24.01.2022 Before lockdown 2.0, our wonderful Music Captains curated a series of Jazz items for our School community in place of the annual Cabaret concert. If you need a little musical boost, heres a taster with the talented Emily Leung on sax with Hard Rock Blues.
24.01.2022 We're delighted to celebrate Jo Piavaninis recently published book on Seamus Heaney. In 'Cultural Memory in Seamus Heaneys Late Work', Jo considers the ways that memory functions in Heaneys poetry, arguing that the shaping of collective memory is one of Heaney's major contributions as a poet. We are fortunate to have someone with such passion and expertise instilling a love of literature and literary analysis in our students. #teachersforlife #schoolforlife #seamusheaneypoetry
24.01.2022 This term the Grade 5 girls investigated the always popular topic of Space, including the planets in our Solar System and how Earths seasons occur. Working remotely posed an interesting challenge, with a visit to the FabLab to create 3D models cancelled in light of current restrictions. But where there's a will there's a way, and instead each girls were sent individual laser-cut kits to build at home. The models including moveable joints and an Earth spinning on its tilt...ed axis were carefully constructed and then painted for that impressive final touch. This project was a great way to integrate learning through making into Science, and from all reports the girls had a ball creating their model solar systems. #STEM #schoolforlife #girlsinSTEM
23.01.2022 Felicity Hu’s passion for community is evident in her School journey School Prefect in her final year; peer support leader to younger students; a member of Lauriston orchestras, bands and ensembles; and a passionate member of Amnesty International and Pride Club. She was also the recipient of academic distinctions in Science, Mathematics, French and English and was awarded the Mathematics Encouragement Award and the Lauriston Writing Prize. When asked what key things she w...ould take away from her time at Lauriston, Felicity says that community and Howqua are the first things that spring to mind. The unique environment at Howqua kick-started my transition towards independence and self-assurance as a young woman. Howqua was also key in the development of my communication and interpersonal skills, which have translated into all aspects of life. I really enjoyed the sense of community that permeated every aspect of school life at Lauriston. Whether it was our House, Howqua, year levels, or IB cohort, I always felt a sense of belonging. The support we received in our final years was further indication of this sense of community and invaluable, especially during this past year. When looking to the future, Felicity’s desire to give back to the community is apparent. I’m hoping to make a change in the healthcare industry either through practising medicine or through biomedical engineering. Of course, I am open to other opportunities if I come across them! This is what Lauriston has taught me. #2020vce #2020ib #Classof2020

23.01.2022 We are thrilled to announce that two of our teachers Owen Flattery and Lindy Grahn have been recognised in The Educator magazine Hot List 2020, which recognises and celebrates professionals who are at the forefront of educational excellence in Australia. Owen Flattery, our Director of Digital Learning and Whole School Initiatives, has been responsible for Lauristons early and decisive response to the COVID-19 outbreak, implementing a successful school-wide transition to... remote learning using Zoom. Owen also enabled a number of initiatives such as livestream virtual music performances that have kept our School community connected and engaged. More recently, Owen launched our exciting and innovative micro-credentialing program, Lauriston Creds. Lindy Grahn, Assistant Principal Learning and Innovation, has played a crucial role in reworking the curriculum offerings for Years 710 in 2021 with the aim of giving our students more choice to pursue interests and opportunities and offer them a well-balanced and well-rounded education. Thanks to the dedication and inspiration of educators such as Owen and Lindy, our students will have the skills necessary to engage, adapt and continuously learn to meet the challenges of our rapidly changing world. Read more about Lindy and Owens achievements here: https://www.theeducatoronline.com//hot-list-2020-wi/272817
23.01.2022 At Lauriston, we strive to help our girls become strong, courageous, intellectually curious women who see challenge as opportunity. Join alumna Dr Kat Vuong (2013) this Wednesday to hear her inspiring story from Lauriston to today. #oldlauristoniansassociation
22.01.2022 In Junior School we cultivate leadership through a multitude of opportunities such as speaking in assemblies, community service, sport, musicals and live productions. These opportunities build depth of character and strength and inspire our girls to be courageous and resilient when challenges arise. One aspect of our Junior School leadership program is the Student Representative Council (SRC) for Years 36. Each class nominates a representative for one Semester. The SRCs com...plete many important roles throughout the semester. Supported by their teacher, each rep also leads class meetings discussing aspects of school life that are important to them. They then have the opportunity to voice the classs suggestions in a fortnightly meeting with our Head of Junior School Chris Toms. Congratulations to the following girls who are our Semester 2 SRC representatives: Lulu M (3), Arden M (3), Camilla S (4), Lily M-J (4), Cathy G (5), Sarah D (5), Arabella M (5), Elizabeth Z (6), Daisy G (6) and Livia S-E (6).
