22.01.2022 PROGESTERONE | I'm sure you've heard of the hormone progesterone, but do you know what this baby actually does? Because it is good for SO MUCH more then just healthy menstrual cycles and fertility. Fun fact: The word progesterone actually comes from "pro-gestation" which should give some insight into how important it is for fertility and pregnancy! In Chinese medicine, progesterone correlates to our Yang energy ... The only way our bodies produce progesterone is through ovulation. One of the reasons why ovulation is so important! Remember, if you are taking any form of hormonal contraception (the pill, mirena IUD, implanon etc.)- you are not ovulating, which means you are not producing any progesterone, and we definitely want this one! Benefits of this amazing hormone: Decreases PMS Creates shorter, lighter periods Supports fertility and pregnancy Increases energy and protects against adrenal fatigue. Improves the quality of sleep A natural anti-depressant and anti-anxiety agent Improves integrity of the skin and prevents breakouts/acne Boosts immune system Builds bone and muscle cells Protects against some cancers Maintains good metabolism An simple way to tell if your progesterone levels are low is to look at the length of your cycle, if you have short cycles (generally 25 days or less) then you may have low levels of progesterone. Our levels can become low for a wide variety of reasons but the good thing is there are lots of things we can do to support and nourish this vital hormone! Good diet and lifestyle being #1 Have you ever had low progesterone levels? Did you know what to do to help build them back up? Image via @filippaedghill See more

16.01.2022 PHOTOBIOMODULATION (PBM) = using light to effect biology! AKA light therapy or low level laser therapy (LLLT). My patients will be familiar with the trusty red light heat lamp we use in our sessions over different areas of the body to add extra benefit PBM has an enormous body of research behind it. One of the key benefits is supplying energy to mitochondria, which are present in every cell in the body & needed for every bodily process. PBM has been shown to benefit skin ...health, energy, wound healing, sleep, joint pain, arthritis, muscle recovery, inflammation reduction, acute pain, bone health, dental health, chronic pain, regeneration of tissue, collagen production, thyroid health, hair growth, gut health, cognitive function, brain health, reproductive health & fertility! There is so much to say on this topic with such a fascinating & robust body of research behind it, so lets focus in on reproductive health today. PBM therapy has been shown to: Enhance impaired endometrial receptivity Increase the proliferative and functional capacity of endometrial cells (the cells that line the uterus that we need to sustain a pregnancy). Enhance mitochondrial activity and ATP production Improve egg quality Increase pelvic blood flow Normalisation of the menstrual cycle (for irregular cycles or amenorrhoea) Reduction of period pain. Reduction of pain associated with endometriosis. Increase in sperm count and quality. Lowers reactive oxygen species (ROS)/oxidative damage to the reproductive system. There are so many different ways to access PBM therapy from full body systems in clinics to handheld devices you can use at home. I cant wait to share more on this topic because the research is truly mind blowing. I have the @joovvsocial Joovv Go NIR (near infrared) with the 850nm wavelength which penetrates deeper into the body tissues. Im going to be using it for #allthebenefits but Im obviously most excited to see what changes I see with my cycle with consistent use. Have you tried light therapy? #joovv #redlighttherapy #joovvin #howijoovv

09.01.2022 LIVER LOVING BREKKIE | Asparagus, brussel sprouts, spinach and broccoli. The Liver loves greens, and we need to love our Livers! The liver processes and detoxifies all our hormones and is KEY for having healthy balanced hormones. If you are having hormonal issues, supporting your liver health is a must. Eating any green veggies will help to support liver health especially the ones listed above! Side note: It is fascinating to note that in Chinese Medicine the Liver belong...s to the Wood element, and it's colour is green. Chinese medicine has always advocated for eating natural green foods to keep the wood element balanced and healthy. It is only with relatively recent research that science has uncovered the specific chemical compounds found in green vegetables that help to support its Liver function - and yet Chinese medicine has been preaching this for at least 2000 years...how did they know?!
