25.01.2022 I've just clicked over 11 years in building online sustainability businesses and it's been one hell of a ride! There's been massive highs...like my very first sale, first five figure launch, first six figure year, first business sale, first coaching client, first national business award, first podcast episode, first e-course, first successful crowdfunding campaign, first time on national radio, first time on national prime time TV and so much more... And of course there's bee...n some lows too...the products that didn't sell, the course no-one wanted, the webinar with no sound (ooops!), the costly mistakes, the late nights, the coaching clients that weren't able to implement and didn't get the results. But I wouldn't trade the journey for anything. Entrepreneurship is a privilege, and creating a more sustainable world is what I love to do more than anything. These days I'm so proud to offer my wisdom from 11 years in eco business + 13 years working as an environmental engineer to my business coaching clients, all incredible entrepreneurs striving to make a bigger impact in our world. I'm also super excited to be presenting in the first ever entrepreneur summit and will share my best tips on how to package your expertise online into an offer that sells. For 3 days host Mel Bruce will bring you presentations from 18+ industry experts who have built successful eco businesses. 24.01.2022 Made my TV debut today talking about toxins in cookware. If you love the convenience of non stick pans but don't want a dose of PFAS with your stir fry check out Greenpan. They are PFAS free, made from recycled metals, have a coating derived from natural materials (sand), emit 60% less CO2 in the manufacturing process than traditional pans, withstand high temperatures, won't produce those toxic fumes when you accidentally overheat your pan and you can use them on gas, electri...c or induction cook tops. 21.01.2022 Have you ever come face to face with a techno-tantrum when you’ve wrangled the tablet, smartphone, computer or TV away from your child? Are you worried your child is becoming addicted to technology and you feel helpless about the situation? Are you trying your best to get your children outdoors and playing in nature, only to have to drag them away from their screens in order to do so?... If that sounds familiar (and I’ll raise my hand as we battle this in our household too), you’ll love this blog/podcast. I’m joined by Dr Kristy Goodwin, one of Australia’s leading digital parenting experts (and mum who also has to wrestle devices from her children’s clutches!) Kristy translates the latest research into practical and digestible information for parents trying to navigate the digital terrain with their kids (without telling you to ban the iPad, or unplug the TV). Kristy takes the guesswork and guilt out of raising kids in a digital world and I love it how she arms parents with facts, not fears about what young kids really need to thrive online and offline. Our kids will inherit a digital world. it’s here to stay. so we know digital abstinence is not the solution. Kristy’s here to help us find the solution that’s right for our families. 20.01.2022 I've always had a love hate affair with Halloween. A day which appears to revolve around sugar and cheap plastic decorations never sat well with me... But over the years I've become to love the sense of community spirit it fosters. When else in this modern day and age do we take the time out to visit our neighbours?! If 2020 has taught me anything it's taught me how awesome my local community is and how much more I want to connect with people in my hood. Anzac Day alone, with... us all gathered at the front of our homes with a candle at dawn, moved me in a way I haven't been moved in years. At that moment my community was united. Halloween doesn't need to involve heaps of cheap, plastic decorations too. I raided my felt stash to make these bats and Jack O lanterns. Pretty easy craft....no PHD required. As for the sugar and waste....we'll be trick or treating in our street later but only taking one treat per house. And I'll just be handing out one 'treat' per visitor too. My kids don't need the sugar. They know how it makes their bodies feel so won't protest if I put their stash aside for another day. But I won't deny them the fun of dressing up and walking around our neighbourhood. For the first Halloween ever I might even dress up too. What the heck...it's 2020. Time to lighten up. X Are you getting in on Halloween this year? Covid Lockdown or not, share how you're marking the occasion below! . . #ecoliving #halloween #sustainableliving #plasticfree #trickortreat

17.01.2022 There comes a day in the life of every entrepreneur when the inevitable happens....you realize that you don't want to grow your current brand / business anymore. Perhaps you've outgrown it. Perhaps the business climate has changed. Perhaps you want to do something new again.... Whatever the reason, when this day happens you'll find yourself asking yourself the following question.... Should I Sell My Brand/Business or Should I Just Shut It Down? In 11 years of building conscious businesses I've found myself in this position twice. The first time, five years ago, I chose to sell my brand. And I'm glad I made that choice. The second time, just last month, I chose to sell down my stock, close the online store and keep the brand name, email list and social media following. And I'm glad I made that choice. Why did I make two different decisions? Because they were two different brands, at different stages of profitability and growth and I had a different attachment to them. If the isolation and extra thinking time that’s accompanied Covid-19 lockdown has gifted you clarity and you’re ready to prune an offering or even an entire brand, my latest podcast episode is for you. I share the advantages and disadvantages of selling a brand verses just closing it down. Click HERE to discover if you should sell your brand or close it down>> https://lauratrotta.com/cbb-29-sell-your-business/ Regardless of where you are at in your business journey I suggest you give this episode a listen. Having an exit plan is crucial for your business, and tuning in now just might help you prepare for that inevitable day when you choose to say good-bye to your beloved brand. Have you sold a brand or business? Did you decide to avoid the sale and instead sell down stock or just close the doors? What were the key elements why you made your decision and what were the advantages/disadvantages? Share below!
