17.01.2022 WHAT ABOUT YOU, MUMMA? Yesterday I put up a story asking whether you have/had a cat napping baby. The response was overwhelmingly yes & my DMs were inundated with mothers explaining the desperate times they are in and that despite trying everything, their babes are still sleeping 20-40mins per nap. While cat napping is biologically normal, I only realised yesterday the real issue here is the mental load this places on mothers. Having just been diagnosed with post natal depre...ssion & anxiety myself, I’m making an effort to focus on how to manage the mental load of cat napping, instead of fixating on my child’s lack of sleep. Here’s a few things I think women who are having a hard time should try to focus on: * Finding time for yourself. A walk, a bath, reading a book... whatever it is you enjoy, make it a priority. Even if it’s just once a week * Throw out the rule book. Every baby is different. My first child never cat napped & never slept on me. While I’m trying to get Harriet to link her sleep cycles, if she finishes her nap or even sleeps in the carrier all day, that’s ok too * Be honest with yourself & those around you about the state of your mental health. There is power in vulnerability and there are so many resources out there to help us. I started with my GP and have a care plan in place to support me and my family * Practice self praise. Focus on the things you have achieved during the day & remind yourself you’re doing a great job. Don’t fixate on what isn’t going right for you right now. This too shall pass Because... I truly believe every mother (and anyone else who is the primary carer of children) is incredible, powerful & beyond devoted to their babies. We have the hardest but most rewarding job in the world. 10.01.2022 Please read Sometimes in business mistakes are made. And they hurt. You dwell on them and you stay awake at night thinking about how you could have avoided them (lucky I’ve been awake with a newborn anyway ). My most recent production of white CHARLIE TEES didn’t go to plan. I won’t dwell on the details of why but not only was I left with a significant financial loss but I had a lot of tees that weren’t sellable. The thing is, these tees ARE wearable. To the average eye yo...u wouldn’t know there were issues. I’m just a perfectionist and won’t ask customers to pay for something unless it’s absolutely perfect. So... after some research, I contacted the wonderful ladies at @mummiespayingitforward - a charity supporting mothers in need of some help. In this case, the Charlie tees will be given to pregnant women who are escaping domestic violence, seeking asylum or are financially struggling. I’m already imagining these special women putting an LM tee on and feeling just a little bit lovely amidst what I can only imagine are some painfully challenging moments in their lives.
