19.01.2022 There have been some significant changes to the Government restrictions for community sport overnight which you can access via the link below on the DHHS websit...e. No further specific announcements are expected today for community sport. Significantly, changes to the dates for contact training and competition for adults have been removed. This now reads as: Further announcements on return to contact training and full-contact competition for adults will be made in July . Juniors appear to be as per previous advice, but crowds are down from 20 to groups of 10 and now reads as: - For people aged 18 years and under, full-contact training and competition may resume. There are no limits on the number of people per group activity or class if all participants are 18 years old or younger. - Spectators for training and competitions must abide by public gathering restrictions spectators should be in groups of no more than 10 people in open, outdoor venues and spread out around the ground or venue. 14.01.2022 AFL North East Border has confirmed that the Regions Umpires will take a 20% pay cut to assist in reducing cost should leagues commence the 2020 season. In maki...ng the announcement, AFLNEB acknowledged that Umpires are a vital component of the game and like clubs had been training in earnest prior to the COVID-19 pandemic forced the postponement of the season. Like players, Umpires are also keen to participate should the season commence with over 90 individual umpires responding to a recent survey to confirm their level of commitment and readiness said Umpire Manager Michael Bocquet. The AFLNEB Commission endorsed the Umpire Advisory Groups recommendation of a 20% reduction in fees which is consistent with other country and metro umpiring bodies he said. AFLNEB Region General Manager said that it was pleasing to see the level of commitment and that umpires were prepared to accept a 20% cut to reduce the financial pressures expected in a shortened season whilst ensuring the support and development of umpiring is maintained. In determining the appropriate reduction in fees, we need to be conscious that the decisions we make now will have consequences in the future, therefore a 20% reduction supports our retention and recruitment strategy for umpires he said. Returning to training has been problematic for Umpires to date with ground access and protocols however, under coach Peter Andreskie, processes are underway to recommence preparations in anticipation of a season commencing in July.