22.01.2022 Acclaimed film director Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore joined our Year 10 Media class over two sessions to talk about making music, her career path and her creative process. Claudia won music video of the year with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLQ4by3lUJo and followed this success with the critically acclaimed documentary http://www.hersoundherstory.com/ which, according to Beat Magazine, 'will transform the voice of women in the creative industry'. Claudia's story of persiste...nce, resilience and self-belief was empowering and inspiring, and the girls have dived into their next project with huge enthusiasm. Students Sienna Jewell and Eleanor Suttie share their thoughts: 'Our first term of media has been a creative journey and a great introduction into the world of filmmaking. We were excited to learn the basics of editing software used by professionals in the film industry and about the craft of music videos, ranging from the music videos of Taylor Swift to those of MoJu. We then applied these skills when creating our own video essays analysing a music video of choice. All of this knowledge is now going to help us create our own music videos over the next term! 'Last week, Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore, one of Australias top music video directors, came to speak with us about her path to success and her creative process. As both a passionate creative and one of few female directors, she inspired us all.'
22.01.2022 Howqua 2020 culminated in what was described as ‘the best few weeks of my life!’ as the Howqua girls proved that they can survive and thrive in the bush. The last couple of weeks have seen them complete a 17km End of Year Challenge run and the much-anticipated 6-day hike where the girls navigated mountains, forded rivers, set up camp and battled snakes, blisters, heat, storms and maddening flies, putting into action all the physical and mental skills they have developed a...nd refined over the year. There were tears and laughter at the Final Howqua Assembly as students reflected on the year the challenges and opportunities, the highs and lows. Especially moving were the stories shared by our newly returned Howqua girls, who talked about confidence and courage and how the Howqua experience had helped them find 'the best version of themselves'. Their Howqua Song composed and written by the girls encapsulated the bittersweet triumph our 2020 Howqua girls feel at having completed one of the greatest challenges of their lives. It was a spectacular end to a unique year at Howqua and our girls returned to Melbourne triumphant with the realisation that they are capable of achieving anything they put their minds to. #year9isdifferenthere #howquasong #howqua2020
21.01.2022 At Lauriston Kindergarten, we embed Indigenous understandings into our curriculum in an authentic way, engaging the support of Indigenous elders to help our children develop greater knowledge and understanding of Australian history and cultural diversity. Every year we are both fortunate and privileged to welcome Murrundindi, Elder of the Wurundjeri clan from the Healesville area, to our Kindergarten. The Wurundjeri people lived on the land we now occupy. This year was a lit...tle out of the ordinary. Murrundindi visited our Kindergarten via Zoom, and it was thrilling to watch the way the children embraced this new way of learning. The children were treated to a virtual tour of Murrundindis home and the stories behind many unique artefacts and artworks that he does not bring to Kindergarten, including a special didgeridoo that is too heavy to transport. Murrundindi shared the history of his culture and the children learned some words from the Wurundjeri language, as well as new ways to wish each other good morning, enjoy our meal and see you later. Various indoor and outdoor spaces were set up around the Kindergarten with activities relating to Indigenous culture and the children made damper with Murrundindi, played games, danced and sang. Murrundindi was particularly thrilled with the respect the children showed and their curiosity and questions. We, in turn, were captivated by his ability to engage them so completely, even from afar. For more about our innovative Kindergarten programs such as Bush Kinder and Artist in Residence, check out our Kindergarten Video Tour or book a Virtual Open Morning. https://www.lauriston.vic.edu.au/quick-links/virtual-tours #Murrundindi #IndigenousAustralians #culturaldiversity #reconciliation

20.01.2022 To give our students the skills they need to thrive in a world of rapid change, we embed STEM into our curriculum from Kindergarten. As part of their STEM home learning program this term, our Years 5 and 6 students designed a solution for a problem in their home. Using the Design Thinking framework Empathise, Define (the problem), Ideate, Prototype, and Test they interviewed family members and identified a household problem and then brainstormed, planned and designed a ...prototype using materials from home. They presented their solution to their family members for feedback and improvements. Lucy designed an improved almirah for her parents; Yoyo designed a music stand to fit her book, GoPro, light and place for her iPad (so she can Zoom); Annabel designed a special bed for her dog to keep him warm; and Nicole designed a customised beanie for her beanie-obsessed mum. See our Lauriston Stories on our website for more about Embedding STEM in our Curriculum and read a recent Age article about how we are using technology to stay connected and prepare our young women for the future. https://www.lauriston.vic.edu.au/stories-from-lauriston

