24.01.2022 A special visitor, Clodagh (who was a Lawson preschooler a few years ago) shared her amazing Irish dancing with us today. Changing shoes and demonstrating different types of Irish dancing was very exciting to see.
24.01.2022 Where are you horses? Just before lunch, we took a short stroll while the sun was shining. No horses today, but we sang a few songs and enjoyed the fresh air anyway.
24.01.2022 Two birthdays to celebrate on the first day back, how great was that?! A very warm welcome to term 2, we have lots of exciting things planned.
24.01.2022 Have you spotted Billy Booksie around the mountains this week? Its National Reading Week! Sounds like there are some books at Gloria Park, if you are in that area.
24.01.2022 Happy Harmony Day! Every day this coming week, we will be focusing (even more) on promoting inclusion and diversity. We are hoping for a sea of orange, so please encourage your child to wear orange clothes if they have any. Thank you everyone
24.01.2022 Amy, our volunteer and Lawson Preschool alumni, has been working with us on Thursday mornings. Last week, Amy brought in her old preschool photos and shared her memories of Lawson Preschool with the children. We all loved seeing how much the preschool has changed over the years.
22.01.2022 The first five years of life are crucial to childrens cognitive, social and emotional development. This is Early Learning Matters Week 2020, and its the perfect time to say thank you and well done for supporting the children in your life to attend early education.
22.01.2022 We play outside every day. Even if its very cold & raining we can usually get out for a game under the shade cloths. Carmelita has been wearing her coat, reminding everyone that they need to bring a warm coat every single day.
21.01.2022 We received a big surprise in the sandpit this morning. A very exciting visitor indeed. We think it may be a Striped Marsh Frog.
21.01.2022 The worm farm (and the veggie garden) received some TLC on Sunday. Look at the way the scraps from the beautiful fruit and vegetables that you send to preschool every day, gets turned magically into compost by worms.
21.01.2022 The campsite By E, J and M. These natural materials began in the science investigation area a few weeks ago, now they are being explored in a different way with dough.
21.01.2022 Why was the frog in our sandpit?
20.01.2022 We were so fortunate to have one of our preschool familys, share aspects of their Japanese culture with us this today. Masako, arigato (thank you) for teaching us about Tanabata (the star festival).
17.01.2022 We hope everyone who celebrates Fathers Day had a lovely day yesterday and enjoyed the little surprise from your child. Now that the weather is more pleasant, we have the clay table set up in the bush land area. Its been a busy place today!
17.01.2022 Thank you Fire and Rescue NSW. Firefighters Emma, Mark, Kurt and Linda you were fantastic at sharing your knowledge with us. We appreciate and value all the work you do in the community.
16.01.2022 This book A Dark Dark Tale by Ruth Brown is a favourite amongst many children. It inspires lots of ‘dark’ tales, often with inventive punchlines! Today, we added the lantern to create more atmosphere for our storytellers.
16.01.2022 Today is National Sorry Day and it marks the beginning of Reconciliation week 2020. After a yarn up in the morning, we decided to make sorry hands to acknowledge our empathy and respect for all Indigenous people. We looked at Indigenous art to inspire the colours and lines used on the hands.
16.01.2022 A puppet show- The Very Hungry Caterpillar!
15.01.2022 Today is....R U OK? Day. A day to reflect on mental health. One common response in our recent family survey was the inability to talk privately with educators, due to the new covid safe procedures. Please know that if you would like to speak in person about a private issue, let us know and we can provide a space for that to happen. https://www.ruok.org.au/join-r-u-ok-day
15.01.2022 Our worm farm has been a fantastic resource to embed sustainability into our program, reduce our waste and provide worm juice (liquid gold!) for many gardens. Children are very proud of their efforts, collecting worm juice for families and educators. We now want to go further in reducing waste and implement a new PRESCHOOL COMMUNITY COMPOST STATION for families to utilise also. We hope to purchase a tumbling style compost bin in the next couple of weeks. Please post any comments below, we would love your feedback...
15.01.2022 * Update* The response so far has been FANTASTIC! Thank you to everyone who has completed the survey. There is still time if you would like to give feedback. You can access it here and complete on any device. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6L87ZJQ

13.01.2022 We were absolutely delighted to receive this new mat from one of our families today. Thank you for your generosity, it will be very well loved.
12.01.2022 Lots of families shared with us that St Patrick’s Day is important for them, so we celebrated all things green today. We hunted for shamrocks in the grass, ate a lovely green morning tea, made some green cream cheese, (surprisingly a real winner)then practised spreading the cream cheese on toast.
12.01.2022 A huge THANK YOU families for using the sanitiser at our gates and following the one way arrows as you drop off and pick up your child. We appreciate that its not always easy saying quick goodbyes in the mornings, however the health and safety of everyone is vitally important. Thank you for your constant support and understanding.
11.01.2022 Hi everyone, We hope you have had a chance to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather as much as possible in these challenging times. Preschool returns tomorrow, Monday 27th April 2020. We will continue using the same drop off and pick up procedures as we did at the end of term 1. Thank you so much for your co-operation and support with this. The children have also been amazing, adapting quickly to these changes!

