25.01.2022 Just a few shots from a very successful Easter Feast of Cycling 2019 at Laurel Hill Forest Lodge. Thanks to all the participants who came from near and far, the local businesses who welcomed us all, Goodes Coaches and the autumn weather for being so spectacular throughout the long weekend. Good riding, delicious home cooked food and great company made it another fabulous cycling event in our local area. More stories and photos to come. Mark your diaries for Easter 2020!

24.01.2022 NSW's first rail trail on public land is about to open and it's a ripper. Tumbarumba - Rosewood near Canberra. Check-it out (while, of course, following any C...OVID-19 precautions) Here's some photos, and for subscribers, full story in my The Canberra Times column this week here: https://www.canberratimes.com.au//make-tracks-for-rural-r/

23.01.2022 Here is a screen shot (and link), from the recently released promotional video for Visit Snowy Valleys which just happens to (briefly) feature our Tumbarumba to... Rosewood Rail Trail and other mountain bike trails in the area - watch carefully at about the 2:50 mark! A reminder that the postponed opening weekend planned for 26 September 2020 has been postponed again (due to COVID restrictions) and is now scheduled for Saturday 10 April 2021. Please let your friends know if they were planning on coming down for the weekend. The rail trail will still be open just no celebrations happening yet. Also be aware of snakes becoming active in the area and the occasional protective magpie. https://www.facebook.com/SnowyValleys/videos/600964610600597 We'd love to hear your thoughts on the video!

23.01.2022 Forestry Corporation Fire Training Bootcamp was once again held at Laurel Hill Forest Lodge in early November. This was a successful 5 day training camp following all Covid safe protocols. Over 50 participants and trainers were fully engaged in various scenarios and training situations, including Crew Leaders, Crew Members, and advanced Fire Fighters. And they were very appreciative of the delicious home cooked meals. Visit NSW State Forests

21.01.2022 Easter Feast of Cycling 2019 at Laurel Hill Forest Lodge saw 32 riders join the fun, with rides for both road riders and mountain bikers catered for. The schedule included: Good Friday meet up and ride to Batlow where Lisa at Batlow Bakery kindly opened up for us. On Saturday the road riders rode to Brungle Bridge, a lovely spot for a delicious picnic. The mountain bike riders rode to Tumut via Blowering Dam, with spectacular views! The groups met up at Tumut River Brewin...g Co and were transported back to Laurel Hill by Anthony (covering for Jimmy) from Goodes Coaches. Sunday started with an Easter Egg hunt at Laurel Hill Forest Lodge and then the road riders went to Rosewood with morning tea at the Rosewood park before walking the Downfall S bends. After lunch in the bush the group rode into Tumbarumba for a beer at the Union Hotel The MTBikers rode to Tumbarumba via Bago Forest and had a coffee stop at Tumbarumba Bakery before meeting up with Peter Marshall who guided the group around the mountain bike trails in town, then met up with the others at The Union Hotel and got the bus back to Laurel Hill Forest Lodge for dinner and a fun evening. After a fully cooked breakfast on Monday, the group packed their bikes away and departed for home after an active and adrenaline packed weekend. Beautiful weather, great riding, delicious home cooked food and fun times - perfectly sums up the Easter Feast of Cycling 2019! See more

21.01.2022 An interesting article from one of our clients. More than a dozen researchers from CSIRO, the University of Tasmania and Geoscience Australia conducted a week-long and multi-scale field experiment at the long-term TERN/CSIRO Tumbarumba flux tower research site located in the Bago State Forest. The aim of the experiment was to link observational scales from leaf level to satellite earth observing instruments for spatial and temporal monitoring of photosynthetic primary product...ion. These scales were bridged by drone and tower-mounted sensors, enabling accurate mapping of the impacts of climate extremes on forest ecosystems' productivity and vulnerability. The results are intended to better inform decision-makers and land managers about future perspectives on natural resources and wood production. A recent TERN newsletter article about related activities at the field site can be found at https://www.tern.org.au/Copernicus-Tower-bgp4464.html. See more

