16.01.2022 After years of fundraising, the Limestone Coast has welcomed its new Transperineal Biopsy Machine. The community donated $138,000 and charity the Male Bag Fou...ndation allocated $60,000 to make this vision become a reality. The new machine means local men can undergo a safer and less invasive procedure for diagnosing prostate cancer, without having to travel to Adelaide. Limestone Coast Prostate Support Group chair Richard Harry says he's "so rapt" that the community has backed the project. "There's no government money in this machine, it's all community money, whether it be from local or whether it be through the Male Bag Foundation," he said. Well done to everyone who contributed to this fantastic achievement ABC South East SA

14.01.2022 After a discussion with the other Limestone Coast Mayors this morning, we want to absolutely stress the importance of being diligent with personal hygiene and ...social distancing. Should there be a positive test in our community, social distancing and high levels of personal hygiene will minimise the spread of the virus. We need to be EXTREMELY careful now as Victoria continues to have record numbers of cases and all Councils across the Limestone Coast are in close proximity to the border. It is absolutely imperative that if you feel unwell, STAY HOME AND CALL THE DOCTOR. We have done such a great job so far, it would be awful to have to go back into lock down. Living this close to the border, COMPLACENCY WILL EQUAL COVID. So let's keep up with the sanitiser everywhere we go (not difficult), keep your distance (also not difficult) and get to the doctor if youre feeling off colour. But alongside this advice, please remember that a Victorian number plate does NOT necessarily mean the driver is from Victoria. If you have concerns, your first port of call is SAPOL. The Robe Police number is 87 682 118 or 131444. Call me if there is anything you would like to discuss, on 0427357243. Mayor Alison Nunan

11.01.2022 COUNCILS RALLY TO SUPPORT FIRE RECOVERY EFFORTS Naracoorte Lucindale Council and Kingston District Council leaders have met this morning to coordinate their r...ecovery efforts for the Blackford-Avenue Range fire. Naracoorte Lucindale Council Mayor Erika Vickery OAM and Chief Executive Officer Trevor Smart met with Kingston District Council Mayor Kay Rasheed and Chief Executive Officer Nat Traeger to leverage Kingston’s experiences from last year’s Keilira bushfire and coordinate a locally-led recovery to yesterday’s devastating fire. The Councils are working together to understand the damage from the fire, which burnt across an area of approximately 17,000ha, with significant losses of stock, fencing and infrastructure. In a joint statement, Mayor Vickery and Mayor Rasheed said: As our communities start to count the cost, our thoughts go out to those affected by the devastating Blackford-Avenue Range fire. Mayor Rasheed said: We know first-hand the challenges that lie ahead through the long and arduous recovery efforts that continue with our Keilira community, and are committed to a joint recovery process. We will be in contact with impacted property owners through the recovery process, lending support and resources where possible, the Mayors said. A heartfelt thankyou to the CFS, the many volunteers and farmers who are on the frontline fighting the fires and to those who are rallying around the families and communities affected. The CFS will hold a community information meeting in the wake of the fires in the Lucindale Memorial Hall at 6pm tonight (12 January). Lucindale Community News and Events

Take shelter in a solid building. Do not leave or enter this area in a vehicle or on foot. It is too late to leave as the roads will not be safe. Conditions are dangerous and firefighters are now unable to prevent the fire spreading. Shelter before the fire arrives as heat can kill you well before the flames reach you. The BLACKFORD, MAIL BRIDGE ROAD fire is uncontrolled. This grass fire is burning in a Easterly towards Corbins Lane, Brooklyn Road and Woolumbool Road at Lucindale, Tresant Road, Marona Downs Road, Fairview Road and Stewarts Range Road at Stewarts Range. Conditions are continually changing. For updates listen to your local ABC radio station on a battery powered radio, visit the CFS website https://www.cfs.sa.gov.au or call the Bushfire Information Hotline 1800 362 361. Homes are not built to withstand these fire conditions, however they can be used as a shelter against heat from the fire. You may lose power, water, phone and data connections. Protect yourself from the fire's heat put on protective clothing. Tell family or friends of your plan. If you are driving and become stuck in your car, park away from bushes, cover yourself, get onto the floor as the windows may break from the intense heat. Identify a spot to shelter in, with more than one exit. Keep moving so you are away from the heat of the fire. Bring pets inside and restrain them. Move flammable materials such as doormats, wheelie bins and outdoor furniture away from your house. Close doors and windows to keep smoke out. If you have sprinklers, turn them on to wet the area. If the building catches fire, go to an area already burnt. Check around you for anything burning. Shapes on this map image indicate the Warning Area to which this message applies.
