25.01.2022 Myths and Facts about Grass Fires with the upcoming start of the fire season
25.01.2022 Lawson Brigade had our monthly meeting last night and our members were presented with their Citation Certificates for their hard work throughout 2019/2020 fires. Thank you Nick Medianik for presenting these, and to everyone who received these, a tough time had, and not one easily forgotten.
24.01.2022 It will be some time before we can all get together at our next Volunteer Family Days, but the RFS Chaplains are always available to provide support when it's n...eeded most. After the trauma of the devastating fires and isolation brought on by Covid-19, life has been pretty rough for many volunteers and their families. If you’re struggling, or know someone who’s doing it tough, know that the amazing RFS Chaplains are there to help. Whether it’s a sympathetic ear, support or intervention during a crisis, caring for or visiting someone who’s sick, or spiritual support, there’s a helping hand close by. To contact the Chaplaincy & Family Support Team please call 1800 049 933

08.01.2022 Briefing for the Old Northern HR is underway! Approximately 100 NSWRFS volunteers from the Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai, The Hills and Northern Beaches RFS Districts... have taken time off today for a mid-week hazard reduction (HR) at Maroota-Wisemans Ferry from Wednesday to Friday this week. The HR has been 4 years in the planning, and has been postponed multiple times for many reasons including weather conditions and traffic arrangements. Optimum weather conditions will allow an opportunity for crews to undertake a low and slow controlled burn in the area. Thank you to the community for your patience and understanding! Please be aware that: Firefighting crews and vehicles will be operating in and around the area, including on roads. There will be changed traffic conditions in the area throughout the day. Visibility and air quality will be affected by smoke. Trees may continue to fall after the burn and that the area may be unsafe. Walking tracks in the area will remain closed until further notice to allow for crews to ensure the safety of the area for residents and community. Please exercise extra caution throughout the day. Please remember to only call 000 if you see a fire without any firefighting crews about. Did you know that you can find out information about planned hazard reduction burns at the NSW Rural Fire Service website? Visit https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-informati/hazard-reductions for more information.