20.01.2022 We cannot begin to find the right words for our deep appreciation for the food vouchers. Yesterday your vouchers supported a single mother escaping violence.Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts- these vouchers are life changing.Everyday we are hearing of more and more families that require support and if we were not delivering to them we are not sure anyone else would. We hope we can keep it up...its going to be a long ride we fear. A trolley is set up with a locked box at... Huntingtower road gates to drop much needed vouchers in or digital vouchers can be sent to [email protected] A big shout out to @hagensorganics who yesterday donated 25kg of magnificent meat and @pinosfineproduce who provided a boot full of fresh fruit and veggies and @leosfinefoodandwine who provided 20 x dozen eggs. 19.01.2022 In the Good Weekend Design & Innovation issue we were delighted to read about the incredible achievements of Marita Cheng, who studied Mechatronics at the University of Melbourne and now runs her own company called Aubot. In 2008 Marita assisted her lecturer, Professor Jamie Evans, in giving a robotics workshop to our students. She went on to found Robogals with four other students and Lauriston was the first school to work with this group. Today, Robogals has taught more ...than 10,000 girls from 11 countries. In 2013 Marita built a robotic arm for a young quadriplegic which greatly improved the life of that young woman. She has also designed and built a robot that enables young people in hospital to connect virtually with the school teachers, and co-developed an app called Aiploy Vision that relays detailed information via text or voice about whatever the phone is pointed at. Marita recently filmed a 25-minute documentary with Al Jazeera about her robots. We are proud of our connection with Marita and inspired by the work she is doing in the field of robotics. She exemplifies the reason why females are needed in STEM careers. She is smart, tenacious and wants to use her skills to make a difference to the lives of other people and to our world. Marita is a great role model for our girls because of her ability to see every challenge as an opportunity and her willingness to find a solution to a problem rather than waiting for someone else to do it. 18.01.2022 A Lauriston girl since Kindergarten, Ava Read believes the most important things she learned are valuing others’ perspectives, strength and resilience. Lauriston’s environment is both comforting but challenging, which enabled me to grow. I’ve learned to balance the social, emotional, physical and academic facets of my life. I’ve also learned the importance of taking initiative and making the most of every opportunity. One of the most special aspects of Lauriston is Howqua.... It allowed me to experience a range of activities, grow as a person, and build independence within a small special community. Ava’s interest in community service led her to tutor asylum seekers and refugees at Friday Night School, as well as volunteering for the Lighthouse Foundation and co-heading the Reconciliation Committee. A highlight was her time spent with Noonkanbah’s indigenous community in WA. Ava hopes to study Architecture or Marketing, but also has an interest in Design and Psychology. We look forward to hearing what the future holds for her. #Classof2020 #ib2020 #vce2020

16.01.2022 We are excited to announce the launch of our micro-credentialing initiative, Lauriston Creds. This initiative will ensure that Lauriston students graduate from the School as true global citizens with the skills and attributes essential for success in the 21st Century. Where macro-credentials refer to the completion of broad-based qualifications such a University degree, IB Diploma or VCE, micro-credentials are certification-style qualifications that demonstrate achievement of... specific skills, knowledge, capabilities, and/or experience in a given area. Lauriston has partnered with Credly Acclaim to provide our Senior School students with digital credentials recognition of their skills and accomplishments in the form of a digital badge. Digital badges symbolise Lauriston students achievements in a way that can be displayed, accessed, verified and shared online. The badges consist of an image and metadata uniquely linked to the earner. When someone views your badge, they can learn more about your skills and verify the badges authenticity. Initially, digital badges will be rolled out across our Student Leadership and Community Services programs, recognising students who are going above and beyond in these areas. In time, micro-credentials will cover a variety of skills and a range of areas such as digital content creation, machine learning, critical thinking, design thinking and entrepreneurship. We believe Lauriston Creds will augment and strengthen the great programs we already have in place here, as well as act as a catalyst for the development of new and innovative learning experiences. We're excited to be offering our students this opportunity to showcase the breadth and depth of their skills for tomorrow's ever-changing workplace.

