25.01.2022 Lean Business Improvement Tip for This Week. There is a beautiful Japanese term known as Kaizen which can be translated as Kai meaning continuous & Zen meaning improvement. The Aim of Kaizen in Lean thinking is to continuously find incremental or small areas to improve what we do. This can apply equally to life in general as much as in your business/work activities.... Using kaizen we are continuously on the lookout for small ways to reduce waste or speed up the completion time of a task or process. In last weeks tip we covered non-value adding activities & how to define & identify them. Kaizen can be our continuous radar watching to alert us for non-value adding waste. Have a wonderful week.

16.01.2022 Lean Tip- To Save Time & Improve Efficiency & Effectiveness In Lean Methodology there is a tool for organising your work space to improve efficiency & reduce wasted time. The tool is called the 5S where each of the five letters S start a word toward improvement. This originated in Japan & the Japanese words now have an English equivalent the 5 S are:- Japanese English Equivalent ... Seiri Sort Seiton Set in Order Seiso Shine Seiketsu Standardise Shitsuke Sustain. Sort Examples Clear the workspace & leave only the item that are important & required to complete the work are kept, items not required are removed. Set in Order Examples Required items are in the proper place & can be easily accessed, this can help to avoid unnecessary bending, stretching & walking. Shine Means keeping both the workspace & required items clean & in good working order. Standardise Examples using the best tools for the job & having all the same tools for the same job. Sustain - the effort to keep the preceding four factors going The 5 S involves a move toward continuous improvement by all staff maintaining a clean & organised workspace. Using the 5 S will save time not having to locate the required tools among items that are not required & ensuring that the required item or tool is in good working order. Have a great TIDY & ORGANISED & Time Saved week!!

01.01.2022 Taking Control of Time. Always have too much to do & not enough time.want to get some time back? In business we are always doing one of three types of activity. These three types are called:-... Value Adding Ask yourself - does what I am about to do move the service or product closer to completion & if my customer saw me doing it would they want to pay for my activity? If the answer is yes then you are adding value, if the answer is no ask the next question- is what I am about to do required by law eg Safety Requirement, Legislated must dos? If the Answer is yes then you must do it. If the answer is no what you are doing would not be adding value & you most likely find your customer would not want to pay for your activity. These activities are called non-value adding or waste. In the coming week give yourself some time back by thinking before you act or react and do something & ask yourself the three questions above. Heres to an easier week!!
