25.01.2022 sweet friends tonight I wanted to take a little step back from the content specific to anxiety and stress management practices, and look at; What is stress ?... Stress is not just an emotional or mental feeling Stress occurs whenever you feel a disruption to your normal function / homeostasis / equilibrium The stressor: is the causative factor for stress. This can be anything that causes a disturbance to your vital force - be it environmental ( ie. pollution, temperature excess ) social ( large crowds, traffic ) physiological ( disease / illness ), or psychological ( worry, rumination, shame, guilt, embarrassment ) All of these things can potentially cause you to then exhibit a stress response ( this cascade is detailed in another infograph which I’ll pop as a swipe image for you ) Whether or not this series of events occurs is actually determined by YOUR perception of the stressor ( according to the cognitive appraisal theory of stress ) ‘Stress’ is a response then that we have to the perceived stressors A stressor need not actually be negative though ! We are able to retrain ourselves to perceive these experiences as beneficial, and when this mindset shift happens - the stress cascade does not occur This is the principle behind diving into ice cold water - the freezing temperature IS a stressor to the body. However when you then train yourself to sit with it, swim through the water / and remain calm, you are telling your body that it is ok. This strengthening of the mind to not perceive such ‘stressors’ as such, will in turn help you stay calm when other stressors come your way ! Such as psychological stressors and the others mentioned above. Hoping this post was helpful or useful - let me know by telling me your thoughts below

24.01.2022 good evening my lovelies Tonight I have something to share that I have recently added to my night time skin routine - this is an Ayurvedic oil by @viaveda_aus I don't really talk about Ayurvedic philosophy on Lavender & Co. because I'm not at all an expert - but it is something I love and really connect with. My partner and I travelled around the east coast of India a couple of years ago and I picked up quite a few books while we were there, saw some Ayurvedic practitioners a...nd had treatments done too. If you are new to Ayurveda, I have made a very summarised overview on the three Doshas ( swipe through to read ) which is how practitioners look at the body types in a holistic way. The face oils from @viaveda_aus are each targeted towards a specific Dosha - helping to bring back balance and address issues for the particular Dosha type. I am a Vata, so using the Caeli oil - which first of all smells heavenly and brings me back to my time spent in India. These oils are also ( of course ) free from nasties ! Now - disclaimer this post is in collaboration with the company - I was gifted this oil but I don't ever recommend anything I don't love and 100% agree with myself. I would love to know - what Dosha type are you ? or at least what do you think you are ? Comment below I'm super interested to know ! Lastly: I have a discount code for you in case you would like to purchase a lovely oil for yourself; use sarah20 at checkout to receive 20% off your purchase.

23.01.2022 Visualise. Affirm. Take action & receive Do you use affirmations ? I love writing my goals out affirmation style as part of my morning ( and sometime night ) routine. It helps set the tone for to day and keep you focussed on the reason behind why you’re doing what you’re doing.

21.01.2022 For the anxious hearts A little practice you may have heard of before - sometimes called the ‘54321 exercise’. This is a great way to get out of your head and back into your body A tool that can be used throughout your day when you start to feel a little stressy, a little bit of angst, a tinge of overwhelm - to help bring you back down to the earth and prevent a total anxious episode... This can also be great when you are in full blown panic to help revenges yourself and with deep breathing can help to switch you back into your parasympathetic state ( rather than your fight and flight sympathetic ) For those of you that don’t know me - I too can fall into anxious states and overwhelm. To naturally have this under control takes daily rituals and routines to rewire your brain and nervous system. If you need any extra help, please reach out via [email protected] to discuss appointments

19.01.2022 something I see a lot in clinic is ‘leaky gut’ or what we call increased intestinal permeability This essentially means the intestinal lining has been damaged - whether it be from dietary, lifestyle or even medications When the intestinal wall is damaged, toxins may be able to leak into the blood stream that are meant to be excreted, and nutrients may not be being properly absorbed... Some symptoms that can result include: bloating nutrient deficiencies undigested foods in stool loose stools skin issues joint pain brain fog fatigue headaches If you think this might be you - please get in touch via dm or email [email protected]

19.01.2022 some morning clinic inspiration / manifestations so looking forward to creating a real space for Lavender & Co. Also - if you’d like a Naturopathy appointment with me, they are now available over the virtual / zoom clinic. Due to it being online I can provide only dietary and lifestyle advice ( nothing dispensed as we can’t access our herbs )... I’m available on Mondays and Wednesday’s from 2:00 - 5:45 Comment below or send through a DM if you’d like more details or want to book in

19.01.2022 Daily self care for your mental well-being These are some of the practices I do everyday to support my mental health and reduce the impact of stress - leave your phone on aeroplane mode for the first couple of hours of your day (minimum 1 hr)... - start with a meditation ( style of your choice ) whether you like guided, mantra, mindfulness - the list goes on, find something that suits you - exercise for 30 minutes. Movement is one of the best ways to come back into your body and be in the present moment. - start a journaling practice to write out your thoughts, release worries and work out beliefs and thought patterns that don’t serve you - do something for yourself that brings you joy. Read, write, create - spend time in and with nature I’d love to hear your mental health self care practices. Comment below