18.01.2022 Owen doing what he does best!

17.01.2022 It is now over a week since we left Laurel Hill Forest Lodge and our home. Today Owen and I were able to have a quick look around the property and empty the fridges and freezers. We have lost our house garage, the pump shed and pump plus 2 other sheds.the grounds immediately around the lodges are ok. We would like to thank the wonderful Forest NSW crews and the RFS crews that helped in saving our property. Once the roads are open and we have power we will be back getting La...urel Hill Forest Lodge up and running. Our heart goes out to all our friends that have lost so much. Thank you for the enormous amount of concern. Owen and Cathy See more

11.01.2022 It was great to welcome 20 students and staff from All Saints School in Tumbarumba for their Year 5 & 6 overnight Leadership Camp last week. The students had fun on the confidence course, practising their communication skills; using their initiative on the pioneering activity; running around on the amazing race and getting creative with their shelter building in the forest. This was the first overnight camp for All Saints at Laurel Hill. Thanks to staff for the use of their photos. We love seeing students enjoying themselves like this :) All Saints Primary School, Tumbarumba

09.01.2022 We have now been home for a fortnight and have been busy cleaning up after the Dunns Road Bushfire. We have been truly humbled by all the support and kindness our Laurel Hill Forest Lodge community has shown us and we thank you all. A special mention to friends and family who came with tools in hands last week to help start the clean up of getting the property ready to accommodate our guests. We are passionate about bringing tourism back to our region and community and are looking forward to showing off our beautiful part of the world to our guests. Tumbafest, Batlow CiderFest and the opening of the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail are just a few of the up and coming reasons to visit these amazing communities. We will keep you updated on our progress.

09.01.2022 It’s glorious autumn weather with amazing colours everywhere, but unfortunately you’re not able to see it! No bike riders, no bush walkers, no school groups, no visitors. We want you to know we miss you all. In the meantime enjoy theses photos from the driveway and maybe next year you will be able to see it for yourself. Stay well!

07.01.2022 For those of you who are keen to come visit us in Tumbarumba, this guide to the rail trail, written by a friend of ours, might be a useful read.

06.01.2022 Leeton High School came to Laurel Hill Forest Lodge for their Year 7 camp, along with some Year 11 mentors earlier in the month. It was great to see the Year 11 students interact, support and encourage the Year 7s in the various activities throughout the camp. The students were all well behaved, very active and interested in getting involved in all the fun stuff like shelter building, pioneering, the Amazing Race, bush walking and the ever popular confidence/communication/trust activity. The staff were also very involved with running their own school activities and encouraging the students throughout the time at camp. The freshly baked scones with homemade jam and cream were the clear favourites out of all the delicious food on offer!

02.01.2022 The wait is almost over! The 'virtual' official opening of the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail is happening right here on our Facebook page this Friday 3 April 2020 at 11.30am. See you then!

02.01.2022 Recently a small group from the Murrumbidgee Field Naturalists spent 3 days exploring the Tumbarumba area visiting Paddy's River Dam, Paddy's River Falls, Henry Angel Track Head, Sugar Pine Walk, Pilot Hill and Manus Lake. They were very impressed with the wildlife they spotted.

01.01.2022 A group from ANU Fenner School spent 2 days in the Tumut Tumbarumba area with staff from Forest Corporation, Visy and Hume Forests. This is a repost from one of the students. An amazing experience, filled with forestry conversations and meetings with enthusiastic foresters who are very passionate and proud about their jobs. Our group of 14 students that were desperate to learn more about softwood plantations and timber production just returned from 2-days field trip to Tumut ...and Tumbarumba. We had a chance to see and find out a lot, from where forests begin to where timber ends up. Hence, we visited a nursery of Forest Corporation, attended a couple of harvesting sites, and saw how the timber can be processed on a very impressive Visy pulp mill. Also, a Q&A session with senior people who manage different fields within Tumut forestry and young professionals was scheduled. It was very inspiring and insightful! Big thanks to the forestry enthusiast Rodney Anderson from Visy for the trip organization and Prof. Peter Kanowski for his support. IFSA @ ANU would also like to acknowledge Forest Corporation, Visy, and Hume Forests who made this field trip possible. And Fenner School (ANU) for transport and supervision.
