24.01.2022 Hi all, I am finally back on my feet again. It’s been an interesting journey that’s taken me through some turbulent days, days that have given me a greater sense of perspective. A deeper understanding of what it’s like to live day to day with anxiety and depression. We are all the sum of our experiences, lived and vicarious. I believe that my experiences of the past 5 years, have served to make me a better person, and in turn hopefully a better Counsellor. As I move forward back into clinical practice I shall carry the experiences and lessons learned during these past years and apply them when working with my future clients.

23.01.2022 This doesn’t surprise me, in my work with clients living with addiction, frustration is often an emotion felt by the clients, for a range of reasons. In many cases it aids the addiction, causing the cycle of addiction to feel like it has a stranglehold on them. Getting to the root of the frustration, along with the many other strong emotions they are dealing with, fighting or simply can’t annunciate, helps the client to loosen that stranglehold and work towards meaningful cha...nge for them. Whether that change is recovery or reducing their use, will depend on each client and what their goal is. There are no easy answers or quick fixes when it comes to working with a client living with substance abuse issues. It’s often a long and windy road, that often winds back on itself, and frustration is all too often an emotion that comes to the fore when working with clients. But how many of us in our own mental health journeys haven’t felt frustration at one time or another. It’s a healthy emotion that tells us something isn’t right. See more

08.01.2022 Unfortunately due to ongoing chronic health issues, I have to close State of Mind Counselling and Psychotherapy. I had such hopes and dreams wrapped up in this practice. Within weeks of starting the practice, I had a health episode which both Doctors and I myself had hoped would be resolved by an operation earlier last year. From this episode there have been more, leading to a hiatus which I’d hoped I would be able to return from at the beginning of the New Year, again unfort...unately this wasn’t to be. A recent stay in hospital and subsequent consultation with my specialist has put paid to that. As a result, with no end in sight and with much sadness, I am wrapping up social media accounts and the practice, before I’ve had the privilege to help any clients. It is my hope that in time my health will improve enough to allow me to work with clients. Until such time, I wish you all the very best in physical, mental and emotional health and hope and pray that it isn’t too long before I can reopen State of Mind. Until then take care and God Bless. 05.01.2022 We develop coping mechanisms and skills that help us through difficult situations and periods in our lives. But sometimes over time as we heal from those difficult times, those once helpful skills and mechanisms become maladaptive, in that we no longer need them nor do they really help us anymore. As we heal we find better healthier ways to cope with new challenges, finding we no longer need to rely on those old skills to get us through. #oldways #newways #maladaptivepatterns #healthierwaystocope
