25.01.2022 2020 Preparations are well under way for the year ahead! I am looking forward to this year and the learning that will take place. I am looking forward to seeing my students after a well earned break and meeting new ones One more week of holidays!!

21.01.2022 Reading can be challenging for lots of kids for lots of different reasons. It’s not surprising given that from our 26 letters in the alphabet comes approximately 44 phonemes (sounds) ! Graphemes (various letters and letter combinations) are used to represent these sounds. Confusing! Whether it’s learning to read or reading to learn there are many facets of reading we need to focus on to read well. Research shows that instruction in the areas of phonemic awareness, phonics..., fluency, vocabulary and comprehension are required to teach a child to read. If your child is finding reading difficult there are heaps of online resources that can help you! Topmarks is just one resource with games for a range of ages.

21.01.2022 2019 has been a wonderful year of learning! I have been so impressed with the effort and perseverence each of my students have shown to achieve incredible progress. My piano students have come so far in their understanding of music theory and their ability to read and play from a music score! Listening to them play makes my heart sing! ... My Maths students have nailed their times tables and many other maths concepts that were ‘too hard’ before. Watching them do maths with a smile on their face and an ‘I can do this’ attitude brings me so much joy! If your child is showing interest in learning piano next year I would love to hear from you as I’m now organising lesson times for 2020!! Alternatively if your child has finished this year feeling a little discouraged and overwhelmed with Maths, or any other subject, and would benefit from one to one tutoring next year please contact me. I would love to help them! Let’s aim for a growth mindset over a fixed one

15.01.2022 A friend of mine recently shared this story and as both a parent and a teacher I found it challenging and thought provoking. As we teach our kids we need to remember that their imagination is so special Once a little boy went to school. He was quite a little boy. And it was quite a big school....Continue reading

08.01.2022 Creative Writing There’s nothing better! I love watching children enter their imagination and create wild adventures in far away lands ... However it’s not always easy for children to come up with ideas that motivate them to write and they can feel overwhelmed. Flip books are a great way to kick start stories giving students some key features of their story to spark their imagination!

05.01.2022 This is worth watching!

05.01.2022 ‘Learning piano at a young age was one of the best things that I did in my life. I am grateful to my parents for supporting and encouraging me.’ I couldn’t agree more with this! You might wonder if your child is suited to learning an instrument. If they show interest in music and playing an instrument then that’s a great start! This article has lots of helpful advice for parents considering piano lessons for their child. https://www.rolandcorp.com.au//parents-guide-for-kids-star

04.01.2022 Embrace music to lift results- don’t neglect it! How encouraging

01.01.2022 Mnemonics noun 1. the study and development of systems for improving and assisting the memory. I don’t know where I would be without mnemonics! ... I remember using them all the time whilst studying in high school and I use them now when teaching to help my students. I use these well known ones in my piano lessons (unless students come up with their own they prefer) to remember where notes sit on the staff
