25.01.2022 A common question I get is if someone starts training their dog with treats will they always have to use treats. No, you don't have to always use treats but you will need to REWARD the behaviour to continue to REINFORCE the behaviour. Rewards can be many things like having the lead put on if your dog offers a sit to show they are ready to go. A reward can be a 10 second game of tug after a drop stay. Or a reward could be a rigorous pat after a recall. But, there is nothing w...rong with using food treats when it is appropriate to do so. Food is an easy, convenient and high value reward for your dog especially around distractions or when teaching something new. Many people think that if they stop offering food the dog will stop the behaviour and yes that can be true but that is more about HOW you are using the reward rather than the reward itself. A quick thanks also to Oreo who is one of my one-on-one dog training and behaviour clients for this super cute photo! See more

25.01.2022 Training should always start in the home first. I recommend to my clients that they practice loose lead walking training activities in their backyard and driveways first to make sure their dog understands the concept before adding in all the distractions found when out on a walk.
