22.01.2022 As we wrap things up on 2020, I'm sure we all feel a little more than just one year older. It has been a year of ups and downs that has shown some dark times, but also some pretty darn amazing times. LCN has said goodbye to some friends and welcomed many more. It has been heartwarming to watch our LCN family pull together with compassion and teamwork so that we have not only survived, but thrived. We end the year on a high note with exciting plans for the future. Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers whose dedication, passion and hard work not only keep LCN running as a native plant nursery, but as a community. As a celebration of our volunteers, here are some lovely messages that our team members have anonymously shared about one another.

22.01.2022 Our team of dedicated volunteers have been busy putting together all of the trays of mixed tube stock to give away to local schools and community groups. We've had an amazing response with several dozen applications and we have done our best to provide some plants to as many of you as possible with most having been picked up already. Thank you for all of your submissions. It was so heartwarming to read about the wonderful projects that aim to link our younger generation to nature. If you haven't received a response from me yet, please email me again at [email protected] - Jacquie (Nursery Manager)

21.01.2022 What better way to celebrate the first day of Kambarang, Wildflower season (the season of birth) than to discover a small bird has built a nest amongst our Mother Stock plants? http://www.bom.gov.au/iwk/nyoongar/kambarang.shtml

17.01.2022 Some of the local wildlife enjoying what the Leschenault Community Nursery has to offer. Can’t blame them, can you?

17.01.2022 Noolbengers are the sweetest thing! We're restoring the habitat of the tiny Honey Possum, or Noolbenger as they are known in some Noongar languages, by removi...ng stock, controlling feral rabbits and revegetating cleared land with proteaceous plant species, which is their preferred food. Right, now you’ve got the basics about the Honey Possum, onto the important stuff! DYK Honey Possums are the only truly nectivorous (nectar-eating) marsupial IN THE WORLD?! They can drink up to 7ml of the precious stuff per day. In perspective, that’s like us drinking 50 litres! The Honey Possum’s tail is prehensile meaning it can grasp branches which enables it to move nimbly through vegetation. Three cheers for the amazing Honey Possum! Photo by Katelyn Reynolds

14.01.2022 Welcome to Birak, the season of red, heat and fire. https://www.ecu.edu.au//cultur/nyoongar-six-seasons/birak.

14.01.2022 Traditionally Djeran is karla (fire) season, and fire is the most useful and precious resource to the Aboriginal people. Aboriginal people learnt over thousand...s of years how to use fire effectively and safely. What was the lore of the land, became the lore of the people - having the responsibility of keeping the balance of all living things and enabling people to live sustainably for thousands of years. The Wadandi people use fire as a land management tool, with the practice of controlled burning known as fire stick farming. What to learn more? Undalup Association Inc., together with SWCC, are holding 3 fire management workshops in Wadandi Boodja during fire season: 17 May Rosa Glen: https://bit.ly/3tfJSg6 22 May Busselton: https://bit.ly/3mGhvW5 29 May Donnybrook: https://bit.ly/3e1qIEz

10.01.2022 Happy NAIDOC week! LCN exists on Noongar boodja of the Wardandi people. We acknowledge Noongar people as the traditional custodians of this land and pay our respects to Noongar elders, past present and future. LCN grows plants native to the South West region, this means that, primarily, the plants we grow, nurture and sell to you are Noongar plants. Many (if not most) have cultural uses. We are even lucky enough to have a 'Bush Tucker' section in our nursery. LCN are de...eply grateful for the cultural knowledge that has been shared to us by Noongar Elders about these amazing plants. This enables us to share this knowledge on, and help keep cultural connections alive. Always was, always will be. #NAIDOC2020 See more