15.01.2022 On Monday 3 August our youngest students celebrated 100 Days of Prep via Zoom! They wore amazing party hat creations, admired by special guests Principal Susan Just and Head of Junior School Chris Toms, and designed a commemorative 100 Days of Prep wooden medal, which was fabricated in the FabLearn Lab. The Preps also shared their thoughts on where they might be at the grand old age of 100! Going on safari and having a jungle cake with 100 candles on it, being a ski cham...pion, travelling to space in a rocket, and learning how to fight Coronavirus so that people were not sick and everyone could play outside and hug each other were just some of their aspirational visions. It was a special day in the lives of our Preps and made all the more so thanks to the support of our Prep families. We look forward to watching our girls as they grow into the leaders, thinkers and doers of tomorrow. #Prep2020 #futureleaders #futurethinkers
15.01.2022 Our passionate teachers have gone above and beyond to ensure the wellbeing of their students and a sense of belonging and community during home learning. One such heartwarming example is this lunch-time Zoom cooking class Christiana David decided to hold with her Year 8 students. Apparently the pizzas were delicious! #teachersforlife #schoolforlife
14.01.2022 The Year 6 Presentation Afternoon in Irving Hall was an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the contribution our Year 6 students have made to the Junior School over the years. We heard wonderful virtual performances from the Montrose Choir, Chamber Strings and Year 6 girls. Our Junior School leaders have demonstrated creativity and innovation in the face of this year's challenges and we have no doubt that they are more than ready to rise to the challenges of Year 7. All the best of luck, girls, and thank you! #schoolforlife #juniorschoolleaders
14.01.2022 Over the next couple of months we'd love to share with you our wonderfully diverse alumnae, their journeys, their perspectives on the path that they have navigated and the skills they have gained. This week we celebrate two of our Class of 2019. We hope you enjoy their stories.
14.01.2022 @nationalscienceweek is Australias annual celebration of science and technology. This year's Science Week was held from 1523 August with virtual tours, online events, DIY science and more. The 2020 theme Deep Blue: innovation for the health of our oceans provided the opportunity for Lauriston students to explore how science and technology is being used to explore, monitor and maintain our fragile aquatic environment. During their science classes, students researched inno...vations from aquatic drones and aquaculture to satellite monitoring systems. They took part in a virtual Deep Blue escape room, applying their knowledge of the ocean to crack the code. Our Years 7 and 8 students analysed Finding Nemo with a focus on the aquatic environment. Stella Wiedemyer and Alex Pye from our Greenies group produced a video that was shown at our virtual Science Week Assembly to inspire everyone to make small changes that will make a difference to the health of our oceans. We were also delighted to have special guest Dr Paul Hardy-Smith attend the Assembly and talk to our students about his career as a veterinarian for sustainable fish farms. #nationalscienceweek2020 #STEM
14.01.2022 We are proud to present our latest Virtual Performance, 'I Look to You', by Lauriana, our Senior-auditioned Choral ensemble. The ensemble rehearsed and recorded the piece during Home Learning and the result is an uplifting reflection of the collaboration and positivity of our students. We are so proud of the Lauriana ensemble and hope their performance gives strength and inspiration to everyone listening. Thanks also to our Music Captains, Olivia Ngo and Jessica Mark, and Campbell Reither for their ongoing support with this wonderful initiative. #virtualperformances #lauristonmusic
14.01.2022 As all our VCE students celebrate the culmination of years of hard work, we acknowledge our VCE dux Claire Lin who was in the top 1% of the state with an ATAR of 99.8 and has been invited to an interview for Medicine at Monash University. We also congratulate Bridget Clarke who achieved a perfect study score of 50 in English. Regardless of their score, our school leavers should all be proud of what they have individually achieved. As Principal Susan Just said at Valedictory: ‘Your future is about the exciting unknown. It is about the possibilities that are open to bright young women like yourselves who have the courage, resilience and passion to have a go and not be afraid, to take up the opportunities and challenges that will come your way, and to embrace change.' #VCE #ATAR #IB