16.01.2022 If there's one thing I've learned in my business journey, it's that fear is constant and it's here to stay. Whether it's fear of failure, fear of success (yes that IS a thing), fear of being seen, or even fear of being found out as an imposter, business building and fear go hand in hand. And it's for this reason that people who are most successful in business and who are able to make a bigger impact aren't necessarily the smartest, the kindest or the most business savvy.... They're simply the ones who have learned how to get comfortable with uncomfortable feelings. They've learned how to coexist with fear. In my latest business podcast episode I'm joined by Peter Scott IV. Peter is the founder of the Fearless Coach Academy and is author of the #1 bestselling book "The Fearless Mindset". His mission is to transform humanity's relationship with fear so that anyone can make the impact and earn the income they desire. If you're ready to learn more about fear and how you can specifically overcome it so you can make a bigger impact in our world, you're going to love our chat. Click HERE to discover how to overcome fear>> https://lauratrotta.com/cbb30-how-to-overcome-fear-with-pe/ Listen in and be sure to let me know your thoughts! 15.01.2022 When most people talk about healing the environment, they mention simple acts we can do to minimise our impact. It’s rare to find someone who is prepared to go that extra mile and speak the truth that minimising our impact isn’t going to cut it. This week on the Eco Chat Podcast I’m joined by Dr Mahdi Mason an environmental consultant, author and land healer. She recently released her second book ‘Earth Healing: Healing the Earth to heal ourselves’ to critical acclaim. Her passion is helping people to understand the importance of reversing our environmental impacts, not just reducing them. I really like Mahdi’s view on life and passion for sustainability, and I’m thrilled to be sharing her message with you. You can check it out here>>http://bit.ly/2EGRzXI
15.01.2022 Dust it’s not a sexy topic but it is an important topic when it comes to maintaining a clean and healthy home. With dust being a leading cause of environmental allergies in both children and adults, it pays to understand what dust is, how it accumulates in your home and how to get rid of it, for good! I'm discussing all this AND sharing my top tips on how to reduce the dust in your home in this week's episode. Check it out here >>http://bit.ly/2b4G6mt
14.01.2022 The writing is on the wall... in order to keep global warming within the 1.5C goal of the Paris Agreement (that's the agreed level that would substantially reduce the risk and impacts of climate change) we need to end our love affair with the internal combustion engine. The humble motor car. Thankfully, there's a compelling alternative that's fast becoming a viable alternative for rev heads and greenies alike, the electric vehicle. If you're yet to make the switch you'll lo...ve my latest Eco Chat podcast episode where I discuss the pros and cons of electric vehicles with Dan Deleur, Vice Chair of the AEVA Australian Electric Vehicle Association South Australian branch. In this informative and at times humourous chat, Dan covers why we need to make a swift switch to electric vehicles, how electric vehicles differ to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, how far you can travel in an electric vehicle before you need to charge up, and much more. Click HERE to hear the pros and cons of electric vehicles>> https://lauratrotta.com/electric-vehicles/ So whether you value performance and speed in your vehicle, or low emissions and a quiet, fume-free ride, make the commitment today to make your next car an electric one and you'll be taking a big step forward in making green mainstream.

12.01.2022 While we're all knee deep coming to terms with the Covid-19 pandemic, there's a much bigger threat that's looming for humanity, and that's climate change. In my latest Eco Chat podcast episode I’m joined by former Commissioner of Fire & Rescue NSW Greg Mullins to unpack the angriest summer of fires in Australia. We discuss how climate change is impacting the frequency and intensity of bushfires and how communities can reduce their bushfire risk in a warming world. We also tou...ch on the difference in the government response to Covid-19 and climate change. 11.01.2022 So this month in Self Sufficiency in the Suburbs I'm challenging my community to VEG OUT!!! Despite what you may think, this doesn't involve lounging around (but since we're in isolation I'm all for us doing that!!). Instead, I'm challenging my members to up the amount of plant based foods in their diets and decrease the amount of animal products they're consuming to reduce their carbon footprint. The winner takes home a delicious plant-based hamper valued at over $60. And to... help members get started I've added a heap of my favourite plant-based recipes to our member Recipe Index. The Aromatic Lentils are vegan, gluten and dairy free and come it around $1.50 a serve! They're a great dish to enjoy at any time, but especially when finances are tight or you have a pantry well stocked with tinned food like lentils and crushed tomatoes. My chickpea, pumpkin and broccoli red curry is also vegan (if you leave out the fish sauce), gluten and dairy free. It's a hearty and cleansing curry and no doubt will become a favourite in your plant-based recipe repertoire! And of course my Vegetarian Nachos are soooooooo tasty and filling. They will satisfy any Mexican-food loving family member. And like the others, they're vegan, gluten and dairy free so are a great inclusive meal for dinner guests with special diets. You can get these recipes, join in the fun and also get my complete framework for Sustainable Living at the moment for just $1 on a 60-day trial (offer valid for a limited time). Find out more here>> https://selfsufficiencyinthesuburbs.com/ I hope you join us and get all the resources and support you need to create your sustainable home and lifestyle!!

