25.01.2022 Yesterday marked the start of Mens Health Week. We know that we lose 6 men a day to suicide, with men in marginalised groups such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, refugees, men in prison and men of low economic standing at a greater risk to suicide and other health risks. Its important for men to access mental health services even during COVID19. Head here to find resources and further information - https://www.menshealthweek.org.au/... #menshealthweek

24.01.2022 Exploring challenges Mens Health Week 2020 International Mens Health Week is a great opportunity to grow our understanding of the health issues impacting men. It creates an opportunity to explore the unique challenges men face in managing their physical and mental health and to promote strategies that break down barriers to good health.... Did you know - Mens life expectancy is on average 4.4 years shorter than womens - Men take their own lives at 4 times the rate of women, equating on average to 5 men a day dying from suicide in Australia - Men are less likely than women to see their GP, let alone a mental health professional. #menshealthweek

24.01.2022 We know that there is huge demand for mental health services across the community. Thats why were investing $24.4 million as part of our WA Recovery Plan to p...rovide an additional 20 mental health beds at Fremantle Hospital. The new unit will include a 10-bed older adult neurological behavioural unit, caring for patients with complex needs including neurological and psychiatric issues. Patients will benefit greatly from a shared model of care between psychiatry and geriatric professionals. There will also be a 10-bed adult ward, all single rooms with access to a courtyard. It will complement the 20-bed secure mental health unit we announced in April 2019 at Fremantle Hospital. This 40-bed mental health development will transform Fremantle Hospital into a key mental health hub. It will significantly boost the current 64-bed inpatient admission capacity and provide better access to expert care for patients with a mental illness in the South Metropolitan region. Preliminary work on the redevelopment will commence shortly, with the unit expected to open in 2023. This is a positive step forward for people living with a mental illness in Perths southern corridor. Itll provide greater access to expert care and treatment and help relieve pressure on busy emergency departments in the area.

13.01.2022 National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge and recognise members of the Stolen Generation and to remember the grief, suffering and injustice experienced by Abor...iginal people across the nation. Marked annually, this day gives people the chance to come together and share the steps towards healing for the Stolen Generations, their families, and communities. This day also marks the anniversary of the tabling in Federal Parliament of the Bringing Them Home Report of the National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from Their Families, on 26 May 1997. At Anglicare WA, we are deeply committed to our work with Aboriginal peoples as clients, advisors, and partners in social change. Today, we reaffirm that commitment, and acknowledge that our organisation, like our community and our country, has a lot further to go on our journey to reconciliation.