13.01.2022 The moment that we had all been waiting for has finally arrived! We have welcomed the three-year-old children to the new Kindergarten and ELC Village. There was an atmosphere of wonder and curiosity as the children explored the spaces and embraced the new playground with delight. Whilst we acknowledge it is not quite business as usual in the outside community, we are thrilled to say that in Kindergarten it has been smooth sailing and joyful experiences all the way. Regular vi...sits to the new building and playing in the outdoor space prior to moving helped with the smooth transition. We are immensely proud of all our three year olds for the resilience, independence and adaptability they have shown during these unusual times. Every day we watch them leave their parents at the gate and walk into Kindergarten on their own, find their new lockers, and independently organise themselves. They are perhaps more so than any generation before them truly equipped with the skills to thrive in this ever-changing world.
12.01.2022 In place of the annual Blairholme sleepover this year, our teachers designed a special day for the Year 2 girls. The morning kicked off with yoga and meditation on the oval followed by a tour of the Year 3 classrooms and a sneak peek at the art rooms with or wonderful Junior School Art Teacher Mr Abrahams. There was a scavenger hunt, outside games with the PE staff and a Zoom workshop with illustrator Serena Geddes. Other highlights included making disco glasses and some gro...ovy moves at the Year 2 Disco (in the big room) with guest DJ Mrs Conner. They watched a movie and enjoyed a BBQ of Frogs Legs (sausages) cooked by ‘Chef Santamaria’. The girls voted it their Best School Day Ever. #schoolforlife See more

11.01.2022 Year 3 spent Term 4 learning how to create planter boxes using the Design Thinking Process. To link with their learning about 3D shapes in Maths and their Australian Inquiry Unit they worked thoughtfully to design a solution for a 3D planter box that would hold a succulent. Along the way they learnt how to document their learning in via a process journal in the Book Creator app and use the design apps Vectornator and Makercase to create their designs. Their designs were printed in the FabLab. The girls displayed tremendous creativity in their use of materials to produce wonderfully original Australian planter boxes.
11.01.2022 When asked what she most enjoyed about Lauriston, Georgia Finn was quick to identify our unique school community and the real-life opportunities and experiences available. I was Soccer Captain in my final year, and participated in AFL, softball and basketball. I also played the drums and was a part of the Percussion Ensemble and Symphonic Band. I was not the top student nor was I the fastest runner, but one of the most important things I learned from my time at Lauriston, ...in particular Howqua and VCE, was that teamwork and collaboration are vital and that there is nothing that I cannot achieve or succeed in if I put in the hard work. Real-life experiences like Howqua and the Cambodia World Challenge trip taught me organisation and time management skills, as well as helped me forge lifelong friendships. These are all key qualities that I know will stand me in good stead for the future. I am hoping to study medicine at Melbourne University or James Cook University in Queensland, with the lifelong ambition of becoming a trauma surgeon. I also want to establish a number of medical research businesses such as the study of monoclonal antibodies for cancer and addiction treatments. #2020ib #2020vce #classof2020

10.01.2022 For Tilly Campbell, there have been so many aspects of her Lauriston journey that she loved. At Howqua I really came out of my shell and was able to experience new challenges and test my capabilities. I learned to be comfortable with being uncomfortable and this is something I have carried throughout my entire Lauriston journey, especially in rowing. The connections I’ve made are special to me and so unique to Lauriston. Tilly’s positive leadership was evident as Captain o...f Boats and Andrews House Captain in her final year. She was involved in Youth in Philanthropy and Amnesty International and was a peer support leader for our younger students and a Student Rep for SHINE. She received a Debating badge, academic distinctions in Art and Visual Communication and the LAA Arts Encouragement Award. I’ve loved being a part of everything Lauriston has to offer, whether it be sport or other extra-curricular activities. My passion for visual arts and design stemmed from the incredible Arts program Lauriston offers and helped me discover my love of environmental design." Next year Tilly hopes to study Design at Melbourne University and attend Trinity College. #Classof2020 #2020VCE #2020IB

