Weve already come across a couple of examples wh...ere someone has been attempting to modify switchboards in homes affected by this weeks storms. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, both to the unqualified DIYers as well as to people living in homes with dodgied-up wiring. ANY electrical work, no matter how apparently minor, should only be performed by a licenced electrician. 15.01.2022 This is an incredibly tough time for the North, and were doing everything we can to support our communities. Right now, our job is to keep people safe and that...s what were doing at the direction of emergency services. Currently, 16,000 customers around Townsville are without power. Most of these have been de-energised because its critical for the safety of customers, emergency responders, and our own teams. Some customers have also been without power due to network impacts. Hermit Park substation was switched off before it flooded last night, and multiple pillars and transformers have been swamped. There was also damage from a car accident. If your street is without power but it doesnt appear that your area is flooded, its highly likely that your wider network has been inundated or is at risk. Wherever possible, crews are responding. This disaster has directly affected some of our own people and their families, flooding their homes and forcing them to evacuate: were all in this together. We will never risk the safety of our people or the community, and as soon as its safe for us to get to hard-hit areas or to re-energise, well be there.