07.01.2022 Of all the single-use plastic in your life, which has been the hardest for you to break up with so far? If you're an average household, chances are it might be your plastic bin liner. It was only a few short years ago when Australia's Eastern States were proposing to ban plastic shopping bags that the ban was met with an overwhelming but what are we going to use for bin liners?! from a loud, irate section of the public. Many people were seriously anxious about what they wo...uld use instead of plastic bags. In my latest Eco Chat podcast I'm sharing four sustainable alternatives to plastic bin liners. Tune in here>> https://lauratrotta.com/bin-liner-alternatives/ Plastic is a significant problem in our environment because it never breaks down. It just breaks up into smaller and smaller pieces that contaminate our water and soil and enter the food chain. The prevalence of plastics in our environment has been linked to many human health issues including obesity, early adolescence, infertility and cancer. Plastics are not just impacting our environment. Because we’re part of the environment, they’re impacting us too! If you’re a user of single-use plastic bin liners, be part of the change and switch to more sustainable alternatives. Want more tips to break up with single use plastics? 06.01.2022 Alot can happen in a day when it's 2020!!! I took this pic on my evening walk along the beach last night and as I did, was full of gratitude that I live so close to the beach. From tonight my entire State will be in an extreme lock down to get on top of a new covid cluster. Exercise outside the home is off the cards for the next six days so my walk last night was extra special. Thank goodness for online yoga!!!... Take care out there everyone. I'm confident South Australia will get on top of this soon. In the meantime it's back to home schooling, iso baking and family movie nights for us. 04.01.2022 Last year the world lost one of the greatest entertainers of our generation, David Bowie. Thousands mourned his passing and visited his birth town to mark their respect. Musicians played tribute to Bowie at concerts around the world and a tribute show was held in New York late March last year to celebrate his life. Scientists even registered a constellation shaped like a lightning bolt in honour of David Bowie and his out-of-this-world talent. Such is the collective love for ...Bowie’s art and the impact he’s had on so many; he truly was one of the world’s greatest creative minds and he’s undeniably left a legacy. But what is legacy and what will yours be? That’s what I'm talking about on the blog and Eco Chat podcast Check it out here>> http://bit.ly/1UHChQ3

02.01.2022 {Conscious Business} Wow! What a year 2020 continues to be! There's no doubt about it, the Covid-19 pandemic is impacting our lives and businesses like never before. But is it all bad?... Clearly not every business is struggling. The share price of Zoom Video Communications shares alone has doubled since January 2020 as more businesses have pivoted online. Likewise, the value of e-commerce platform Shopify and team management software Slack have also increased substantially. It goes without saying that there’s still plenty of opportunities to make a positive impact and earn a decent living at the same time, especially if your business is online. I know this to be definitely true as I've just come off the best quarter (by a mile) in my business in three years. I don’t say this to boast, but to let you know what’s possible in uncertain times. I consciously worked on my mindset in March and April, and it paid off substantially in my business bottom line. What I have also found to be true in my 10+ years of online business is that what holds us and our impact-driven businesses back during times of uncertainty is not the lack of opportunities and paying clients, but our belief that they’re in short supply. In my latest podcast episode I share three particular pandemic money blocks that are costing your business and how to overcome them. Click HERE to discover the three pandemic money blocks>> https://lauratrotta.com/cbb-31-pandemic-money-blocks/ Listen in and be sure to let me know your thoughts! 01.01.2022 It’s little surprise that the foods we eat impact our environment. Whether it be high food miles, large amounts of water or chemicals used to produce the food, land degradation caused by food production, or resources used to process and package the food and transport it to market, the choices we make when it comes to our diet can make a lasting impact on the world in which we live. The good news is that by making a few small changes to our diet and including more plant-based ...foods, we not only improve the health of the environment, we improve our own health at the same time! In this week's blog article, I share 5 ways to increase your intake of plant-based foods. You can check them out here>>http://bit.ly/2kc9qrS