Public speaking is just one of the many opportunities the girls are given throughout their Junior School journey to explore and develop leadership skills. 07.01.2022 Our Kinder children have been investigating what Australia looked like before settlers arrived. The children collected items from the school grounds: sticks, leaves, bark, the wooden ‘stools’ we sit on, and much more. They pondered many questions: What did Indigenous people live in? Where did they get their food? Where did the children go to school? They decided together what was important to include in their replica ‘land’ and foraged for these items. Discussion also turned... to native Australian animals and the children took great pride in designing and creating a mask of their chosen animal. The project demonstrated creativity, curiosity, and much collaboration and communication! Join our next Kindergarten Virtual Open Morning on Wednesday 25 November at 11.30am to find out more about our innovative Kindergarten programs including ‘Listening Deeply’ (Indigenous program), Bush Kinder and Artist in Residence: https://www.lauriston.vic.edu.au/learning/early-learning
07.01.2022 At the end of the month our Year 12s will receive their VCE and IB results, a culmination of hard work, dedication and resilience. But an ATAR does not define our Class of 2020, and over the coming weeks we would like to share some of their stories, highlighting the journey they have navigated, their perspective on what they’ve gained, and their aspirations for the future. We start our stories with Lulu Graham, who began her Lauriston journey in Kindergarten. A truly addict...ed student of the Arts, Lulu has auditioned for theatre schools, completed holiday workshops, been in as many productions as she could juggle in her time at Lauriston and is ready for the challenges of the theatrical world. The collaborative, creative and supportive environment created by Lauriston’s performing arts program and its staff encouraged me to challenge myself as an individual and as a performer. In the 2015 Middle School production of ‘The Music Man’ I discovered my love of storytelling and my passion for providing a voice for individuals who might otherwise be denied a form of expression. Last year I was fortunate to attend the US Performing Arts trip and this immersion into the arts world reinforced my drive for a future centred on telling the stories of others. Next year I am hoping to begin a Bachelor of Communications (Journalism) at RMIT with the goal of providing young people with a voice in mainstream television media. In the future, I would also like to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) and a Master of Fine Arts (Directing) at NIDA. I look back on my time at Lauriston with fond memories. Our tightly knit school community and the many opportunities I was offered have been integral to building my confidence and clarity of purpose. I strongly encourage every student to delve into the rich experiences that can be obtained from the performing arts.
07.01.2022 Next year Lauriston celebrates 120 years! As part of the celebrations, the OLA have introduced Captains' Corner, a place to acknowledge the special role our former School leaders played. Read 2000 School Captain Estelle Frawley's story below and more at www.ola.org.au/#captains'corner
06.01.2022 The Blairholme Market was a raging success this year, despite the challenges of COVID-19 restrictions. The sun was shining and our entrepreneurs were ready to demonstrate their financial literacy and business acumen. The Preps sold everything from bookmarks to pinch pots and even worm juice! The Year 1s continued with their Kindness Shop, where you could purchase heart necklaces or worry dolls to help you sleep better at night. The Year 2s had made some beautiful puzzles of Blairholme and, of course, provided everyone with some tasty snacks. Many of the staff came to support the Market and some girls were even lucky enough to sell out of their stock! Congratulations to the girls for their adaptability and initiative. #STEM #literacyandnumeracy
06.01.2022 Each week our Year 1 girls complete a STEM challenge. Last week they had to design a pirate ship to hold 20 pieces of treasure from a square piece of foil measuring 30cm squared. This beautiful video was created by Year 1 student Elaine. #stemgirls #schoolforlife
06.01.2022 Today we celebrate R U OK? Day. R U OK? is a national charity encouraging people to connect with those around them and support anyone who is struggling. In light of Premier Daniel Andrews recent announcements, the ongoing wellbeing and development of our young people is of increasing concern. For some families, it might be anxiety about transitioning back to School in Term 4. For others, it is the reality that home learning may continue for the remainder of 2020. With this i...n mind, we wanted to share some tips and tricks that we have shared with our students and will hopefully help our School families get through the next couple of months. Focusing on the positives of Home Learning: Acknowledging gratitude for home, family, friends, opportunities