newport #northernbeaches #acupuncturist #avalon See more
