23.01.2022 Honouring a fantastic woman and artist today, a lady from the Tiwi Cornelia Tipuamantumirri Cornelia started painting in 2010 at the grand age of 80, taking over the art industry like a wild storm!... All of her paintings depict the land and sea from her home land, Munupi country. Cornelia has a strong bond to the waters surrounding the Tiwi Islands, forged by a lifetime of memories living encircled within the tides of the Arafura Sea. She looks at the moon and knows when time is good for hunting, good for fishing. She just has to look at a tree with yellow flowers and will say, it’s good for hunting possum and turtles. When a dragonfly flies by, she’ll say, dragonfly, dry season is coming, it’s around the corner.
