23.01.2022 Dear Community Member, As a patient, or parent of someone that has been looked after by a Nurse Practitioner, I would like to request your assistance. The Vic Government is looking at making changes to prescribing rules to allow Nurse Practitioners to prescribe more medicines according to their training and experience.... Please see the Anticipated outcomes (written by the Vic Government in the Consultation Paper available at https://engage.vic.gov.au/victorian-nurse-practitioner-pres ) below: Anticipated Outcomes The proposed legislative amendment anticipates it will achieve the following outcomes for Victorian healthcare: Improved access to medicines for patients, particularly in underserved areas of practice such as, but not limited to, rural environments, aged care, homelessness, primary care and women’s health Better use of medicines for the full variety of indications that might warrant their prescription Reduced duplication of service and fragmentation of care Increased compliance in treatment if patients can access care from the first health care professional they encounter NP prescribing is linked to improved education regarding medicines and health advice, including advocacy for non-pharmacological as well as pharmacological treatments. improved flexibility in NPs scope of practice and therefore their employability, forming part of a collaborative health care team in more vulnerable and isolated communities where to access timely health care might be limited. Improved quality of care through the provision of evidence-based prescribing for Australians. *****I would appreciate your time in going to the following website: https://engage.vic.gov.au/victorian-nurse-practitioner-pres There are only 3 questions to answer, which I have summarised below. The Vic Government wants to know: 1. Do you support this change ? Yes/No 2. Do you believe there may be unintended consequences (do you think anyone will be harmed by the change) Yes/No 3. Would any Victorian be disadvantaged by the change? Yes/No It is community members that they wish to hear from the most. Thank you for your time Leanne Boase NP

20.01.2022 When will the voices of nurses be heard and included? "IMAGINE... an industry in which a key group, constituting over half the workforce, is facing an enormous... workforce shortage within a decade. IMAGINE...an industry of key end users who possess critical evidence, expertise, and experience but who are excluded from planning and strategy discussions by policy makers at the institutional, regional, national, and international level. IMAGINE...an industry in which over half the workforce has the education and skill set to address the most perplexing programs in a way that benefits both the economy and the population. IMAGINE...too, that this well-educated and trusted workforce is prevented from working to the full scope of their education and license in a way that restricts and diminishes practice and innovation. This is the situation of nursing and midwifery in most countries around the world, whether those countries are resource rich or poor." 19.01.2022 ###Updated - unfortunately Medicare Telehealth and telephone consult criteria have now changed. Due to this, far fewer people are eligible for this under Medicare. We may need to ask more questions when you book a phone consult. Any phone consults completed already or already booked that do not meet the new criteria - you will not be billed for this. ### Under the new telephone consult arrangements released due to COVID 19, you are entitled to a bulk billed telephone consult... if either the health practitioner or the patient is at risk of COVID 19. Please call our office if you wish to convert your appointment to telephone. Please note, my current preference is to conduct new eczema and asthma assessments in person, where everyone is well, and conduct reviews by phone. Additionally, I can address your other health issues over the phone by appointment, should you need physical assessment, we can make arrangements from there. Of course if you fear you have had contact with someone with COVID 19 I can help with assessment and advice over the phone. Unfortunately my own health is at significant risk of COVID 19 due to multiple medical conditions. I ask for your understanding here, but I am determined to continue to offer primary care in the community for as long as I can. All phone consults are strictly bulk billed as per the Medicare guidelines. Please do not present to the clinic with any symptoms including fever, cough, vomiting, etc, please call ahead first. The clinic is not open every day, however phone consults may be available daily. Please ensure you leave a message on 73794261 or SMS your appointment request to 0480 170 661 Thank you Leanne

12.01.2022 ARE YOU USING A SPACER? With the current air quality conditions around Australia people with #asthma are relying on their reliever / puffer medication more hea...vily. It is very important that you use a #spacer with your puffer. Using a spacer allows more medicine to get into the airways where it is needed. A spacer is recommended for all ages, not just children. http://ow.ly/NCbi50xVJhR #AsthmaMedication

10.01.2022 Progress on Craigieburn Junction rooms. Expected opening November 2019. I will have limited availability prior, however once appointments open in Craigieburn there will be plenty available. Details will be posted when available.

09.01.2022 || SUPPORT PATIENT CHOICE || The Government has extended the Collaborative Arrangement for Nurse Practitioners, when this legislation was finally due to exp...ire on the 1st October 2020. However, on the evening of 29th September, ACNP President, Leanne Boase discovered by chance that an extension to the expiry had been applied for 2 years, meaning that Collaborative Arrangements will now continue until 2nd October 2022. Nurse Practitioners have been working under these restrictions for over 10 years. These restrictions discriminate against the most vulnerable of patients, restrict a Nurse Practitioners ability to practice, do not contribute to safety or quality of care, and perpetuate anti-competitive behaviour. Their expiry is overdue." said Leanne Boase, Australian College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) President. "It defies belief that the Government is seeking to continue to disadvantage patients and increase restrictions on health care workers at this time, during a crisis in Aged Care and the COVID-19 pandemic. Here we are, trying to help with the response, yet we are needing to divert attention and fight this yet again. This is not good enough for our patients." If you support patient choice, please get involved and go to: https://www.acnp.org.au/collaborative-arrangements
