24.01.2022 Preferred Lawn Mowing Tip of the Day: If for some reason your lawn has gotten really long and overgrown, dont try and mow it all back at one time. Just mow one-third of the grass or less and then let it recover for three or four days and then take off another one-third. By slowly getting your lawn back to its optimum height, you wont stress it as much. http://www.preferredlawnmowing.com.au/

23.01.2022 Preferred Lawn Mowing Tip of the Day: During autumn and winter your lawn needs as much sunlight as possible. Make sure that leaves dropped from deciduous trees and lawn clippings are kept to an absolute minimum. Leaves and lawn clippings left on your lawn will often lead to killing off areas of grass by starving it of air and sunlight.

10.01.2022 The cold snap is coming, its time to prepare for winter conditions. Check out this article from our mate Don Bourke on how to prepare and care for you lawn during the winter months: http://www.burkesbackyard.com.au//preparing-the-lawn-for/

10.01.2022 Preferred Lawn Mowing tip of the day: Cutting the grass removes nutrients from the grass, nutrients that have to be replaced in order to achieve maximum growth. So, from the beginning of spring, you should fertilise the lawn every four or five weeks. Nitrogen, potassium and phosphorous are necessary and mixes of special lawn fertilisers are readily available at your local garden retailer. How much to use is carefully indicated on the packages. http://www.preferredlawnmowing.com.au/

07.01.2022 Roses in Winter?? What do I do? As a general rule, June/July is the perfect time to prune roses throughout Queensland. Exceptions do apply to some varieties. Always wait for the final flower to blossom before you prune, especially with climbing roses. If you live in a cool climate where frosts are common, wait until the last frost has finished for the season. Pruning too early can damage new growth, especially if a severe frost hits before your roses have a chance to recover from the pruning wound.

06.01.2022 Preferred Lawn Mowing tip of the day: Regular cutting of the lawn is important because it thickens the grass, little and often is better than all in one go. Switch directions and patterns each time you mow, so that the grass straws arent pushed in the same direction every time. For each cut, the rule of thumb is to shorten the stem by around half to two-thirds to approximately 5 centimetres. In the middle of the summer, you might want to keep the grass a little longer, as it withstands periods of draught better. http://www.preferredlawnmowing.com.au/

06.01.2022 Preferred Lawn Mowing Tip of the Day: Grass grows fastest and is at its healthiest, in the warmer months, so decreasing your cutting height down to 2.5cm wont affect it too much. During cooler months, grass grows much slower so its a good idea to raise your cutting height a little so as not to damage it. As a general rule, its wise not to cut your grass lower than 2.5cm. The big risk of mowing low is scalping which browns your grass. Scalp your lawn repeatedly and you risk weakening it, allowing more weeds and diseases to take hold. http://www.preferredlawnmowing.com.au/

05.01.2022 Preferred Lawn Mowing Tip of the Day: When you mow, overlap each pass by at least 3 inches (7.5 cm). This ensures an evenly mowed lawn with no missed strips. http://www.preferredlawnmowing.com.au/

02.01.2022 Preferred Lawn Mowing Tip of the Day: Use leftover tea and coffee grounds to acidify the soil of acid-loving plants such as azaleas, rhododendrons, camellias, gardenias and even blueberries. A light sprinkling of about one-quarter of an inch applied once a month will keep the pH of the soil on the acidic side. http://www.preferredlawnmowing.com.au/
