20.01.2022 Plantar Fasciitis What is it? The plantar fascia is a thick band of fibrous tissue which runs from the base of the heel and attaches onto the base of the toes. It plays an important role in normal foot biomechanics by providing support to the longitudinal medial arch (inside arch) and acts as a dynamic shock absorber during walking, running and jumping. ... Plantar Fasciitis is an overuse condition of the plantar fascia which involves excessive stress of the connective tissue. This results in a gradual onset of pain the plantar fascia. Pain primarily occurs through the heel but can also be felt through the arch of the foot. A lot of people say it feels like walking on broken glass. Ouch! Stage 1: Pain is often felt at the beginning of weight bearing movements and first thing in morning. The pain will often subside quickly as the tissue warms up. Stage 2: Pain will be more intense and felt after exercise. This will usually subside within 30 minutes Stage 3: Pain will become more intense and constant during exercise and weight bearing including walking. Causes: There are a number of causes and risk factors. These include: Low arches or flat feet High arches Reduced ankle mobility Poor footwear Increased BMI Tightness of surrounding musculature including: The Calf , hamstrings, gluteal muscles. Muscle imbalances Repetitive activities which put the plantar fascia under increased strain e.g. Running, dancing Please find below some stretches and trigger ball exercises and stayed tuned for more information on management of Plantar Fasciitis.

17.01.2022 Ankle Sprains Ankle sprains are one of the most common injuries during sports such as basketball, netball, volleyball and football, however they are often poorly managed. They result in damage to the ligaments in your foot. What are ligaments:... Ligaments are tough bands of connective tissue which run between two bones holding them together. Ligaments help to provide stability to the joint and prevent bones from separating. Sprained ligaments can take can take up to 4 to 6 weeks to heal depending on the severity of the sprain. Lateral ankle (outside of ankle) sprains are the most common ankle injury and result in damage to the calcaneofibular ligament (outside of your ankle) and anterior talofibular ligament (front of your ankle). Medial ankle (inside of ankle) sprains are much less common as the medial ligaments are significantly stronger and more stable than the lateral ligaments. How do they occur: Ligament sprains occur when a joint is forced into an end of range position which results in stretching and tearing (depending on severity) of the ligament fibres. Complete ruptures of the ligaments can also result in dislocation of the ankle joint. Sprains often occur while playing sport and result from sudden changes in direction on an uneven surfaces or if an athlete jumps and lands on another players foot.

03.01.2022 Dear wonderful clients and friends. Hope you are staying well and keeping safe during this unprecedented time. The team and I miss seeing you and hope you are doing ok. As an essential service provider currently we are still open. We also would like to do our part in assisting the community by taking the pressure off GPs and emergency departments for musculoskeletal injuries and hence minimise unnecessary exposure. Many of you are working from home with DIY work place setups ...or training at home with new gym equipment. Whilst you are doing the right thing, often these new changes can lead to workplace and gym injuries. If you have new injuries or old niggles now is the time to get on top of it. Please feel free to reach out, you can either come into our clinic or book a Telehealth Consult over video call so we can see and help you in the comfort of your own home. Stay strong and safe! Much love, Mimi and Le Physique Team See more

02.01.2022 Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine and is most commonly idiopathic (of unknown cause). Sometimes it can be caused by congenital or neuromuscular conditions such as cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy. This image shown in the second slide is a severe case of scoliosis which required surgical correction as the cob angle (angle of the curvature in the thoracic area was 57 degrees. The third slide shows an X-Ray post surgery where bilateral metallic Harrington rods a...nd fixation screws have been inserted from T5 to T11 to correct alignment. This scan is actually from our very own Personal trainer and receptionist Florence. For those of you who have met her would know that she is able to exercise regularly at a high level despite this surgery and only experience minor pain when sitting with poor posture for prolonged times.