17.01.2022 Beautiful words from @erinlovellverinder and a great reminder to you, my friend. Sometimes healing is a slow journey. A process that takes patience and persistence. There is no quick fix when getting to the root cause of your issues - it is something that often has many layers to be uncovered, as there is so much depth to you as a person. Please remember to be gentle with yourself; especially if you are in the process of healing.... Know that no matter how far along your journey to health you are, I’m sure you are exactly where you need to be in this moment

16.01.2022 My current healthy and motivating morning routine - wake with the sun around 6 - drink a big glass of water and make coffee ( with some nourishing herbs added to it )... - light a candle ( currently enjoying this lovely gifted from @solenn_au ) and read, journal, script, affirm, give thanks, and visualise goals while sipping on coffee. This is my favourite part of my morning routine and is how I start my day positively and feel excited for the day ahead. I have an IGTV on my little manifesting routine detailing these things if you’d like to know more about this. ( it’s called manifest your way to health ) - 30 minutes of exercise: Pilates and then yoga every second day. While exercising I also ensure I’m connecting in with my body. Taking deep breaths. Focussing on what I’m doing and how I’m moving rather than letting my mind wander - I let this serve also as a form of moving meditation - get myself ready for the day ( shower skincare etc. ) while showering / getting ready I usually like to listen to a podcast or pop on a YouTube to continue the positive energy and feelings of motivation. Always love listening to @erinmayhenry podcast ( or YouTube !) as well as @melissaambrosini @manifestationbabe and more - let me know your favourite podcasts below too as I’d love to listen ! - make a healthy breakfast: usually oats, smoothie or sourdough and toppings. Here is when I’d also take my herbal tincture - start work for the day ( by looking at my to do list and what I want to get done - not checking emails and seeing what others want me to do )

13.01.2022 ‘the psyches and souls of women also have their own cycles and seasons of doing and solitude, running and staying,... being involved and being removed, questing and resting, creating and incubating, being of the world and returning to the soul place.’ - Clarissa Pinkola Estés | women who run with the wolves

13.01.2022 hope you’ve all enjoyed your weekend Snap from a little nature walk - if you zoom in you can see a wee little bee heading towards the blooms

12.01.2022 Reminder for your evening

12.01.2022 The four seasons of our cycle as women + Winter is your bleeding days. A time to turn inwards and reflect. Let go of the cycle past and think about the seeds you want to plant for the days ahead. As your bleed comes to an end, begin adding your to dos to your calendar for the month ahead + spring or pre ovulation, energy begins to rise as you have now shed all of your endometrium lining and begin the new cycle. You can begin the work you set out to do, and planted the seed...s for in your winter + summer or ovulation, high energy levels with rising hormones, fertility and abundance as the seeds you planted and tended to come to fruition + autumn, or pre menstruation. Time to begin slowing down, energy levels start to decline once again as you prepare for the winter phase. Tie up loose ends on any projects you have going, to ensure adequate time for rest and rejuvenation in the days ahead I’m sure many of you have heard the reference of women’s cycles to the seasons - but I’d love to know if you actually tune into these, or find it a useful tool for you ? comment your thoughts below

12.01.2022 would love to know your thoughts on this ! Can you tell the difference between intuition and ego talking ? Would you describe the ‘inner voices’ of anxiety vs your higher self or inner knowing in this way ? I do feel like anxiety comes under the ego - the fear based mind that is maybe holding onto past traumas / memories and is trying to keep us safe. In someone with anxiety this may be a louder voice that is more regularly popping up... You intuition is one of guidance - but I do still feel like it can be a gut knowing when something doesn’t feel right ? It is perhaps just not necessarily based in fear - just a knowing I’d really love to hear your opinions on this ! Comment below to discuss

10.01.2022 mentha piperita Thinking of making Sunday mini herbal monographs a weekly occurrence - today I'm going through another common garden herb that you probably have at home; PEPPERMINT Constituents:... Volatile oils including methanol, menthones, menthol acetate and cineole. There are over 100 different constituents within the volatile oils of peppermint though - these are just a few ! We also have anti-inflammatory flavonoids and polyphenols. Actions: Peppermint is an antispasmodic / spasmolytic for smooth muscles ( this is why it can be useful for tummy cramps / bloating etc ). It's also a carminative, antiemetic ( helps with nausea ). Can also be used as a slight cholagogue (stimulates the flow of bile into the duodenum) and is anti inflammatory and antioxidant. Peppermint also has antiseptic and antimicrobial actions. Externally peppermint can also help to relieve pain with slight analgesic effects. Indications: Peppermint is often used for digestive discomfort, to help relieve gas, bloating, dispepsia, spasms in the GIT, and can also be useful for people with IBS symptoms. Also useful for relieving nausea and morning sickness. Topically the oil is great for relieving headaches. Inhaling the essential oil through a vaporiser can be useful in the treatment of respiratory tract infections - and use while studying to enhance cognitive performance. How to use: Like the rosemary you can pick peppermint straight from your garden and brew yourself up a tea ( or purchase my Calm tea to find a lovely little blend of tummy soothing relaxing botanicals, including peppermint !)You can also make this into a tincture - again if you'd like to know how to do this I do have a blog post detailing the different methods. You can also use peppermint fresh in a salad or pop it into your fresh juice or even infuse water overnight. Lastly of course you can purchase peppermint essential oil - to use for headache add a few drops to a roller bottle with some carrier oil of choice, apply to the temples and forehead as needed ( I like to add lavender essential oil for this as well ). Hope you're all enjoying your Sunday and soaking up this sunshine

