25.01.2022 Thank you to the OVER 100 people who protested at the PORT OF NEWCASTLE regarding the recent massacre of the Breakwall cats. https://www.nbnnews.com.au//protestors-demand-action-aft/

24.01.2022 Police accidentally shoot family pet A Cooma family’s pet dog was accidentally shot and killed by a local police officer while euthanising an injured kangaroo in Nioka Place, Cooma North, on Wednesday September 9. Nicole Byrne arrived at her property in Nioka Place to find a seriously injured kangaroo in the front driveway. LAOKO Wildlife Rescue had already been contacted by the neighbours, but they were unable to euthanise the animal due to it being in a residential area, s...o the matter was referred instead to the police. Nicole waited in her car at the end of the driveway until police arrived, at which point she went next door to comfort the neighbour’s children while an officer went to euthanise the injured kangaroo with his police-issue sidearm. The animal had by then moved down the side of the property along a steel fence facing Snowy Oval. I went to keep the neighbour’s kids company while it was being done. Then I heard the two gunshots, Nicole said. After hearing the shots, I started back across to my place and as I was coming down the driveway I heard the officer say ‘oh my god, I’ve shot a dog.’ The dog was a six-year-old terrier-cross named Chloe, the beloved pet of Nicole’s youngest son Cory. At the time of the shooting, the kangaroo was in front of a steel fence, on the other side of which was Chloe. The bullets passed through the kangaroo and through the fence... See more

22.01.2022 Thank you Andy Meddick. It is fantastic to see these important LONG NEGLECTED issues in the Victorian Parliament.
21.01.2022 Commencing on the 6th of October, NSW Government Ministers from the Liberal National Party Coalition will be holding a cabinet meeting to determine critical decisions about the Guidelines which underpin the current koala protection State Environment Planning Policy (SEPP). In NSW, precious and iconic koalas are endangered and face a bleak future. Experts warn that their extinction is imminent without urgent action and stronger protective legislation. The SEPP and its Guidelines are patently inadequate and any further weakening will see koalas go extinct in NSW in the immediate future. Please act now.

19.01.2022 This was Weasley (named after the Harry Potter character). A woman found this friendly and gentle cat hiding under her car, and after two days, it appeared she ...still hadn’t eaten. She called her Weasley and took her to the vet because the cat wasn’t microchipped, the vet said she had to be surrendered so she could be checked over and spayed. The woman was worried about what would happen to Weasley, and she asked them to put her name on the microchip so she could keep her safe. The vet assured her that, because Weasley was so tame, she would be treated and the woman could claim her in 7 days. Exactly 7 days later, the woman followed up but there was no record of Weasley anywhere. The vet said the council picked her up but they wouldn’t return the woman’s phone calls. It was only when the woman posted publicly on Facebook that the council called her. The council said they dropped Weasley at a large animal shelter. The woman went directly to the shelter and checked every area of the facility but there was no sign of Weasley and no record of her being there. She wouldn’t let the matter drop and eventually, a vet from the shelter rang her, saying they "found" Weasley’s paperwork. Weasley had been deemed feral and killed the same day she arrived. The woman and her family were distraught as they had wanted to adopt Weasley. The council apologised and explained that the cat was moved into a cage with the old paperwork attached. They killed Weasley, thinking she was a completely different cat, one that didn't even match her description. This is how little regard is given to individual animals in the "care" of our pounds and shelters. Weasley was never given a chance, despite her having a loving home that would have taken her in. Sign the petition so that rescue groups have the legal right to save a cat like Weasley. You must be a Victorian resident (scroll down to "Click here to sign"): https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au//view-e-p/details/12/192 RIP Weasley (Shared with permission.)

18.01.2022 Keep writing people. Glad to see that puppy farms have no social licence to operate The Adelaide Plains Council has received hundreds of emails protesting against development applications to build large-scale dog kennels in Adelaide's north. Opponents are labelling it a "puppy farm".... Key points: If approved, 300 dogs would be housed in 114 kennels The council has received more than 330 emails in opposition to the proposal Critics say "the clear intention of these developments is to breed dogs in huge number for financial gain" Three hundred dogs would be housed in just over 100 kennels on two adjacent properties, with a combined land size of 2 hectares. https://www.abc.net.au//adelaide-residents-prote/12867324
18.01.2022 Police are interviewing a man in the wake of a worker at a Melbourne animal shelter being tied up by a gunman dressed in "military-style clothes" who then asked where the cats were kept. https://www.abc.net.au//melbourne-animal-shelter/13050160
17.01.2022 What these people who keep doing this don't realise is that most of my work is done via REFERRALS. These come from rescue groups, dog trainers, vets, fellow lawyers and barristers, Animal Welfare League, RSPCA etc and surprise surprise, even some council rangers/animal management officers/council managers/councillors. So all attempts to sabotage my business have failed and will continue to FAIL, rest assured of that - Anne

