14.01.2022 Finally some COVID19 stimulus relief for Sole Traders today, as well as further incentives for those businesses employing staff. The new 'JobKeeper' Payment wil...l see a Sole Trader (and presumably a Partnership - to be confirmed) receive $1,500 before tax per fortnight for 6 months, where the business turnover has decreased by more than 30% compared to the same time last year. For businesses who employ staff, they will receive $1,500 per employee per fortnight for each employee they keep on the books (even if they have no work to do). Again, this applies where turnover has decreased by 30%. Eligible employees will then receive a minimum of $1,500 before tax per fortnight, even if they were earning less than this prior to 1 March 2020. The big winners out of this are those who previously earned less than $1,500 before tax per fortnight. Even say a long-term casual (employed more than 12 months) earning $100 a week will have their fortnightly wage increased to $1,500 before tax per fortnight! Businesses who have stood down staff since 1 March 2020 are allowed to re-hire them and take advantage of the JobKeeper payment for those employees. Payments will commence in May, and be backdated to 1 March 2020. More detailed info to follow.