09.01.2022 an overview of the nervous system divided into two main parts. Firstly the central nervous system: Composed of the brain, spinal cord and retina... the CNS is a network of billions of nerve cells that function in senses, cognition, movement and emotions. Second, the peripheral nervous system: This essentially consists of all nerves that are outside of the brain and spinal cord Within this system there is there are two further divisions - sensory and motor aspects. The sensory side is afferent - and sends signals to the CNS. This section is further classified into somatic and visceral senses The motor side is efferent, sending messages from the CNS to your muscles. Again divided further we have the somatic nervous system which is involved in skeletal muscle innervarion. Then there is the autonomic nervous system The autonomic nervous system / ANS is also divided into: the sympathetic, parasympathetic and enteric nervous systems This is essentially how the nervous system is organised and categorised - and I’m hoping this post can be saved and used as a bit of a reference point for whenever this terminology comes up ! Stay tuned for future posts going into the details of each aspect of the nervous system

09.01.2022 some physical manifestations of anxiety most of these are long term effects rather than the immediate symptoms someone with anxiety might experience.. But since anxiety is an ‘invisible’ issue these are the physical health complaints that can arise from unmanaged anxiety.... Why? There are different mechanisms involved for each of these presentations. Some commons threads include constantly elevated cortisol levels creating imbalances throughout the body, high inflammation, not allowing the body time for rest and digest processes, and much more. Have any of these things presented for you ? ( if so, know that a naturopath can be a great ally in getting to the real cause of these issues - your stress and or anxiety, and not just give you a bandaid cure for the SYMPTOMS that have presented ) - link in bio for appointments

09.01.2022 enjoying the sunshine with my floofer

08.01.2022 some garden / outdoor area inspo Plus - another tangible practice for anxiety management; regarding those racing thoughts that can leave you feeling frazzled and exhausted before you even start your day 1. Write everything that’s coming to mind down. You can do this throughout your day - first thing in the morning is good if you wake feeling anxious about your to do list. Carry a notebook with you during the day ( or just use your phone and compile later ) to write down a...nything that pops up 2. Sort through your list. Is there anything you can now delegate to someone else ? Is there anything hat can just be scratched ? Look at the tasks you need to complete and then think about them in order of importance and also necessity. Put your most important and urgent ( ie. due first ) tasks at the top of your list and then work your way down from there 3. Actually schedule time to complete said tasks. Whether you book yourself an appointment in google calandra, use a bullet journal, notepad, reminders - whatever works for you but schedule an amount of time to actually work on each of your tasks. All of this helps to put your mind at ease and be able to actually focus in on the things you want to do - rather than circling back and forth and constantly worrying about all of the tasks that need to be completed. Whether you have high functioning anxiety or just a million things on your plate and can end up feeling overwhelmed - I hope this is a helpful practice for you Enjoy your day lovelies ! Images all via @pinterest Ps. Anyone else love hydrangeas ?!

06.01.2022 happy weekend my lovelies 3 quick and easy practices to help stop over thinking: use the 5 second rule (when you start thinking about whether you should do something or not just count to 5 and either do it or don’t )... watch your thoughts and don’t attach yourself to them as they come in - question why you’re thinking that use the 2 minute rule ( if something takes less than 2 minutes to complete don’t add it to your to do list or think about it, just do it ! ) Hope you’re all having a nice weekend and enjoying this sunshine

04.01.2022 The essence of blackberry flower Blackberry is indicated for those with many desires or dreams but perhaps procrastinates or lacks motivation to take action Blackberry flower essence enables one to manifest their ideas into the external world... The 5 point flower is representative of the human body and its limbs - directing its energy to these parts and the act of doing what it is we set out to do Blackberry bushes have string and deep root systems, giving the essence of being grounded If you are feeling uninspired, lethargic, perhaps apathetic - the essence of blackberry may be able to help you shift these feelings and promote a fresh, energised energy photos captured in my sister in laws garden ( and yes this is growing intentionally ) Have you ever taken flower essences before ?
