15.01.2022 Today was a great morning to have a Sunday training session and get back into some football after the week off last Sunday, due to Fathers Day! I love what I saw today ladies! So well done! Pat on the back is needed! We had a few key goals that we worked on during the session, they were: ... - focusing on the ball before thinking about disposing it. - marking the football whilst continuing to move forward then kick. Here we practiced steadying before kicking and completing it in one motion. - marking the ball out in front of our chest. I think that we did a fantastic job in working towards our goals for the session. We worked really hard to work on these goals as a team but also on our individual goals. I love how focused you all are during our training sessions! The support of the ladies is so inspiring. You all bring so much energy, enthusiasm and commitment to training and will help each other through any task that is thrown your way! Well done ladies its so awesome to see and so awesome to be able to say that you are all my team mates! Keep working hard and keep striving high as together I believe we can achieve anything we put our minds too! #thefutureisbright

11.01.2022 Good afternoon all, Here is a snap shot of what we achieved today! Well done to the 8 ladies who came to training today! It was pretty windy and with the small numbers it made us really have to focus and be switched on! ... Todays focus was mostly around kicking. We started the session with our warm ups, then went into a Criss Cross handball drill. Here we continued to work on watching the ball for 2 seconds before deciding what to do next with the ball. We also aimed to handball to the next persons chest level, so that they can mark the ball and be off! We then worked on our kicking ... We started kicking to our partner about 10 meters apart. The goal was too: - focus on our partner (our target) and be able to kick to a short target. - we wanted to "hit" our partner at chest level - once marked we wanted to push back and then walk forward and kick. This is especially important as it teaches us to move back once weve taken a mark, if we decide to not play on in a game situation. We spent about 15-20 minutes working on our kicking goals, it was great to see us understand, improve and celebrate together when we kicked it well! We then finished the session with a running/sprinting/kicking drill. I set up my agility sticks so that the girls had to use their speed to get around the sticks, all whilst holding the ball under their arm. Once they got closer to the "gates" they had to steady then kick. We had the receiver pushing across to the cone where the ball had to be kicked too. The person receiving the ball had to use their voice but also time their run so that they were in the correct position to receive to football. We really focused on sprinting around the poles, thinking that the poles were an opposition player. Then steadying before kicking, this is especially important as we didnt want to hook the ball and kick across our body, we wanted to see our target and try and hit them up. This drill was a little bit more advanced today, and you all did an amazing job! We had quite a few things to think about and do in the one drill but your efforts today showed me that you were ready for the challenge! We will continue to work on this and these type of drills, which really helps with understanding what needs to be done in a game! Again, well done today ladies! I love your energy, your drive, your commitment, enthusiasm and friendship! Your all doing amazing things so keep working hard and never stop trying! Go Magpies!

09.01.2022 We are extremely sad to announce the sudden passing of our former player & great mate, Abooma Booma Abdi. The Laverton Magpies Football Club would like to send our deepest condolences to his friends and family at this sad time. Booma was a handy player who come up through the juniors in the early 2000s and eventually become quite a handy senior player. ... Unfortunately work commitments stopped him from playing recently, but he always popped in to say hello which was greatly appreciated by us all. You will be missed mate, our thoughts are with Boomas family and friends. RIP
08.01.2022 Its been a while since Ive had a chance to share with you all what the women of Laverton FC have been up too. Over the last few weeks we have been lucky enough to have the assistance of some of the men who have trained with us. Their ability to communicate with us, help us learn and show us what we needed to do was invaluable to our learning and improvement. We thank you for helping mentor us and look forward to continuing to build on our journey together as a club. ... We also have changed our training night to Monday and Wednesday evenings, this is for the pre season period and will coincide with the mens training times. This allows us to train together as a football club and provide assistance to each other if and when needed. This footage was from Monday night, our first Monday training session. Our numbers were a little bit low due to the change of days and players having to change around their commitments. We are still looking for any senior women who might be interested in playing football for 2018. Our team culture is built around friendship, inclusion, fun, improvement and support. We also are a family friendly club (as you can see in the video ). We welcome the idea of bring your children to training and also being a part of the team/club. We believe that not only you have to be happy at our club but also your family! Our club will be having a stall THIS SUNDAY (19th of November) at the Laverton Festival, between 11am to 4pm. If you are in the area come and say hey ... we would love to have a chat to you about our club and the exciting things that are ahead for Laverton Magpies FC!

05.01.2022 T H A N K Y O U T O S A R A H L A M P A R D On behalf of the Senior Women at the Laverton Magpies Football Club we would like to thank Sarah Lampard, Melbourne FC AFLW player for coming down to training tonight and sharing her knowledge of the game with us all. Sarah told us her story about how she became involved with AFL and how she got to where she is today with the Melbourne Football Club. As she was sharing her story the connection of enjoyment of the game was p...resent in the ladies faces! It was evident that this game that we play means more to us than just what we can showcase in games, its a bond that is bigger than who we are as people, its a game that utilises the idea that we are one for all and all for one, its a game that brings everyone together and creates a lifestyle that is so addictive and positive and can help us tackle any adversity as long as we do it together! As we listened to Sarah I could see our minds ticking over and making a connection to Sarahs wise words. We have only been playing together for a short time but one thing that is for sure is that our bond is already super tight ... and I CAN NOT WAIT TO SHOWCASE WHAT WE HAVE LEARNT! We then focused on the fundamentals of football with Sarah, handballing and kicking being the main two skills. We worked on moving back after taking a mark and making sure that our stride lengths are short and steady as this will provide us with momentum as we move forward and dispose of the football! We also continued to work on backing each other up and nice loud calls when receiving the ball! Sarahs ability to share with us what she has learnt over her football journey was priceless. We gained so much from having you here tonight Sarah and we had such a great night! Also Id like to thank, Nish Moses from AFL Vic for organising Sarah to be able to come down and also Katherine Nancarrow for working with Nish to be able to arrange tonights session! Also a big thank you to the girls for coming down tonight and being a part of the session! And a big thank you to Mase for capturing these photos and videos, your a champion Mason! Thank you all very much! Please enjoy a small video from tonights training session! If you too would like to join in the fun and experience playing a team sport where everyone is super supportive and encouraging, then please contact us to join in the fun! Kind regards, Abbey and Laverton Team! https://www.facebook.com/abbey.brow/posts/10213534325493065

We would also like to thank Matt Frost for coaching us since forming our team mid way through last year. We appreciate all you have done for our team and are thankful for all we have learnt.
