12.01.2022 Landholders wanted! This work contributes to the Communities Helping Cockies project, which delivers targeted on-ground actions that are critical to the recovery efforts for the South-eastern Red-tailed Black Cockatoo. The work is funded by the National Landcare Program, Regional Lands Partnership fund and delivered by the Limestone Coast Landscape Board in partnership with Trees For Life (SA), BirdLife Australia and Zoos SA (Adelaide Zoo).

10.01.2022 Seasonable Herbaceous Wetlands Just add water! These are a very rare type of wetland in the South East that only fill with shallow water from rainfall in winter and spring. They are open, grassy, with little to no trees, and have a range of native herbs, rushes, grasses, sedges, shrubs and wildflowers. These wetlands dry out by the first month of summer and almost seem to disappear as the unique herbaceous plants die down. However the native plants and animals persist as se...eds, spores and eggs in the ground and will reappear with water. Many of these wetlands have disappeared permanently due to drainage throughout the landscape, but a number still persist. As many landholders would know, spring is a great time to start checking out those large puddles in your paddocks to see what may be growing, flowering, swimming or croaking! (So make sure to check them out soon!) #puddlesinpaddocks #wetlands #limestonecoast

02.01.2022 A new incursion of Mexican Feathergrass has been identified in the region! Thank you to the observant member of the public who noticed a weedy looking grass that appeared to be spreading and advised our local Landscape Officer this week. We had the suspicious looking grass positively identified yesterday by an expert in pest plants from the SA Herbarium and today have put in place urgent control measures. If left unchecked Mexican Feathergrass could spread in most of the... southern agricultural zone and represents a significant threat to grazing and biodiversity. Mexican Feathergrass is a weed that we aim to eradicate from the region and would like to prevent further incursions arriving. We encourage members of the public to be vigilant and report tussock grasses which appear to be spreading. Check out the SA Weed Control app or contact your local Landscape Officer for control advice. Contact details on our website: http://ow.ly/2nwc50Cjo8i

02.01.2022 Did you know that 44% of the area in this region used to be wetland habitat?! Wetlands receive water either from rainfall, surface water from a larger catchment and/or from groundwater. Around 80% of our wetlands are dependent on groundwater systems. There are many factors that have changed our landscape over time, including vegetation clearance, drainage, groundwater extraction, pest species, changed fire regimes, pollutants and climate change. ... Wetlands are vital for healthy communities and ecosystems, so it is important that we protect and restore this precious resource to ensure that our wetlands continue to thrive into the future. If you’d like to find out how you can protect wetlands on your property, visit our website or contact the Wetland Restoration Advisor on 8735 1177. #puddlesinpaddocks #lclandscapesa #wetlands #limestonecoast