08.01.2022 It’s PARTY TIME! This is our final week of preschool for 2020 and we are celebrating! On Tuesday and Thursday this week we will be providing ice cream, pop corn and cup cakes (as requested by children) after lunch. So please send only a small packed lunch on those days so there’s room for treats.
08.01.2022 It can be a little scary for children when lots of people start wearing face masks, so this week we have had lots of discussion about it. Yesterday, we made Carmelita a mask out of fabric and children decorated it. This inspired lots of children to create their own to use in play. You may find this article from SMH interesting to read. https://www.smh.com.au//how-to-explain-masks-to-children-w
07.01.2022 We were really lucky to have a special musical experience with Osama who brought in his electric drum kit to play a variety of music from all over the world. The children loved dancing along to the beats and patterns.
07.01.2022 We went to the theatre today, to watch a puppet show. The children helped prepare, by colouring in their ticket and then assisted educators to place chairs in numerical order. Children practised mathematical skills by matching their ticket number to their numbered chair. We videoed the puppet show (in post below) for children to watch with their families at home. Enjoy!
07.01.2022 Its National Science Week....and we are off to a flying start....learning about decomposition with our new tumbling compost bin AND today we have been collecting materials to use in our frog habitat artworks. We sang about Gunggung (frogs) in Darug language during yarn up.

07.01.2022 After a very busy morning filming for the Darug language project, we took an afternoon walk to one of our favourite places. Apparently there is a new resident cow, we didn’t see it today but hopefully next time.
06.01.2022 Sem has been working with the children on a large threading sculpture. Its hanging up in our bush land area. This morning we found long pieces of bark, however we still need more. Perhaps you could go on a bark adventure in your backyard or street and collect some for us? We would be most appreciative!

04.01.2022 HAPPY EARTH DAY! We learnt about looking after our world with discussions, stories, dancing to a song, and planting flowers. As the soil was tipped into the pots we celebrated, saying proudly, HAPPY EARTH DAY!
04.01.2022 Its that super fun time of year when the fire pit appears again. Youd be so impressed by the list of safety rules the children thought of, before they cooked their marshmallows.

02.01.2022 Over the past couple of weeks, maps have become an interest for many children. Some have drawn on paper, the soft fall and even made detailed maps out of collage materials. Educators have extended this learning during group times, strengthening those early literacy and numeracy skills.
02.01.2022 Most local primary schools have begun the ‘transition to school’ orientation process this week. We have a social story from each school to share with our preschoolers. Also, we asked children what we needed to set up our own school play area. One child thought bricks, others thought a library and school bags and another thought a place to learn. Dressing up in uniforms was also very popular today!
02.01.2022 Science is embedded into the program everyday, however, this week there has been a focus on hypothesis, investigation and experimentation. It has been so much fun learning about air, wind, kites, parachutes, pumps, balloons, bubbles, colour, tadpoles, frogs, sinking/floating, microscopes....
01.01.2022 The busy ball run is back up and running. While this may look like a simple game, these children are engaged in a rich learning experience. Team work, turn taking, communication, fine motor, hand/eye coordination just to name a few skills being practised.
01.01.2022 We are so looking forward to (safely) welcoming everyone back for a wonderful term 3 On Thursday, educators reflected on the changes we have made due to COVID and how this impacts our relationships with children, families and the community. We would love families to share thoughts and feelings on this also, so stay tuned for a survey coming soon! **As of tomorrow, we have decided to reverse the entry/exit to protect the privacy of children using the bathrooms. Families wi...ll now drop off and collect children under the covered verandah. Do not worry, we will have plenty of signs to make it clear and provide space for social distancing. **Please follow NSW Health information, and in particular, if you have travelled to any confirmed COVID hotspot locations over the school holidays. https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/latest-news-and-updates Thank you so much for your support in keeping our preschool safe.
