25.01.2022 Senecio Rowleyanus - 'String of Pearls' Top pic is that of my plant, bought it from Bunnings about a month or so ago, hopefully not too long before it looks like that in the 2nd pic which is courtesy of Google :)

22.01.2022 Hey guys!! Leaf-o-teque will be at Campbellfield Markets this Saturday from 9am till 3pm! I got some pretty cool things for sale hehe

21.01.2022 I'm very impressed with the flowers on my Hardenbergia violacea & H. violacea 'White Out'. Sold together in a single 200mm pot by its common name; Hardenbergia 'Happy Wonderer'. It was tiny when I bought it (approx 60cm tall). ... It's now 3 years old and all I ever did was water it in after planting and then a week after that I gave it a bit of seasol & Pfeed. That's pretty much it! I haven't given it any special attention since... It survives (thrives) on the rainfall and full all day sun (neglect) and whilst I do prune it back after flowering come spring and again if it starts to stick out into the drive way; I can't recommend a better native climber/rambler to plant here in Melbourne (possibly aus-wide). Very confident of reaching the top and covering any 6m high support this indigenous member of the pea family fixes and stores it's own source of nitrogen in it's roots and soil which it will happily share with any thing else planted near-by. Not much scent but the bees love it!

16.01.2022 Bought a packet of 50 sunflower seeds in june for $3 I ended up with only putting 6 in the ground and this one was my biggest.. Check out how many seeds are in this one alone.. Now I'll let it all dry out and come this June/July (spring time) I'll start sowing these.. Sunflowers are now for ever and ever :)

16.01.2022 Happy Easter from me and all the babies here at Leaf-o-teque!

15.01.2022 AUTUMN is the best season of all for gardening.. Right now the soil is moist, soft and easily workable. Summer heat has past but the ground is still warm enough and the sun still shines thus providing the best time for planting anything into the ground! (with the exception of summer veggies of course). Transplanting to the ground in spring leads to much higher rates of failure once their first summer rolls in. This is simply due to the fact that they haven't been in the groun...d long enough to grow a strong root system to cope with the Aussie summers. So there you have it, what are you waiting for? Grab yourself some plants, get out in the garden and enjoy yourself!

13.01.2022 Thought id throw a hint/tip of mine out there to the group.. If you harvest rain water from run off, gutters etc and use any kind of open/lidless tank to store it all in (I use wheelie bins) then how about turning it all into a rain water liquid fertiliser. For free too! Simply dispose of all healthy and disease-free plant waste straight into your rain tanks and mix it well every few days and once it's been allowed to break down for a week or 2 (6 weeks for full decomp of a...ny weed seed is best) go ahead and dunk both your bucket and watering can in and just check its a light brown colour and not dark brown. It's too strong if it is and dilute it so it's like weak tea. I have 2 seperate run-off tanks set up and find that I've never had to dilute the water at all. I just use it straight on all my plants. Also, if you can reduce the size of whatever you add to ur water it will break down faster. I like to run over and catch it all with the lawn mower whenever I mow the lawns and that way I can get it all done at one time. I've since gone one better and banned myself using our council waste bin for everything except poisonous/diseased/pest infected plant matter that way it won't end up back in the garden (if that would be even possible I dunno but I errrr on the side of caution) This is the best way to compost if you don't do the 'hot pile' method (I think so anyways). It's light years faster and the routine saves you on tonnes manual labour, meanwhile still being capable of breaking down large amounts of waste that would otherwise have gone to landfill or straight on to the garden whilst still being highly littered with weed seed. I guess the only downfall is you miss out on the physical mulch layer that lawn clippings can provide but I've learnt that being lazy with pulled weeds is the worst thing a gardener can do as some weeds can have 100,000 seeds attached when you pull them out so the only way to stop the cycle is to dispose of them. So feed ur rain tanks weeds then feed them to your plants

13.01.2022 So as we all know so much rain has fell here in Melbourne this week - not complaining! you should see how much new growth this lot here put on in just one nite! Incredible! Ooh and all them boxes on the pathway have got some baby plants in them that I've grown here just especially for the rainforest theme garden

04.01.2022 Autumn is giving us some sunny weather, the garden is thriving in a perfect mix of rain and sun :)

04.01.2022 This is an epi-cactus i got almost 2 years ago now that i started from a cutting. It was a bonus one the seller gave me for free as id bought off him before. Only thing is that it came un-named with no plant ID so its been a 'mystery plant'' since the day i got it - all i knew was that it was a type of Epiphyllum cacti - but as it was just a bare stem i had no idea what colour flower it would have till it flowered for me. Today this mystery was solved when I woke up and found these massive white flowers I could see from space lol it's the only white flowering cactus I've got - white is a rare flower colour across the entire cactus species so safe to say it was worth the 2 year wait

03.01.2022 Been a busy boy of late! I've been trying to add around 50 new potted plants on the weekly. I'm also at TAFE now too completing my Cert 3 in Horticulture which will help me so that I can better help you... Tired some days but when you love what you do - it really doesnt matter the slightest Enjoy the tour..
