25.01.2022 Every day too many Queenslanders along with their families and carers, experience the pain, the distress and the struggle of untreatable or terminal illness. Each month on average, at least seven Queenslanders suffering from a terminal, chronic or degenerative condition commits suicide. We want to provide these people with a choice to Die with Dignity. Dying with Dignity Queensland aims to relieve this suffering, trauma and harm through evidence-based legislative reform on En...d-of-Life Matters. Our objectives align with the recommendations of the 2020 Queensland Parliamentary Reports into Aged Care, end-of-life and palliative care and Voluntary Assisted Dying. These reports recorded over four hundred personal testimonies from Queenslanders who suffer from terminal, chronic or neurodegenerative conditions. Dying with Dignity Queensland supports the findings of the Voluntary Assisted Dying Report and the recommended legislative reform to have Voluntary Assisted Dying legalised and accessible to Queenslanders, with specific safeguards in place for patients and medical practitioners. 12.01.2022 A ticking time bomb Lanai Carter Legislation was gradually introduced across Australia to allow the use of medical cannabis from 2015 onwards. At the ti...me this legalisation was hailed as a breakthrough for patients. However, anyone who has been on the wrong side of this legislation knows all too well that it is not On the 11th November 2016, Our Mate, Lindsay Carter was the first patient in Australia to be dispensed schedule 9 botanical Medicinal Cannabis and yet Lindsay has now run out of cannabis oil Why? Because finding a cost effective, legal supply of oil which is suitable for his condition is challenging. As a result, Lindsay has taken a turn for the worse, with countless Tonic/Clonic seizures he has ended up in hospital several times in the last few weeks. Lindsay, like many patients in Australia is relying on Cannabis treatments to keep his condition stable. Our Government has said many times that they want Australia to be a Major Medicinal Cannabis supplier for Australia and the World, but they have consistently disregarded the real needs of Australian Patients. We need to prove the Science - Former NSW Premier Mike Baird 2015. Why is it that Medicinal Cannabis patients are having to wait years before Medical establishments are prepared to see the truth that so many already know? Dr Raphael Mechoulam from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel has been studying the medical uses of Cannabis for over 50 years and continues to do so today! Federal law changed 4 years ago. and we are only now seeing the first Australian produced Cannabis products starting to hit the market, access to Legal (often cost prohibitive) Cannabis medicine is starting to become more common but is still very hard to get. Why? Doctors are often willing until they see the ridiculous amount of paperwork that is required to get this medication to a patient. Should we disregard normal medical safety for the needs of patients? No. We need safe medication but let me remind you that not one person has died from the use of Cannabis. It is almost impossible to overdose on, it is safe when used responsibly as all medication should be. People who are sick want to be well, not high. This is something that is very often lost on the Government. Ben, who has been using Cannabis as a primary medical treatment for 5 years has never once been high on Cannabis, unlike the legal, prescribed medication that doctors had him on. 04.01.2022 I think its time for us to make some noise about the lack of response from the Govt about the recommendations made by the BARRIERS TO MEDICAL CANNBIS INQIRY in particular Recs 19 and 20. https://www.aph.gov.au///Medicinalcannabis/Report/section The Govt received these recs in March. They had a draft response which was shown to the AACMC (council attached to the ODC) in APRIL. Minutes reveal that ".. Council members considered and discussed the draft Australian Government ...response and indicated support of the content..." SO WHERE IS IT NOW? THIS GOVT REPSONSE?? TIME FOR YOU GUYS TO START ASKING QUESTIONS.. The COAG was required to address Recs 19 and 20. They had a name change now called the National Federation Reform Council (NFRC). Same people same website. The Health Council of COAG https://www.coaghealthcouncil.gov.au/ must still exist in some re branded name.. WHY has NOTHING been done? I think WE should ALL be writing to the people on that NFRC ie the Premiers of each state AND THE HEALTH MINISTERS IN EACH STATE DEMADING ANSWERS AND ACTION .. or just sit on our hands and let it slide into obscurity ...