to learn and good health. Recognising the benefits of being 'bored' and a less 'busy' lifestyle Learning self-organisation and time management skills The importance of proactively asking teachers for help Renewed sense of self, confidence and decreased pressure to conform An opportunity to reflect and acknowledge personal growth Happy home Learning Tips: Locate a comfortable, quiet space in your home where you can work effectively and successfully. Take regular breaks away from screens. Establish a regular routine and follow the Daily Timetable carefully, ticking off tasks as you complete them. Have a learning goal in mind each day to focus on. Be proactive in asking teachers for support sooner rather than later. Take regular breaks and use break times to drink water, do some physical activity or get some fresh air. Stay connected with friends and family. Engage in all learning posted with academic honesty. To remain positive, at the end of each day focus on sharing 2-3 things with your family about what went well and what you are grateful for. Ensure own social and emotional balance by maintaining healthy eating and sleeping habits. Stay involved with House, Tutor group, clubs and other school activities. Be kind to yourself and others. 05.01.2022 Congratulations to two of our Year 11 students, Jaycy Zeng and Victoria Li, for their incredible achievements these past couple of months. Jaycy Zeng has been selected to attend The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) Year 12 Program in January, a 10-day residential program at the Australian National University or the University of Queensland. This program is designed to give students a broader understanding of the diverse study and career options available in STEM. Victoria... Li sat a rigorous two-hour exam competition and was selected for the Australian Olympiad Biology Summer School. This is a wonderful opportunity to further extend herself in this discipline, connect with subject experts, and develop new friendships with like-minded student from across the country. The Australian International Olympiad team is selected from this cohort. Well done, girls! #STEM #schoolforlife #NYSF
05.01.2022 In a lovely gesture of solidarity, our New & International Parents' Association (NIPA) held a morning tea in the park for the girls who haven't been able to return home. #lauristoncommunity
05.01.2022 It feels like light years ago that COVID-19 restrictions were first imposed, but already we are looking forward to 2021. Over the next couple of weeks our Year 11 students are putting themselves forward for student leadership positions. Each girl will give a 90-second speech during Assembly to introduce herself and provide some insight into her leadership aspirations for the coming year. Speeches delivered so far have covered everything from inclusiveness, kindness and respe...ct to courage, commitment and teamwork. And each speech delivered with confidence, clarity and despite the year that has been creativity, as we heard everything from songs and a rap to likening oneself to a $2 coin smallest is worth the most and learning resilience as a Carlton supporter. The sheer volume of applications this year reflect a readiness for leadership, confidence, and a cohort motivated to give back to their community. These traits will be essential throughout their tertiary studies and careers as our girls will need to have the courage to put their hand up, look for opportunities available to them, and try again if they do not initially succeed. We wish all our Year 12s the best for the remainder of the year and thank them for their courageous leadership during COVID-19, and we look forward to welcoming our new leaders to their tenure as caretakers and mentors of our School community.
04.01.2022 Community is one of Lauriston's core principles and this past year has seen our School community rise to the challenges of COVID-19 and demonstrate leadership and initiative in so many ways, from Food Drives for the vulnerable, Zoom peer mentoring and inspirational messages from our various Captains to virtual music performances and upbeat videos from staff. This speech earlier in the year from one of our Year 6 leaders Nicole K is a heart-warming ode to family and community and is an example of the confidence, courage and humour of a Lauriston girl.

03.01.2022 It has been a challenging year for our School community, and particularly for our Year 12 students who have missed out on so many of the traditional celebrations and pivotal events that mark their final year. This thoughtful gesture by Anna Campbell-Findlay (1989) of Fyna Foods was a touching demonstration of our alumnae support and solidarity for our students. #community #schoolforlife #OldLauristoniansAssociation
02.01.2022 The hard work of Lauriston students, teachers and parents was rewarded today with excellent 2020 VCE results.
