21.01.2022 Descending! The most difficult skill for a bird to learn (especially a large bird) Such an important skill! Not only for free flight but incase your bird ever escaped, the hardest part of recovery will be them having the confidence/skill to fly down. ... Watch the top of the tree in this video and see if you can see Stitch the green wing dropping down. She struggled with descending a lot initially as a lot of green wings do in free flight. But she has definitely got the hang of it now

10.01.2022 A common assumption/misconception/accusation that has been raised recently is that many people free flying weight manage/starve their birds to get them to come back.... While I cannot speak for everyone in the free flight community I can assure you that my birds and any of the birds I free fly with are some of the best fed birds you will ever meet. I keep my birds favourite foods for training/foraging to keep their value high and ensure they are willing/wanting to work for th...em. Starving? Definitely not, motivated by the opportunity to work for their favourite snacks - absolutely. In the wild nothing comes for free, birds have to work for their food. If they are handed a bowl of delicious food and that takes up 2% of their day to eat it, that leaves 98% of their day for possible boredom. By ensuring your bird has to work for their food through foraging toys etc you are encouraging natual behaviours and leaving less room for undesirable behaviours such as screaming/plucking/aggression to creep in. Mental stimulation is just as important (if not more important than physical stimulation) Dash & Timon enjoying a forage at free flight this morning. Enrichment

09.01.2022 I've just had another call to clip a parrot. I asked why and the answer was because it's flying I can't understand why people buy a bird and then want to disa...ble it. I explained reasons why I don't clip and hopefully they will think about it and decide against it. Clipped birds from under 6 months of age are still developing and it can affect there development. They learn to fly and control flying like a child learning to walk. Do you disable a child cos it falls? No... with a bird you hang nets or put masking tape on windows and mirrors until it learns were they are and what they cant fly through. Birds need to fly to keep fit and healthy, many problems can arise from clipping... *Plucking and mutilating. *Depression *Over weight causing fatty liver disease. *Birds are supposed to fly if you dont want it to fly dont get a bird. *Damaged Keel bone from falls. *Broken legs/wings from falls. *Most clips are done wrong so can't grow back, that is by breeders and veterinarians. If you are worried they will escape in summer build an aviary outside, keep cage locked until the evening, use a harness or buy a small cage for taking outside with you. Get bird microchipped incase of escape/accident. More clipped birds escape because people think they cant fly yet Less clipped escaped birds are retrieved alive because of predators ie wild birds/cats/dogs/traffic accidents as they cant escape or defend themselves. Its a subject that causes uproar but look at facts and make your own decision.. personally I dont think it is kind or ethical x ***Also they can fall and break open the chest on the keel bone and takes months to heal because of where it is, or break keel bone. Often causes depression and subdued after and some don't pull out of it then can be the start of plucking problems, or feather shafts don't moult out prop after and skin grows around tight then causes feather systs causing lots of pain and a costly operation at said vets, or the birds that don't pull out the depression then have to go in to have the feathers replaced Surgically by avian vet again costly/stressful for bird and distressing! Many reasons not to clip a bird. https://parrotvolancy.com/physical-health/