14.01.2022 Strawberry left to rot GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING Working at the farm became unbearable, Anna said, after a boxer named Strawberry died earlier this year after being made to breed under the age of one.... She said Strawberry only managed to birth three pups in February, when she fell ill because there were other puppies left rotting inside her. It was a very horrible thing to see, she was covered in flies, the first time I had seen her, and the smell of her was like death, Anna said. [The owner] had gone into the pen [Strawberry] was in and nudged her with his foot while saying, ‘Are you dead yet?’, and was laughing about it. Anna said Strawberry had been earlier bathed by another worker who found parts of the dead puppies, together with maggots, in her vagina and mouth. She was basically rotting from the inside out and that would be why she smelt of death, Anna said. And not once did [the owner] show any enthusiasm of taking Strawberry to the vet to have a caesarean or to get the medical treatment she needed. https://www.smh.com.au//puppy-farm-sting-strawberry-the-bo
13.01.2022 Good evening everyone, Di here from TSCP, I thought it would be nice to share a heart warming photo with you. This is beautiful Rosie, she is sitting on my loun...ge with Tommy another of the breakwall kitties we rescued. When I caught Rosie I made a promise to her that she would never ever have to worry about anybody hurting her ever again! She will live her life surrounded by other cats in a safe environment, she will have a fully enclosed backyard with a garden, lots of cat scratch poles, lots of good food and 2 people that love their cats more than you could ever imagine. Thank you all so very much for the support you have given in so many many ways! You can be sure the volunteers are going above and beyond to help save the breakwall cats, we will not give up and we will get justice for the cats. Thank you!

11.01.2022 A MESSAGE TO SUNSHINE COAST RESIDENTS AND RATEPAYERS. It is the CEO who instructs the lawyers, not the lawyers who instruct the CEO. You are entitled to ask questions of the CEO and direct them via councillors or directly to the CEO.
10.01.2022 Good on you Gladys Berejiklian for being a strong leader on this issue. Land clearing has to stop and some farmers need to realise the RAPE AND PILLAGE mentality when it comes to the natural environment has to stop. Look at what has happened to the management of water in this great land. Not only is the koala issue important to many Australians, koalas have special significance to Indigenous people and that should not be forgotten.... People from other countries overseas also love our beautiful koalas. THEY MUST BE PROTECTED!!!!!
09.01.2022 Sadly this is an all too familiar story.
09.01.2022 This is what happens when laws are designed to criminalise whistleblowers - not stop animal cruelty. This was the second time I have reported this backyard slau...ghterhouse, alongside Farm Transparency Project. Both times, it has been the same outcome. Absolutely disgraceful.
08.01.2022 It is beyond despicable that owners allow their dogs and cats to slowly die of neglect, dehydration and starvation. I hope the RSPCA threw the book at the owner who "could not see anything wrong" - Unbelievable.
08.01.2022 Disappointing but not surprising NSW's Deputy Premier John Barilaro says sections of the Kosciuszko National Park should be free of feral horses and overall numbers should be cut to as low as 600, a dramatic shift from his previous positions. We must reduce the number of brumbies, whether it’s down to 600, 1000, or 3000," Mr Barilaro told the Herald, adding that there are parts of the park that should have zero horses".... https://www.smh.com.au//changed-tune-barilaro-says-parts-o

07.01.2022 A MESSAGE TO SUNSHINE COAST RESIDENTS AND RATEPAYERS. There is a council meeting on Thursday 10 December 2020. A number of people have contacted this page and phoned us regarding council's refusal/failure to answer the 23 Questions put to them regarding the SARGE/KARA CHAPLIN CASE. One of the councillors needs to put these questions to the CEO - in a formal capacity - prior to the meeting on 10 December. If you wish to speak at the council meeting you also need to request to... do this prior to the meeting. In my opinion it is reprehensible that council appear to think it is OK to kill Sarge before answering the 23 questions. Why did they feel the need to kill Sarge so urgently? Did they really think people would go away after his destruction? Another question people have asked is what are councils legal costs? I have not been advised of the councils legal costs by their lawyer, but I have had unconfirmed reports that the costs of councils legal costs and impounding costs are from $57,000 to $70,000. People are querying if this is a proper use of ratepayers money. Questions need to be answered and many Sunshine Coast residents remain concerned about the unanswered questions and how Ms Chaplin was treated.

04.01.2022 PLEASE SHARE WITH ALL WILDLIFE GROUPS AND ESPECIALLY WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN HARASSED AND BULLIED This is fantastic news and about time. This relates to NSW Wildlife groups... This bit is especially pertinent as some groups use location (and designated borders) as a way of controlling people and STOPPING them from caring for animals. NOTE ********From next month, in the biggest overhaul to the sector in years, volunteers will be free to join neighbouring groups as a way of managing interpersonal conflicts. Previously they could only do so if the two groups had a memorandum of understanding**********. https://www.smh.com.au//government-tackles-toxic-culture-c
02.01.2022 Great to see WA people making a stance for Strawberry the Boxer who died a horrific death at a puppy factory in NSW. All states need to ban Puppy Farms (Factories) and ban selling puppy farm pups in pet shops.
01.01.2022 Here is an article I wrote 3 years ago for the ACT Law Society journal. If you receive documentation from council relating to a dog attack or if council is intending to declare your dog Dangerous or Menacing DO NOT IGNORE IT. Councils take dog attacks seriously and you should seek legal advice immediately. https://www.australiandoglover.com//dangerous-dogs-human-p
